L.A. Noire: Pushing The Limits Of Open-World Gaming

Until we see some actual gameplay footage, we can only picture L.A. Noire in our minds.

And based on recent information , we can continue to enhance and solidify that image in our minds. It's the best we can do for now, so that's why we keep searching for more descriptions and explanations. Hence, we turn to an upcoming exclusive article in the European PSM3 magazine for extra details. Remember how we thought we might see some elements from both Grand Theft Auto and Heavy Rain ? Well, this new feature mentions both those titles but also throws a couple more into the mix; they say it's a "clever mix between GTA, Heavy Rain , Mafia II and Broken Sword ." They're even talking about "opening a new genus in the world of gaming," which sounds both impressive and encouraging. Here's another promising quote:

"After becoming the king of open-world, Rockstar is launching a new genre. A world of laws and intrigues which pushes to its limits the boundaries of the game of inquiry."

Perhaps this is the reason Team Bondi has required so much time in preparing the game. It sounds incredibly ambitious but at the same time, uber-ambitious projects face fare more potential pitfalls than normal projects. There may be new control schemes to deal with and if the storyline falls short, the entire experience falls short. But the first chance we have to get a glimpse of L.A. Noire , we're gonna take it. It's just too interesting to ignore.

I lost a lot of excitement for this game after finding out it was multiplatform, the trouble they were facing with certain formats of storage (DVD), and looking at the first in game pictures.

Yeah agreed. They definitely could have gone further in development without settling to please everyone.

I too am skeptical that it could be very ambitious or ground breaking as a multiplat.

I don't see how they can push the limits of open-world gaming when this game is multiplatform.

Sounds interesting, but I'm holding my judgement until I see reviews and gameplay.

And it's such a shame that another game is cut-down because of multiplatform issues. Final Fantasy XIII, Lost Planet 2 (yes, it still exists on PS3), and now LA Noire.

I can't wait for Agent. As long as Rockstar keeps that PS3 exclusive, then we'll really see what Rockstar can do with no limits and no boundaries.

I don't think the story will fall short because if you guys loved Heavy rain story, which definitely had flaws, then I believe you guys will like Rockstar's creation because they make good stories, well the only good one I know is GTAIV, but you guys get the point.

Didn't Team Bondi already complain about space issues with a certain format?

Yuppers.

It's like bitching about the bread then explaining you're making an amazing PBJ sandwich.

"the game of inquiry?" Good lord. PSM3 sure knows how to hype a game we know practically nothing about.

Sounds like it might be story driven like Heavy Rain, but will feature some actual gameplay. Sounds nice.

I've never really been bothered by the whole "multi-plat" issue like so many here seem to be. Why kick these quality games to the curb? There's plenty of fun to be had with PS3 games that make their way onto the 360 as well. I would be upset if the PS3 didn't have them.

Yea they're only pushing the limits of the Xbox, not open world games.

Pass.

It seems multiplats aren't well liked here, kinda makes me wish they would do a kickass trailer for a AAA game but not put what platforms its coming out for till much later. It would show who's a gamer and who's a fanboy.

" Damn, this game looks really sick, can't wait to play it!"

~moments later, finds out its on more than his system of choice~

"This game wasn't high on my list anyways, looks like its being held back"

when you go from a game that was originally exclusive, then multiplat due to financial reasons, and then say that you have to cut back because of space problems due to a certain formal, it's kind of thrown out there that it IS being held back

i agree but where im my statement did i mention this? You know as well as i know that certain people here think if something is multiplatform, its automatically being held back, regardless of any info coming out to say so.

Now i do think some games are held back because of this but its not a blanket statement for all multiplatform games

But it IS being held back. 360 exclusives are better than multiplats and so are PS3 exclusives. Unless they are developing the game independently to each consoles strenghts its going to be held back in some form.

@ G8GTdriver:

So Ninja Blade is better than DMC4? Haze is better than CoD4? Too Human is better than Dragon Age? Riiight

I'm not saying games aren't held back in some cases, im saying that certain people are so quick to claim it without knowing what they are talking about

I still want this game, but Agent will probably do more in the open world realm. At least I think it's an open world game.

Well any open world game requires a lot of space, especially if the game is done in hd. The question I will wonder is, will they hold back the game due to storage or could they take the 360 version and split the map into sections?

Perhaps make it so that each section of the city is a different disc. This would be incredibly annoying for 360 owners, but if I were said owner I would rather have an absolutely amazing gaming experience and have to switch discs, than to have just another game.

This is my personal feeling of course and others might rather not buy the game than to switch discs. I would just rather devs not gimp their groundbreaking creations simply because a dvd has limited storage capacities in this day and age.

Team Bondi should probably make the Ps3 version on one BluRay and the Xbox version on two dics for the experience to really be as good as it sounds i dont think Xbots would have a problem with a 2 disc game…

Anyway i think that I would still get the game regardless even though, IMO exclusive titles are better to their respective platforms. But oh well….

Blame Sony for this going multiplatform. This was a Sony first-party game at one time before Sony decided it didn't want to fund it anymore.

I'm guessing because Sony was friendly with Team Bondi, a second-party developer whose leader designed The Getaway games, Sony let Team Bondi keep the code and intellectual rights.

We all know Sony's exclusive game list is great; but imagine how much more of a killer line-up it would be if it included this game and Eight Days and The Getaway 3, both of which Sony now says haven't been cancelled.
