Sony Prepping Fresh GT5 Demo?

It has been a good long while since Gran Turismo 5: Prologue dropped, and we have to wait at least until the fall before the full product hits store shelves.

Now, they have added more content – more sweet cars, for instance – to Prologue but for the most part, it's all old news. However, might we be looking at a brand new demo very soon? According to a NeoGAF poster known as "lherre," it seems we might have the pleasure of a brand new playable demo for GT5 at some point in the near future. Right now, the demo in question may only be set for upcoming events (like E3) and it certainly isn't available to the public, so don't bother checking the Store. We could always return to the Time Trial demo that arrived late last year but really, we kinda want a more detailed look at what to expect from the most anticipated racer of the generation. Sony boss Peter Dille has "guaranteed" that Polyphony's driving simulator will be in stores before 2010 is out but to keep everyone psyched, a new demo could be essential. Besides, we want to see all those improvements and enhancements we've been hearing about.

We'll let you know if there's any further info concerning a new GT5 demo. Perhaps they're preparing one for the summer to go along with E3; we're not sure. But we can always hope…

Probably a Nascar-based demo

Either way, the last demo proved to me that GT5 is going in the right direction. It looked and handled perfectly. So happy with the fixes they made to the physics.

Anyway, this demo will probably be E3 based. But hey we'll take it

This will be huge!!!

But hopefully it won't be so long that it has lost all hype. Very unfortunate when that happens to a game.

GT5 will never lose its hype, there are too many GT fanatics out there (me included).

Its truly makes no sense why a game should be in development for so long. I can't believe they said they could release GT5 whenever they wanted because they were done already because now they are really upsetting people who really want a good racer on the PS3. If I had a Xbox 360, I wouldn't be so anxious because I can play Forza 3, but Sony thinks it okay to make people wait for a game that should have been released. I don't believe all this late development polishing crap because they have had more than enough time for this. I don't no man, I probably just mad because I want to play this game already and they are taking forever to release it. Fall…WOW

The way I look at it, the longer a company takes on their product, the more they care how the end result will be. Just think, when it's finally out and ready for everyone to play, you'll be sitting there playing it and thinking 'How did they get so much detail?'. Then you remember, it took them forever and worked hard on it!

It actually makes perfect sense, if you've paid attention to anything Polyphony Digital or Kazunori Yamauchi have said about this engine. Having to throw away the 13 years of legacy code, car and track models, is a massive loss of data.

Each car, and remember, there's between 950-1000 (please, people, I don't care what your opinion is on lower end cars, and I don't care how many repeats you 'think' there are) each car, taking _1 month_ in man hours to create. Do the math. Ok?

As DoC put it so eloquently, the longer they take, the better it will be, and this says nothing…of the fact that PD has never given gamers a PoS when it comes to a full GT game. (And even Prologue really wasn't bad…I enjoyed it).

I agree it was poor judgement, on 'someone's' part to have Kaz state they could release the game at any time, I don't know if we'll ever know why he was made to backtrack, possibly to add in Motion, possibly to add in something else. Who knows?

But, the screen shots, trailers and press we've seen lately don't lie. The Time Trial showed vast improvements over Prologue, and I'm guessing that's a stripped down engine also. The final piece should be a thing of beauty, and I firmly believe it's going to be more than worth the wait.

I have Forza 3, and it did nothing but make me want GT5 even more.

Ya, but Forza 3 is crap and thats what the difference in development time equates too. A vastly superior game GT5 will be.

GT5 will never be a "step back" like Forza is, following one testers opinion.

who cares if it takes long, as long as they do it right ya know? Keep in mind that they are perfectionists and this is a "new" system they are working with… if that wasnt the case the gt just would not be gt. Im looking forward to GT5 🙂 looks like it will be ready straight after i finish FFXIII 🙂 and if not then I will just go outside.

