More than a few developers have complained about the lack of space available on a DVD as compared to a Blu-Ray disc. And now, L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi appears to be running into a standard multiplatform conundrum.
According to Go Fanboy , Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera has been asked by Take-Two (the dev's parent company) to "calm the situation at Team Bondi over the size limitations." Compression for a typical HDD installation is a possible answer, of course, but we're hoping this need to "calm" things down doesn't delay the project further. The game is already in the midst of a lengthy development process and Take-Two previously hinted that one of their highly anticipated 2010 titles might not make it until 2011. Perhaps they were aware of this issue at Team Bondi… We're hoping that's not the case and the game will still make its estimated release date of September, but at this point, it's tough to predict. It's incredibly unlikely that L.A. Noire will return to being a PS3 exclusive; after all this dev time, they're going to need a very large return on their investment. Perhaps that new motion capture tech is causing the problems…?
Well, we have no idea. But at least Take-Two is on top of things and are making an executive decision of sorts by sending in some help. We'll keep you updated.

I would just like to see the developers say no for once to M$ and not accept their money. Cmon guys think of the greater good.
where'd all the Xbots go that have been hanging around recently? this is the perfect article for them 😛
They've gone to purchase ps3's so they can get God of War 3 next week and/or play FFXIII properly.
Why don't they just do to the 360 version what other developers tend to do with PS3 games?
Delay the release on 360 and release the PS3 game first.
Of course I'm sure MS has some sort of contract that requires them to release the game same day as PS3… Good Job MS. PS3 delayed 1 game, GTAIV. Your console has delayed how many so far?

Actually, if i'm not mistaken, FF13 was an Exclusive and got pushed way back when they decided to go multiplat. so that's two games MS delayed.
Can't say I'm surprised, I've always thought it was dumb that microsoft decided to use old technology in their supposed "next-gen" console.
The came out with Hd-dvd but didn't even use it as the standard drive for the 360, how lame was that.
Had they gone with the HD-DVD as their standard format, you can bet Sony probably would have lost the BRD/HD-DVD war….yet again, M$ fails to see the bigger picture.
@Darwin,
I think the race between BD and HD-DVD would have been closer had MS made it a standard drive for their console. I don't, however, think that it would have won in the end. There were just too many movie studios backing the BD format. There were also many more electronics companies backing BD rather than HD from the start.
Toshiba was the only company that was in the HD-DVD corner. I have to applaud them for making a stand against the likes of Pioneer, Sony and Samsung but it was just too much to overcome.
Actually it wasn't really a stand against, they signed a contract with M$ before blu-ray was released, claiming they would support Hd-dvd unless the majority of the major motion picture companies decided to go blu-ray.
After All the others signed blu-ray Toshiba enacted their clause and jumped to blu-ray as well.
HD-DVD wasn't actually ready when M$ launched the 360, just like HDMI. They would have had to delay the launch. If they were willing to do that, they would have built a system that actually worked, instead of rushing it to market to get a year's head start.
And PS3 would have outsold 360 2 to 1 by now. The head start and Achievements are why the 360 became the "default" system in many minds; without a head start, the 360 would be performing like the original Xbox.
And, yes, I know no one will read this, but I'm playing catch-up since my PS3 (and thus its browser) has been out-of-service for two weeks.

