The movie will probably do well, primarily because few will know it's based on a video game. At about the same time, gamers will likely be very interested in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands , because they know the franchise rarely lets them down.
But up until now, we haven't seen anything in the way of gameplay. We know it's coming in May, too, so to not have any footage at all was proving to be a little disconcerting. However, all that has ended as a lengthy video has debuted over at the game's official site , which boasts interviews with the game's creators and a boatload of very sweet gameplay footage. Essentially, this is a sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ; seven years passed between SoT and Warrior Within and The Forgotten Sands addresses those lost years. Therefore, it should make perfect sense to see the return of gameplay elements that were temporarily shelved for the most recent installment. Here, we still have the now-standard rewinding of time feature, but there's also a return to multi-foe combat. This really looks a lot like Sands of Time , only with a more advanced, complex fighting mechanic, and the addition of magic that can alter the state of the environment or a battle. As for the platforming, that's definitely vintage Prince.
While we certainly enjoyed the new-look PoP when it came out at the end of 2008, we still keep Sands of Time in a special place in our hearts. To see a true sequel like this is awfully appealing.

off topic but when are you guys reviewing FF13? interested to see what you guys think about it
It's a pretty awesome game. I'd give it a 9.5. 0.5 off cause of the boxart….seriously even the side of it has FINAL FANTASY XIII in plain old normal font and thats it. They didnt even bother using the logo font for the side (lol). The opening was epic. The combat got a little repetitive till you get to the paradigm and crystalium part, then its gets really fun. I agree what with ben on the twitch gaming part.
Whoever has the game, does anyone know how to use libra? I mean, all it does is mark the target. *spoiler* I know it gives you info on the target but where do you read it? Or what do you do once you cast it?
Haven't got it yet, and although the reviews are coming in quite favorably, Psextreme's review is just that critical for me making the final purchase.
im enjoying it myself, moreso than i thought i would.
libra reveals some info on the enemy while you are fighting, good for bosses, but other than that, havent used it that often
Snipey, press R1
We have a Twitter page, ya know. 😉
Fingers crossed on this one.
Looks good but I'll pass for now. If there's nothing to get later in the year then I'll look into it. These single-player-one-time-run-through games are not worth the money they ask on day one.
GOWIII?
I felt that way about both AC's, both of which I got new, regrettably. However, POP, to me, was definitely worth the price of entry, and enticing enough to get gyped in to paying for the DLC :/
So, although I'm not so keen on AC3, this new POP's got me psyched.

Oh, GOW3 will definitely be a worth at least a couple of playthroughs, no doubt.
@ WorldEnds – Good point, although I'm pretty sure no one will only go through GoWIII only once. PoP on the other hand was a one time affair. I don't see this one being any different.
Next week Ubi will announce how they cut out XX chapters from the story for whatever BS reason they feel like. The week after that they will announce new DLC!
Between ACII's crap with the missing chapters and DLC and their latest catastrophe with the pc games i dont even give a crap what Ubisoft does.
DLC is so bantha foodoo, but ubisoft still makes crazy-good games. The AC's pushed levels of immersion pretty close to MGS4's (Ok, maybe not that close), and the new Prince was my favorite from their arsenal this generation. I was kinda disappointed that he wasn't making a return this time, but after seeing the footage, I'm actually looking foward to this game, despite the movie tie-in.
I enjoyed ACII quite a bit (and got a platinum in it), but the way Ubi has been treating their customers recently is just deplorable and i will not support a company who behaves like that. There are plenty of other developers who deliver more content and less BS for the same $60.
I hear ya, the DLC is a rip. But, the real bummer for me was that the AC's were absorbing enough for the first play through, but too much of a drag thereafter. In other words, the story and immersion definitely captured my curiosity, but it didn't have enough fun-factor to get me to play it again. Even if the DLC was included, I'm sure I would've been left with the same impression. Maybe, my expectations would've been different if I hadn't played Infamous before it, considering how addictive and fun that game was. And, maybe I'm too much of an adrenaline-junkie.
If it plays anything like Sands of Time I'd have to get it. SoT was the best PoP game, I like it better than Warrior Within.
I played all 3 of the last trilogy but never owned any of them. Though they were fun. And seeing the gameplay on this, im really looking forward to this game.
Meh. Bargain bin maybe. Movie? Wait for a rental.
its nice to see developers going back and driving stories back from gaps in previous games.
id love to see more games doing this, instead of just spamming the sequel style.
like uncharted, killzone, R&C, sly cooper, syphon filter.
id love to see a back to the beginning game for all those series, explaining how the characters got to where they are now.
especially killzone, you spend 3 games blasting these guys like there the spawn of Satan.
your compelled to hate their guts but are never told why.
there the devil!
why?
because i said so solderer, now stop asking stupid questions and do your job!
Helghast 1: "Did you hear Colonel Radec executed two of our Soldiers this morning?"
Helghast 2: "For cowardice? Defeatism?"
Helghast 1: "…uniform violations. I sh*t you not."
I actually felt bad for them. Especially, the guys with the flamethrowers on the 2nd floor in the palace of the Radec fight, where I had to kill them like a million times and hear them cry in pain like very old men each time.

