We promise to bring you the news, no matter how painful it may be.
And the reason this is news is simply because it involves a significant reversal. To our knowledge, Square-Enix has never approached the fans with the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII remake; they've only played defense for the past decade whenever they were asked about it. But apparently, they wanted to gauge the reactions of gamers who may or may not be interested in such a project, as they mentioned it at Square-Enix's Japanese Twitter page (it's all in Japanese, so we won't bother to link). The point is that as soon as they asked, the page got blasted with a gazillion "hell YES, you should do it!" replies. It got so overwhelming, in fact, that S-E had to post a follow-up Tweet asking the fans to stop posting. Bear in mind that it only includes the Japanese audience; can you imagine if it had included North American and European gamers, too? Perhaps the most bizarre part about this is that S-E – depending on how you interpret the news – actually seemed surprised at this response. …as if fielding the same old question for like eight or nine years wasn't a big enough sign.
So now that FFXIII is done and out the door and they've turned to focus their attention on Final Fantasy Versus XIII , might Square-Enix finally allocate the necessary resources? Have they finally opened their eyes and said, "um…people kinda want this, huh?"
Wada does not have half a brain.
i think wada was one of those guys who got one too many "swirlies" in high school until his own head actually got convinced it belonged in a toilet
Poor Wada, well serves him right
Wada has a full brain, its putting 100GB worth of towns and characters on 10 DVDs his main gripe, as MS have a gun at his head, and anything he does is supposed to be multiplat, they only let him make versusXIII exclusive cause he cried his eyes out like "Waaa waaaa waaa Dada Sony will spank me!"
I thought they already thought about a remake and would take them like 10 years or some outrageous number like that.
Remake Xenogears, while you're at it! And why not? The original Xenogears came out the same year as the original FFVII! I've played through both games entirely every 2 years since they were released! lol
It might get just plain nasty if SE asked North America that same question.
If they asked us to preorder it before it was developed we would probably do that too!
I know I would…
i would
Times like these make me think SE is really losing their sanity. They make what is the most controversial FF to date (and not for good reasons) then they act surprised when they find out fans want them to remake the best FF they have ever made.
Is Square in tune with their fans at all any more?
No. This is clear evidence that they haven't a clue what their fans are thinking. Asking fans if they want a FFVII remake is like asking the Sun if it will rise tomorrow.
I think we'd have more problems if Square was out asking the sun questions… 😉
I really am inclined to say… NO.
best FF is all opinion 😉 i think FF6 will always be the top FF
I'm gonna say FF4 was the best final fantasy IMO.
How 'bout they focus their eyes on Final Fantasy XV?
Moving forward instead of backwards?
FFVII is good as it is
Now, how many times have you said that? I'll give you $500 if SE reads one of your comments and goes "Shit, son! Scarecrow has a point there."
=P
Moving forward has apparently been a bad idea so ya know…
id say FFVI & Chrono trigger (on SNES) is as good as it gets with VII close behind but thats just my opinion. older FF fans may agree with me on that.
You'd be surprise
There is a healthy amount of FF fans who don't want a FFVII remake
Sure we'd take it, but is it necessary?
Moving forward with FFXV as a ps3 exclusive makes more sense.

move fowards its okay if you take the good road, in this case SE isn't taking that one .
I can't wait to play FFVII remake.
Shit, son! Scarecrow has a point there.
@scarecrow, don't you want to relive the glory days even if its just 1 game?

Douchebagette: Seems as if your premonition came true, so say goodbye to $500 😛
They shouldn't focus on XV, they should focus on Versus XIII, just sayin'
Reliving the glory days would mean a VI remake 😉
Why not do both?
I have to interject here but I am almost certain that the day after they said FFIV was going to be an exclusive MMO they recanted that, in a surprise move at E# they revealed that FFXIII was no longer an exclusive, and I am not going to be the least bit surprised if they announce that FFvXIII is going to be multiplat as well. I will be pissed but no not surprised.
Point being that I don't really think we will see another FF that is exclusive to the PS3 even a FFVII remake I think would go exclusive if it could and that's the reason they won't make one.
If there is another exclusive FF game it will be FFvXIII and that will most likely be the last one. Sorry folks but you just have to look at the trends and infer for yourself really.
And here we go again…Square dropped the ball with XIII so now they are looking for a way to redeem themselves with their old fans. Why do I get the feeling if this does actually happen, it will be titled "Final Fantasy VII: The Duke Nukem forever Chronicles"?
I think it's silly that they are surprised by this but at least they asked the fans. I hope this is the start of a new philosophy for SE.
They just keep steering the pot. They already know what we want. I'm sure there next question will be.
"How much are you willing to pay, to remake the game you love?"
I've been playing Heavy Rain to much.
OMG!…Haha sooo glad our Japanese friends feel the same way we do! Maybe SOMETHING will be done…but the fact that they were surprised is really disturbing- and totally expected…
But, won't it take 10-12 years?
::innocent stare::
If fans have asked for 9 or 10 years and it takes 1 to 3 years to do…….. well you see where my stupid joke is going.
damn, that's what I gonna day
they are lining it up for the 20th anniversary of the game
LOL
Damn Jed .. …. you been drinking?
No, as much as I would like to attribute that to alcohol, I have not.
EDIT: Awesome, I misspelled another word. I think this is a sign to start drinking.
Good night everybody

Took me a while to catch your comment Jed but it's priceless. Hope you enjoyed the drinking 🙂
I certainly did.
*Performs the ultimate facepalm*
Well DUH of course people want it, it's all any RPG fan ever wants. That is a massive reversal, and it solidifies the conspiracy theories that they are keeping this one up their sleeve in order to save their asses in case they finally alienate everyone in the world. Make the game, stop being stupid about it.
Real time combat for the win!
::flees::
That's the only thing that worries me, They might make it for "twitch" gamers….which means it will be FF6.2

If they do the remake and they fu** with the combat system in ANY way………I will not be held responsible for my actions.
@Ben
Heck yeah, they remake it and remove my turn based gameplay I'll meet you in japan to kick some teeth in.
"We're making the remake! but we're removing the archaic materia system and putting in fan favorite gambits!" and then all around the world, servers exploded with RPG-fan rage, and the internet was no more…

@ Ben . I am with u there. We aren't asking for a new game all togehter we are asking for a remake. Personally I don't want them to change the battle mechanic whats so ever. Improve the quality of graphic? Fine. Quality of music? Fine. Just don't change the music entirely.
god, i swear Square enix are a bunch of rejects.
just make the damn remake while ppl stil care.
cuz most of the younger kids, (who they are trying oh so desperatly to win over, you know, the casual audience; that dont even play videogames and buy Wii's to work out and pretend to throw sh** at a screen), already hate final fantasy
i mean seriously, its only the hardcore that care about a FF7 remake.
try get a young kid to play FF7, its damn near impossible
if they make the battle system somewhat similar to X-2, it may be awesome.
No, i havent been drinking either, im being serious. Of course it wouldn't have the dresssphere grid thing but what i mean is how the ATB filled up and you made an attack, if others made an attack right afterwards, it would chain together, having both attackers hit at the same time.
I thought that was awesome when they implemented that in X-2. that game caught a lot of flak and rightfully so imo, but the battle system was one of the better ones on a FF game, give or take a few things
But i dont think they should do a remake, maybe a damn good sequel but not a remake

X-2 ATB was tits, no pun intended. Drink on.
