Sony Gunning For October Launch Of Gran Turismo 5?

Last week, Sony boss Peter Dille told everybody at the Game Developers Conference that Gran Turismo 5 would definitely release "before 2011."

Of course, we're going to want to narrow that estimate down a bit, which is why we're interested in the new possibility of an October launch. According to GTPlanet citing an Italian gaming site, a Sony representative went a little further than Dille at last week's conference, and said Sony expected to have GT5 out the door by October. Then there's the "fall" release window mentioned by SCEE executive James Armstrong in February, so October would fit into that estimate, right? Furthermore, with Sony planning to roll out their 3D-compatible line of Bravias (and other manufacturers set to do the same), this will give gamers a bit of time to prepare for GT5's 3D option. It'd be a pricey endeavor but if there's one game that might benefit greatly from the searing intensity and reality of 3D, it'd be Polyphony's driving simulator. Of course, without a wheel it would still feel a whole lot like a video game, so you're gonna have to go all out for the full and complete racing experience. Or, if you'd rather wait on the 3D revolution, that's fine, too. We doubt GT5 will disappoint anyone, even if they've got an old-school standard-definition TV.

We'll keep trying to find more evidence of a narrowed-down GT5 launch. Right now, it seems safe to assume that fall is the proper time frame, and if the aforementioned source is accurate, October is the month.

While waiting for GT5 should I get GT5P?

Depends
I'd say that if you want to be extra ready (skill wise) for GT5 then yeah, get GT5P

But it's only a very very very early TASTE (big demo) of GT5.

And I'd mostly recommend you getting it IF you have or plan to buy it with a wheel. The controller will give you a hard time in this Prologue of GT5. They fixed the newer GT5 demos so don't worry.

I spent a lot of time with GT5 Prologue. If you can pick it up cheap it is well worth it to get you into the mood for the full version.

It doesn't have the thrills and spills of Dirt2 or Grid and there is no damage or anything like that.

However, using a steering wheel it just feels "right". The controls are tight and everything is very responsive.

Dirt2 and Grid are more arcadey and in my opinion always feel too "floaty".

Depends though what floats your boat…

I use a DS3 controller with Gas/Brake mapped to the triggers and R3 being my shifter and it works very well to be honest. Im not the fastest but pretty quick and very consistent, i avoid going off at all costs, bear in mind im a verrry clean racer…unless you start bumping.

Also, GT5P or Full is best with a steering wheel. But the Guy that won the Tanner Foust Time Trial contest over a year ago, his name is Gar529 and he also uses a control "pad" but he will put a beating so fierce into sooo many other racers whether they use a wheel or not, it answers the question of whether a wheel makes you better. It doesn't. It just makes you smoother and a bit more precise on steering and pedal input.
PD did a hell of a job programming the controls for both wheels and controls.
Eitherway, you'll like it.

Yes you should.

Every car you unlock, and every credit you have saved is transferable to GT5 from prologue.

Makes unlocking cars in that game more exciting considering all the things you'll be able to do to them when GT5 arrives.

I am huge GT fan. Now while I would like the game, I am all for having PD make sure it's perfect FIRST before pleasing some unhappy fans.

Like you said, NFS Shift is good game. Have your father play that.