when did la noire become multiplatform???? wtf dude, the fact that they even switched ill tell u right now that this game will blow balls and be like every other "gta" wannabe
Well, LA Noire was gonna be a Day 1 for me but now I will play the wait and see game. Delays imply problems and things could get worse before they get better.
Sony took a gamble on Blu-Ray winning the format war and they won. Developers need to just face it and stop holding themselves back. It frustrates me to no end how some developers refuse to take advantage of the hardware on the PS3.
Sadly World, I have no choice but to agree with you. LA Noire was also a day 1 but once again, the limitations of standard DVD media hammers down my anticipation and puts my money back into my wallet for me. I'm still hopeful for this game but I'm waiting to see what Team Bondi's response to these limitations will be. Will it be the usual dim it all down response? Or will a developer finally take a stand against Microsoft…I mean mediocrity? Well, we'll see soon enough…
Well, this article has single handedly dipped my entire excitement for this game. I hope some PR person reads my comment and realises that this bullshit loses customer confidence in their product.
I really disliked GTAIV for many reasons, but 1 was i felt it was gimped for being on the 360 aswell as ps3. I'm not gonna go there again by choice. This should've been a brilliant noir exclusive.
Couldn't agree more sir.
Another reason how MS has caused our mult-plats to get cut down to fit the 360….
I read in another article somewhere else last year, that most developers, and even though it could be done, don't want to put their games on too many multiple discs(3 or above) because MS charges them a separate fee for each separate disc, thus also chopping away at any profit margins they may or may not have seen.
So in reality, MS wins either way….
if they buy their way into our game, and the developer says OK, but still keeps the game intact on the 360 using multiple DVD's, then MS will snatch a huge part of their "exclusive shush fund money" right back from that same developer.
It's just one vicious cycle after another with MS
In your opinion, what are some of those "What If" games?
(and by "What If" I mean what if MS hadn't thrown their two cent in)
I'll set the tone by naming Metal Gear Rising.
HMMMM, not sure if I could actually tell you
Since I wait to buy my games used at either a $20 USED price point(or Buy 2, Get 1 free deal), so I don't have any brand new current games to judge it myself, so I'd want to disqualify myself from actually trying to prove just which "what if" games, they were, just from my own lack of experience playing time with them.
Anyways, I'm not sure, but I'd tend to think from all that I've heard & read so far, that FFXXIII, AC2, RE5 probably are a few of those games(FYI I've only got RE5, but on the 360), that could've been made better along without MS interference, along with any other PS3 game that get paid by MS, & then chops up their game to fit MS.
But I'm quite sure those who have felt the chopped up effect on their own games, would be a better source of actual "what-if" games.
BTW, I don't have, MG Rising, or MG Peacewalker yet either, but MG Rising wouldn't count as one in my book, because they made that a separate game, and not a chopped down part of MG Peacewalker, am I right?
I'll counter by saying, imo, had MS not gotten that, it would be a lot more truer to the rest and maybe still stealth based. So many lost possibilities with that which is why i call it a "What If" title.
why not just release it on multiple disks like $E, ID and many other developers are doing?
guys, theres no point bitching about it till your face goes blue M$ aint going to do anything about it.
face it if you want to make a game for the 360 your stuck with DVD like it or not.
on the other hand i really do not care anymore.
all 2K games can go to hell and never return for all i care.
im sick of them coming out teasing me than announcing the games been delayed.
i almost fainted when i saw the video of mafia 2 last E3 and now we may not get it till later this year if that.
fine, when or should i say if there games come out, then ill get excited.
till then i do not care!
You gotta pay more to have extra disc. That can cost millions. Blu-ray can't be use for Xbox 360 games.
@main_event05,
Oh LOL, I wasn't thinking of it in that same context as you were.
But YEAH now I see what you mean, and great point there!
And I do believe you're right about it too.
The worst part about all this for us PS3 owners is that with all thees games being chopped, we'll never even know how many shady companies have really done it, or how many are still going to do it too.
Unless either some multi-plat developer/publisher suddenly says that they had to cut content(for one reason, or another) or that a gaming site starts snooping around because of rumors & decides to do a 360/PS3 comparison on it's own to confirm it.
So I'm wondering how many more company's that we don't even know about yet, have already screwed us by doing a lot of cut content, and then keeping it all on the down-low?????

thats not true it was cleared up a while ago in a interview that M$ does not charge royalties for each disk.
What people don't understand is Sony doesn't own the Blu-ray Disc the Blu-ray Disc Association does, which Sony is also part of. Microsoft develop some technology in Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD.
There's no way Microsoft can support Blu-ray Disc as the new standard for games. Unless they give out 38 million free Xbox 360 consoles with a Blu-ray Disc Drive on them.
Microsoft is going to start losing some games soon due to the capacity in DVD9 just a little above 8GB and developers cannot use the whole 8GB which makes it more difficult for game developers. Sony to a risk a well it pay off big time. Microsoft needed to use HD-DVD for games at least and they wouldn't had this problem right now.
My PSN ID: Ivan-
Actually Sony and Pioneer developed the technology that became know as blu-ray and then founded the association with several other companies.
Microsoft is was not and is not a part of the blu-ray association.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_Association
Well said Ivan, I couldn't agree more!
Even though they claim to have sold 38 million or so 360s, there can't be many more than about 32 million of them still alive, and no more than 30-31 million capable of going online (remember MS has perma-banned 1+ million 360s over the years)…So they'd really only have to come up with perhaps 30 million BD-ROM drives for the 360, and at $100 a pop that's a mere $3 billion, or less than they lost on the original Xbox, and – I believe – less than they've already spent on the money pit known as the Xbox 360.

Ivan I forgot, what did you give GOW3?
This is why I don't even bother with the overwhelming majority of multiplatform games. Most of the time, they're straight up inferior to exclusives.
Well it looks like MS is going to mess up another game and it was starting to look really good too.