I remember playing the old Demo for GT5 and wondered how people thought this game is even going to be groundbreaking. The cars looked really good, but making something look shiny is pretty easy, it seems. You can do that in Photoshop in a few minutes. Everything else looked pretty mediocre. I never got into Gran Trismo games because car games are just boring to me, they make no sense. You get to go around a track turning left until someone goes around more than the other goes before everyone else. But you know what, if every detail in this game pops out to me as completly realistic like everyone is expecting, I will buy this game. Hell, I'll buy it brand new even, and I wont even buy FFXIII brand new, and I love the FF series, just disappointing. The point of me saying this is that in my opinion, this game will fall short of the image implanted into my mind by all the fans that say how 'realistic' this game may end up. I remember in the demo the most unrealistic aspect of the game was the people in it. If they're trying to boast as the best graphics as everyone says, they need to make all of the graphics match up with everything else. If not, their cars are going to look spectacularly real while being surrounded by an atmosphere that just ruins the realistic image they're going for. I just hope that since they took all the time to make this game perfect, that they took note on EVERYTHING instead of just perfecting the cars, which is what every car game does anyway.

Not all races are nascar races. Not all the races are left turns, heck most likely not all the nascar races will even be all left turns.

What do you consider to be the best racing game (any generation)

I just wanna know what game you're comparing GT5 with, because your statements are extremely laughable

If it even starts with "Need" you better not even post

It looks like you have zero experience in the modeling/programming world. If you have no such experience, please don't talk about how things should and can be done in what PD and other developers do with their games in terms of visuals.

There is limits to the ps3, obviously. Sacrifices are to be made. You really think they should make the crowd as good looking as the characters in U2 or something? If the characters, trees, etc. looks as good as the cars, the overall graphics wouldn't be so pretty.

Well here's to hoping that this gets people off of Polyphony Digital's ass about that whole PS1 era tree incident with the contest they held a while back. I am referring to the contest where they had people race at the virtual representation of Indianapolis Motor Speedway (which BTW I want to race on so bad).

@Mornelithe

Man I never thought about it like that, I didn't realize or I just forgot they are starting from scratch with the new engine and all…stupid on my part. Well I hope the game turns out to be a masterpiece because after watching the trailers and the new one on GOWIII disc, I just can't bare waiting any longer for this to finally come out. It's looks to good too be true, and honestly, I want to take a test drive in the NASCAR for the demo. Many don't care for this feature, but I'm looking forward too it.

@Death of Chaos
Come on, its just a demo…of course its gonna look like crap in certain areas. Demos lie and never illustrate the true picture.

I'd love a new demo, it was obvious the last one was just to give us a taste of how the car would handle and not at all to determine the full extent of the game. I would like a demo with the finalized graphics and maybe a few different racing options.

I think that would not only be freakishly awesome but would help re-ignite the hype for all the complainers.

Always better to wait, than to rush, in my opinion.

I'm playing a racing game that I absolutely love right now. Considering all the time we've spent waiting for GT5 to be polished to such a high sheen that we'll actually have to wear welder's goggles just to remove the disk from the box, it better make EACH and EVERY aspect of the game I'm playing now look like absolute garbage in comparison. And I'm not just talking about pretty graphics and realistic physics – when I finish three laps of the Nurburgring, my arms better be tired, by nerves better be frayed, and I better be crackin' open a beer because the level of excitement over winning a race is just so far beyond anything I've experienced before.

That's all I've got to say on the subject.

What racing game are you playing right now…?

daus26
daus26

Well lets see. The only possible racing games worth mentioning are NFS Shift, FM3, Dirt 2, or maybe..umm..idk?

If it's one of those racing games, then surely you'd have a high chance of that happening Jack. The only game we can really compare with GT5 is FM3, and even that is "ok." If you're talking about a PC racing game, then that's a different story.

To put some perspective on this here. I _bought_ my 60g BC PS3, for the sole reason, that I HAD to have GT5. No other game, no other function, nothing, had any influence on this purchase.

Without the PS3, I won't be able to play GT5. It's that simple. So, yeah, I'm still waiting on GT5 =)

PS. I love that Avatar lol.

This is fake. It is the demo being used at shows and at Mercedes. It was last used by Sony at CES 2010 and there are several videos of this demo on YouTube. It has been loaded onto a PS3 setup for Spanish. Here to wishing for a release to the general public.

A Demo would be nice for the obvious reasons of further advertising GT5s impending greatness, but many fans like me won't mind NOT getting a demo, i think.
There's still plenty a way to hone your skills in GT5P 🙂
