PS3 Version Of FFXIII Dominates Pre-Order Stats

Just about every source that has conducted a compare-and-contrast between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Final Fantasy XIII has said the same thing: get the PS3 version.

Certainly, it remains true that when a franchise has been exclusive to one of the two aforementioned platforms for nearly 14 years, the vast majority of its fans have continued on with that platform. But with everyone saying the PS3 version is slightly better, that might also have had its impact on the pre-order numbers: as noted by VGChartz , FFXIII has hit the pre-order chart and the PS3 version resides in the #3 position with 338,765 reserves. The Xbox 360 version? It's in at #5 but with only 135,000 pre-orders taken. These numbers mean that approximately 70% of all pre-orders have been for the PS3 version. The bottom line is that if you own both consoles, there's really no reason at all to purchase FFXIII for the 360 and it seems that most of the long-time fans have recognized that fact. At the same time, the reserve crowd certainly includes the hardcore; the casual gamers who have yet to even try a Final Fantasy (maybe because they've only had an Xbox in the past) have yet to make a decision. And with over 38 million 360s out there, the sales numbers could end up being just dandy for Microsoft.

But I think we all knew what the proper platform was for this game; it was initially designed with the White Engine and the PS3 in mind and if there's one game that screams for Blu-Ray, it's right here. By the way, God of War III topped the pre-order chart with a massive 425,497 total reserves, which is pretty damn impressive for a PS3 exclusive. Remember, any exclusive is only catering to about half of the total potential audience multiplats can reach.  It's just math.

Ooh, nice. I installed a 320 gig some time ago. Feels nice to not worry about space. I reserved 10gigs for Home for no good reason, just because I could! 🙂

I'll stay posted for some feedback on FF13 from you guys who are picking it up tomorrow. I haven't completely given up on it yet. Although I'm not particularly excited or anything…but I just want some honest and reliable feedback about the game. Thanks

Logic: If we are talking about the same people who gave WKC between a 4 and a 6 (and we are) then a 7-8 for FFXIII has got to equal about a 9-10 in real-people-land. 🙂

I was uneasy about a pre-order for FFXIII, but after reading a little more about it with all prejudice aside, I feel I will like it.

I picked up my US copy last Friday (got to love those mom & pop stores). Still don't be too sad about the lack of a LE Highlander the American Standard Ed is more special then the Euro LE is (no sadly Im not joking). The LE for FFXIII in Europe comes with a standard cover. The logo cover is only a cardboard slip cover and is bigger then the Blu-ray box (from what I seen online. Also the Euro LE has no inside cover art and the art book is not so special. The American standard Ed (for PS3 anyway) comes printed on holofoil high quality paper with inside cover art and a color manual just like the first pressing of the JP release (Sorry Canada no shiny cover for you).

and this is with microsoft's exclusive advertisement campaign…this game should have only been for ps3. the fact they had to cut out so much to accomodate the 360 version is evidence of that. and as a result i'll be buying heavy rain instead…and i'm a longtime FF fan =(

Your really missing out on a great game and if your a Final Fantasy fan (like me) you should just get it. From what I have seen this game is still exclusive. On the 360 Square did a very sloppy port. They did absolutely no engine optimization and haphazardly compressed the hell out of the cut scenes. There was no love for the 360 version from what I have seen. Its like they did not even try or cared about the results. They simply made it because they wanted the free MS money.

Wonder where is Aaron Greenberg now, I remember…..ABSOLUTELY REMEMBER that I once read in an article of him saying the 360 version will DEFINITELY outsell the PS3 version.

Ok…..now I'm gonna listen to Aerosmith~~

On Amazon, FF XIII (PS3) is ranked number one in sales. The Xbox version is #5. God of War III is #3 now after it was #2.

I gripe about Square Enix alot (because I know they can do better and this has nothing to do with Final Fantasy)…But all the complaining aside I know I'll play Final Fantasy XIII (I've played every Final Fantasy proper) and I'll reserve judgment until I do. I rarely take critics seriously as reviews are arbitrary and one cannot say whether something is good/bad unless they have played it.

All these sales numbers just prove that SE should have said "Screw you M$, none of your twitchies will buy our game, go back to your shooters and leave us alone."

Instead they thanked them for the giant paycheck and lowered their sales of the ps3 version, alienated at least some of their fans, and screwed over everybody in the end.

Look how poor the 360 version is, it got a bad port, and we ps3 owners didn't get our towns. Hoping its still a lot of fun tho.

I don't think there's any bad port here, I looked at the comparison and there's hardly any difference.

It's not really a port and the differences aren't huge.

But if you want the best, the PS3 version is it.

Since the PS3 is the lead platform on this one, it's a no brainer getting the PS3 version.

I thought the difference in side by sides was rather drastic.

The differences are pretty bad. I bet it sounds terrible too.

Re the difference.

The PS3 version runs at full 720p resolution 1280×720. The 360 version runs at a sub par 1024×576 (576p). In practice this isn't as visible as a comparison with 480p vs 720p. In terms of resolution the 360 version runs at about 60% of the resolution of the PS3 version. However there are two valid reasons for this. First of all, this resolution is perfect for the free anti-aliasing that the 360 hardware offers. Secondly PAL TVs in Europe run 576p so it fits perfectly for that and happens to match the resolution that the cut scenes are stored in on the DVD. So for the 360 platform, 576p is a very, very convenient resolution to use and visually doesn't suffer too much in comparison to 720p. You'll notice it if you look, but it will still look a lot better than games running at 480p.

What's worse than the in-game rendering is that the PS3 cut scenes are played back in full 1080p, but the 360 cut scenes are 576p which is the maximum DVD can handle (European progressive scan is 576p). So the cut scenes on the 360 are very appreciably lower in quality.

The sound isn't a huge issue as the difference between compressed audio and uncompressed audio are difficult for a casual listener to hear anyway, and on a standard home TV set up, it's even more unlikely you'd hear the difference.

Ok, ok, so was went on a slightly exaggerated outburst, it was only due to my slight depression over the whole situation.

I'm really just saying that, xbox owners didn't ante up with the pre-orders like they should have. For what it means for this game to be multiplat, there should have been a surge of 360 pre-orders.

If "Gears" or "Halo" were in the title somewhere you can bet they would. But I don't think it's a real big surprise. It's still sad though. Especially for one of the main icon franchises in video gaming

Hey Highlander, I went & watched all those comparison videos, but couldn't see any differences at all.

I'm guessing that's due to me still using a SD TV, so that's why, right???
