The PlayStation 3 is an all-in-one entertainment device, which is why Sony continues to provide owners with more and more Network content.
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced the arrival of six new major motion picture studios for the PSN. 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will all contribute some of their high-definition films, which users will be able to rent or buy from the PSN in the US. The Network is the first to offer HD movies for purchase from all the major studios. Added SCEA senior vice president of marketing and the PSN, Peter Dille:
"Securing high definition content from these studios is another significant milestone further validating PlayStation Network as a complete entertainment network in the home. PlayStation Network is the first and only service to deliver high definition home entertainment from all six major studios, directly to consumers for download. PlayStation Network continues to offer the most comprehensive catalogue of HD movies to PlayStation Network members that realize the wide-ranging entertainment power of the PS3 system."
The list of added movies from each studio is as follows:
One would think I'd find a pic of the best movie in that lot, but instead, I decided to go with Megan Fox. So sue me.
Trust me, a pic of John Cusack in "2012" would've sent me running in the opposite direction!!!
Say Anything!
I would rent movies off of the store if they were not so damn expensive, thank god netflix supports the ps3 now because untill the psn can come up with a subscription based plan for movie rentals netflix will always be the better choice
Your tellin me!
yup. Netflix is the way to go atm
true netflix is cheaper, but the psn price is still average for ur local store rental.
of course thats why i don't rent.
I made the mistake of buying a movie that i couldn't keep. does anyone know if you can back up movies now?
I hope they put the "The Lion king" up,I can't find that movie anywhere.

Remember that The Lion King is part of Disney's Platinum Collection which means it is in a rotation to come out only for limited periods and then head back off the shelves and into "the vault". Amazon dot com has it for as low as 14.99 (used DVD) if you really want it.
Akunamatata!
I actually asked someone in a Disney store about that. Seems it's been vaulted (movies are "vaulted" for roughly 10 years at a time), and will be re-released in 2012 (or 2013).

I hardly ever rent movies off PSN as for the same reason as BTNwarrior above me stated..too bloody pricey…however, I am just constantly impressed with the momentum and new marketing strategy sony is developing. The past year and a half must have been outrageously busy for SCE. Every time I see articles like this on this site, I envision the suit and ties at a round table board meeting in some high rise deep in the center of tokyo working on graphs and pie charts of how they are going to win this console race based on their long standing tradition of "long term investing" in their consoles. I have to hand it to Sony, 180 degree turn around compared to launch and the year or two after launch, BRAVO.
I am glad they continually add more content but I agree with the others. Not only is the content too pricey but I don't agree with their DRM practices.
I learned my lesson when the video store content was first released. I purchased 5 TV show episodes and my PS3 crashed. Because of their DRM locking the content to that specific PS3, I lost all that content and to this day have yet to talk to someone at Sony that can get those back to me.
They can add all the content they want, I will not be one to purchase any of it. Good for them though.
The PSN keeps getting better.
Jennifer's Body: One of the worst movies of all time, but ol Toethumbs was pretty hot in it.

LOL
Someone hasn't seen White Boyz.
consider urself sued ben , who gave u the permission to be the pic of my GF???
BTW I'm NOT Lying .lol
and yeah District 9 Kicks ass.lol
Fail.
i meant "put the pic of". oppps
I wonder if this will lead to the new subscription service that they've been hinting about.
megan fox is sooooo skanky…nasty.
Which one are you:
1. Gay
2. Female
megan fox is indeed skanky, and i'm neither gay nor a female.
mutant thumbs :/
Yes, thumbs rank fairly low on the index of priorities for inducing sexual attraction. And if she was anybody's gf, I don't think he would ever require viagra. I think in the pic she's sexy, but I haven't seen any movies of her.
Club thumbs down to Megan Fox.
@Jawknee
Well, after seeing "Jennifer's Body", this is what I was thinking: 10 years later, Amanda Seyfried will probably be acting and working in serious movies, while Megan Fox will probably have moved down to exploitation movies and/or television (as her acting leaves a lot to be desired).
I won't be buying any movies from PSN. In the event your PS3 dies (like mine has twice already) you cannot redownload them without having to pay for the title again or jumping through hoops.
When I purchase in Bluray, at least they'll play on any PS3 or even Bluray player.
I hear "Get an external drive". That requires me to spend even more money. Also, I'll have to get something to back up -THAT- drive too.
No thanks, I much prefer seeing my bluray collection grow along with my PS3 games.
**Add to that** I hear "what if your house burns down". Thank god for insurance. I can prove that I owned the movies and electronics, but I cannot prove what is on the harddrive.
Aaaaaand there you have it. More than enough proof that digital downloads are a rip off. Publishers must be laughing their asses off whenever they make money with their digital download.
to that i say i do hope we as industry keep hard copies for at least my life time, i think download is great for some who can't/don't feel like getting form a real store or paying shipping, but the security is what i love most with discs, and the fact i can share my media with friends and even trade!
I'm glad to hear this, even if I don't buy many, or even any for that matter, I know some people will buy these movies.
That's good for the ps3 and what's good for the ps3 is good for me.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox is the best movie of those =D watched it the other day and I'd totally recommend it to anyone.
WHO THE HELL KEEP DOWNVOTING ME
I did.
Damn lemming mentality.
Here, I'll up-vote ya.
Maybe they're teetotalers.
🙁
lol soon as i saw u was upset about it i joined in!
when are they releasing it here?
they said late 09 during gamescom, than it was December, than January than early march and im still waiting!
sigh.
can sony release one thing on time worldwide?
im really starting to get sick of being treated like the gum under their shoe.
no wonder Americans think the world revolves around them.
because there treated like it.
no wonder M$ is kicking sonys a$$ here because at least they know how to treat their customers.
whats available in the US is available in europe is available here for the 360, M$ treat ALL their customers like valued customers.
why cant sony do the same?
LOL!!! thats all i'm going to say if you think M$ treats or thinks of their customers as valued….no im not going to argue or debate further with you, I'm just going to laugh.
at least they give us the content at the same time, and their games dont get a 20% markup for sale here like ps3 games do.
there special editions are actually special editions unlike ps3 exclusives, all the SE for ps3 exclusives are the same.
the game in a cardboard sleeve and a DLC costume or something.
360 LEs are something special like the halo 3 helmet, forza 3 key chain and stuff.
plus if your 360 breaks they give you a few months free gold membership as a apology and thank you.
my ps3 has broken on my 3 times in 3 years and what have i been given for that?
zip.
they wont even tell me what was wrong with it so i can try and make sure it does not happen again.
Yes great logic. America thinks the world revolves around it because Sony, a Japanese company decided to release the movie store here first. Did it ever occur to you that Hollyweird and most of these studios are based in America?
Awesome! I can't wait to — oh, yeah, that's right… I'm Canadian. Whoops. Guess I'll never get to take part in this.
Sony hates Canada.
evryone hates canada .lol jk
I really don't watch that much movies anyway,I would like to see PSN add more TV shows such as Scrubs,Star Trek TNG DS9,Voyager and CSI Miami, Etc