LMAFO!
i literally fell off the chair holding my sides from splitting when i heared that.
almost as good as the ones from uncharted 2.
"is that a ancient tebettan ritual dagger in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"
or chloe: "theres a hotel over there"
drake:" i dont think this is the time"
chloe:" it will be the highest spot."
drake:" oh, of course good thinking."
"admit it, your going to miss this a$$!"
in fact that is the best part about uncharted 2.
scrap the graphics, action scenes.
the best part about uncharted 2 is the humor, good to see naughty dog dont take themselves too seriously.
if you cant laugh at yourself your going to have a real boring life.
Really like it when dialogue like that is given to characters that are just part of the filling. No One Lives Forever was full of comical comments, it had me waiting before I sprang into action so I did not miss anything.
Wow this actually looks really good the manipulation of different elements seems pretty cool. I'll wait until I see a little more but having played the originals I will be getting this at some point. I really like that they have gone back to the older style of gameplay. Hopefully they will make it great. It could be a little too familiar though.
Ok, don't hate me, but I've never played any prince of persia game. When the last one was released I considered trying it, but there had been so many of them, I thought I'd be lost.
Is this a series worth starting from the beginning and playing them all?
What would Ben and Arnold suggest for someone who's never played a Prince of persia?
The first three are the ones you should play if you are worried about story. I have seen the three pack for about $20 for the pc at many stores so you could probably pick them up that way. You really don't need to worry about the one that came out for ps3 cause it wasn't part of this story and the gameplay was completely different.
Absolutely Sands of Time, although Two Thrones was also very good.
Once you've played one of those, I'd recommend the Prince of Persia for the PS3/360.
thanks a lot for the info.
Looking good . I'll definitely play it as it's a PoP game . Not sure if I'll buy it though .
Way to support a developer you play games from.
I didn't know renting games was illegal . I'd buy it if I have the money , otherwise I'd rent it . You have a problem with that ?

WTF…I was complimenting your support for Ubisoft. You're a meanie.
I'll pass on this game as well! Red Dead Redemption is next for me 🙂
Q!
"speak to the droid"
Tempted but since I was robbed of some trophies from the last one which has still left me with a bitter taste, this may not be a day 1 for me.
Maybe it's the oldschool gamer in me but I couldn't care less about trophies.
i am a little bored of prince of persia series, they should focus the talent on creating a new original game. both prince of persia and assassin's creed is getting boring ( i know AC2 is better than AC1), but please do something new ubisoft.

I'm actually quite psyched about the movie, I mean, it's from Jerry Bruckheimer, my expectations are high already.
I'm glad they went a bit more back to the roots with this one, cuz I didn't really enjoy PoP, I hope this will be a good game/film couple for once.
