Sega Seeking Sequels For Bayonetta, AvP, Alpha Protocol

Sequels have always been big business in the industry, and Sega is typically good at pumping 'em out.

And get ready for a few more now that they've introduced (or re-introduced, in the case of AvP) several new IPs this generation. According to CVG , Sega West president Mike Hayes said the company is very interested in making sequels for Bayonetta , Aliens vs. Predator and the upcoming Alpha Protocol . They also look down the road to games like Vanquish , which could very well become yet another series, provided the sales numbers are good enough to warrant a follow-up. Said Hayes:

"We want to get the core games right before anything else. We've got our shooter with AvP and our RPG with Alpha Protocol – we really want to make those into franchises. If you think about it, we can sequel-ise Bayonetta, AVP, Alpha Protocol and we can make a hit of something like Vanquish. Add that to Football Manager and Virtua Tennis – we actually have a broad portfolio."

We've already heard that Platinum Games plans to pursue another Bayonetta , although we did hear that it might be a spin-off instead of a sequel. Personally, I want a sequel – one that's actually worthwhile on the PS3 – because I still deem the Xbox 360 version the single most accomplished, insanely out-of-control (in a good way) action slashfest of the generation. I'm also interested to see how Vanquish turns out but if they want to make another AvP, they had better fix the controls and overhaul the visuals.  That would help immensely.

To be honest, I won't be buying any of them. And it ain't even because they're not exclusives. Just not interested in any of them, AT ALL…

I don't get SEGA, they seem to introduce the oddest new IPs ever these days…

Though, this is just me, wonder if many truly like stuff like Alpha Protocol and AvP?

i enjoyed AvP but dunno about any of the other stuff on there, but then again the only reason i got it was to play as an Alien, I mean come on, who doesn't want to be an alien!

I'm with scarecrow, just didn't pull me in. I don't have any interest in them either. In my opinion there are just too many other games that are better and are more deserving of my money.

Played Bayonetta. Loved it. Traded it, got over half my money back, and will get it again once its down to $30-$40 Australian.

AvP… I would rather wait for a hopefully improved sequel. Would've done well if God of War III and FF XIII hadn't released so close together.

I have a friend who finally caved into buying a PS3 with FF XIII, Fifa 10 and NFS Shift at Toys R Us for $590 Aus. Quite a steal here, and we have plenty of stock atm from lack of buyers over the last 2 months. Now the PS3's are flying out the door with FF XIII and GoW III.

Working at EB, no one seems to care about the FF XIII 360 bundle. Everyone is getting the PS3 version of FF XIII, cos of the whole 1080p thing. This really does make me smile. Consumers are not as stupid as we may think.

That's good to hear because in Aus and NZ it was very pro 360 for a while. Guess that's finally changing.

I mean with all due respect make QUALITY over quantity a priority, Fix the originals before you make a sequel otherwise you're building on a sh***y foundation. Why not make a console Valkyria Chronicles sequel?

Completely agree with the Valkyria Chronicles console sequel idea. But I remember reading somewhere that it hasn't been ruled out yet. Supposedly, as far as I know, the PSP version will be carried over to the PS3 at some point. We can only hope that the PSP version sells well so we can get another one in the future. The anime is great too.

Quality over quantity? They're not Sony. Your simply asking too much.

I guess I'm kind of spoiled with the excellent quality of exclusives from Sony, but Bioshock, Call of Duty, Dead Space, and Madden aren't exclusive and they are excellent quality give or take a few points on Madden, but these games aren't broken or rushed out the door, they are well deserving of their asking price, Sega games not so much I think.

AvP and Football Manager are the only games on that list I play. Football Manager is for the really hard core sim/sports fans though. Real high learning curve for those that have never tried it and/or know nothing about football/soccer.

Well if they make another AVP the alien and predator campaign had better be full fledged. And it would be nice if they included a face hugger and chest buster segement into the alien campaign

They just released a new map pack for the game so we can hope that face huggers, and bursters will be added at a later time as well.

They're looking to make sequels for 1) a game they gave us a lousy port of. 2) A game that isn't out yet. 3) A game that got pretty mediocre reviews and fan reception. 4) A game that's just starting development.

Okay. I guess we've all got our little goals in life.

bayonetta more of an accomplished action-fest than god of war 3? nah dont think so!

GOW3 was more action-adventure than just a hack'n slash. And for the action-adventurer genre, it takes the cake, mos def. My favorite hack'n slash still is NGS2. After platinuming those two, I'll finally get to Bayonetta.

I'd be happier if Sega focused on a PS3 sequel to Valkyria Chronicles. I know there is VC2 on PSP, but VC3 on PS3 please, that'd be grand. 😉

If SEGA ever releases Alpha then we could even consider thinking about a Sequel. It has been delayed almost as much as GT5.

Not interested in any of those either, I like Predators and Aliens stuff but I heard the game blew. Bayonetta was meh. Alpha Protocol just keeps getting pushed back, and we all know delays mean poor games. So far I don't see anything about Might Morphin Power Vanquish to pique my interest. Valkyria was very good, but that's all Sega has done.

You know, I think all the Bayonetta "meh" comments come from those of you who have been 'slighted' by the not so hot port. Tough cookies, the game still..

ROCKS

I can understand those that found it too complicated, too much going on…what a bunch of weenies. Anywho, its totally understandable if you just didnt dig the character, but any attempts to belittle this action masterpiece is just retarded.

Then again I have it for the 360….

BAYONETTA 2 BABAY!!!!

+1
The bad port IS why the game isn't popular on this site. I have to question how anyone could call this a 'Meh' after seeing all the things that goes on on-screen, after fighting bosses like fortitudo, and seeing how the game is capable of succeeding DMC. My guess is that they haven't tried anything other than the demo. Besides, the game's better now with the new install option. Even if the port isn't as good as the 360's its still a fantastic game.

You can look @ it like this, Bayonetta looks great, I even enjoyed the demo on my PS3 but the fact of the matter is, many people just have a PS3 and they want Bayonetta. There is no viable excuse to make an inferior port and get away with it. So yeah, people may think less of it because they have every right to. So actually, + nothing.

If Bayonetta was developed by another developer like Capcom, From Software, or Namco-Bandai, the inferior would've been unacceptable. But with Platnium games, there's two things people keep overlooking:

1) They're a relatively new company
2) Bayonetta was their first multiplatform title.

Not every new company is going to get everything right the first time or have all the resources to match other companies. Even if they have ex-Capcom employees, that doesn't guarantee anything about quality. That's probably why they passed the port off to Sega instead of working on it themselves. Now with Sega, they had the experience with PS3 porting Platinum didn't have so for them to mess up the port is their fault, not Platinum's. Platnium hopes to avoid that mistake by developing VanQuish for the PS3 first, but if that flops too, they really need to step it up.

So that + counts
