We all make mistakes. The key is to recognize the error of our ways and repent.
As most of you know, Platinum Games' new project is Vanquish , a slick-looking futuristic shooter that could become a huge sleeper hit. However, PlayStation 3 owners recognize Platinum for Bayonetta , which unfortunately didn't fare well on Sony's machine after being ported over from the Xbox 360 by Sega. Therefore, when they announced this new game, PS3 fans were instantly skeptical. Well, there's no need for skepticism because according to 1Up , the PS3 is actually the lead platform for Vanquish . When Sega and Platinum showed off their shooter at a press event in Tokyo last week, everyone saw that the game was running on Sony's console. Said game director Shinji Mikami:
"We're leading development on PS3. Obviously each console has its own unique requirements and limitations, but we feel if we can create a good enough presentation on PS3, we'll be off to a good start."
Mikami added that development actually began on the PC, but quickly shifted to the PS3. They may not even release a PC version of the game at this point; Mikami said that "any sort of possible PC version is undecided at this point," and they're currently focusing on the PS3 and 360. Obviously, we don't have to worry about another lacking port; the team has decided they won't shortchange PS3 owners again and they clearly want to take advantage of the PS3's hardware. Great news, no?

PSX DOES read our emails! YAY!
Mikami is a genius. I'm going to keep an open mind about this title.

Lol @ Jawk.
With regards to whether or not Bayonetta "fared well" on the PS3, it depends on what you mean. Obviously it is a port so it didn't fare well graphically, but from a sales perspective the game had a larger opening for PS3 because of the Japanese release! PS3 owners enjoy the hell out of action games: confirmed!
OK, thank you Platnuim Games!
I now recant my prior "Gimped up copy" rant.
All is now well in Bikertown.
What did 'Demon Dog' do to get thrown in the doghouse?
Now that it's confirmed, I suppose there's no reason for me to be skeptical anymore as well.
Now all that's left is the gameplay footage.
rogers71,
DD's still there,
He's been dianosed with multiple personality disorder.
So now he's on this new kick to show off all the many "alters" he's found within.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Hate Platinum but you gotta at least respect Shinji.
^What he said.
Wow, I have a newfound respect for Platinum Games now. Wish more developers ( Blur developers, I`m staring you down hard), would take a cue from these dudes.
This is excellent news for everyone. When the PS3 is the lead platform, the subsequent 360 version (nor a port) is always a quality product. There are not really any instances where a game that led on the PS3 resulted in a truly inferior 360 port. This is good news for everyone.
Highlander,
I hate to say it, but that's why I sometimes wish the 360 somehow, had been able to go with Bluray too.
If for no other reason, I'm thinking that had that happened, then any games that were still ported over from the 360 wouldn't have been so gimped-up by the 360's lesser discabilities, as some of them were.

It's a question though Biker… remember that on the 360, whilst it doesn't not have BR, it still does not stop a publisher from making a fantastic game across multiple DVD's.
Not having a BR player doesn't mean the 360 cannot process similar amounts of data, or cannot scale up to 1080p if need be; it just means your delivery medium is crimped and therefore, if the game is long, the gaming assets like, for example, textures and model/environment complexity, would be somewhat "watered down".
No doubt though, technical prowess is limited to some degree. The PS3 cell and spe combination is very powerful. We see for example how full screen blooming effects or realtime focus pulling is all done on the spe/spu's rather than RSX. So visually, if a PS3 game engine is optimised to use the massive parallelism made available via the PS3 Cell/RSX combination, then we are seeing a far better quality exclusive product than a 360 could do… generally speaking… but it has to be engineered to do so, otherwise the games look pretty much the same…
Also, it needed, a publisher could release a 360 game on lets say 3 DVD 9's, the game in question may not even run off the disks, it may simply install a huge game file on the disk and decompress a large amount of data so that in totality, if uncompressed, the game disk would have actually taken 4 DVD 9's instead of 3 when boxed. If this were the case you would have 50GB game like we see with some of the PS3's top exclusives…
It all depends on the engineering and what the publisher wants to do…
But as you say, overall, a publisher will think twice stamping out 3 to 5 DVD's for a game… so Blu Ray is better overall…

Biker, just for the record, I didn't thumb you down, that was someone else, I merely answered your post only 🙂

@mbg77, Thanks for correction.Well, thank god at least it's not more of the same. TPS have yet to evolve in this generation or any for that matter even Resident Evil wasn't evolutionary. This Sci-Fi looks promising.
…I still don't care about this game. Yes, its great that another developer choose to make the PS3 the lead platform and more need to do this to avoid making more horrid PS3 ports, but its still a typical space marines shooter in my eyes.
Agreed, there's so many FPS out there am getting really picky about the ones I do buy.
Just a small correction there Roach721, from what is known about Vanquish it will be TPS.
Take care.
@ biker
that would never work as microsoft will not allow developers to have a mandatory install and not all xboxes ship with a hard drive.
also sandbox games and the such would need to be run off the disc.
microsoft use some of the disc space for security and disc swapping would also not work for a 50 gig game because a lot of the stuff on cds would have to be the same; like the sounds, weapons, characters, voices etc.
so the developer would have say 3-5 gigs to work with?
how many discs would that require? lol

@Qubex,
Thanks for the info. I'm not tch savy so it's good to read up on You & highlanders techy comments.
As for the thumbs downers, no worries either way! LOL. I just have a few haters here that are curdled that I'm blunt & I've upset their little milk carts. And that I WILL always speak my mind instead of being just another one in their great herd of wool-fibered mammals.
lol i love how all the fanboyish hate is going to dissipate now… its funny to me
Lemme get this down, people who don't want crappy ports are fanboys?
Huh, I think you'll find that most people here still hate the decision t make a crappy port version of Bayonetta for the PS3 instead of doing it right. Does hating that mean that we should not in tern respect and reward what appears to be a good decision in the case of vanquish?
I think he means that before, no one on this site cared about this game. Now that we know the PS3 is the lead platform for it, its being welcomed with fruits in bread baskets. There's nothing wrong with changing your mind about it, but doing it JUST because the PS3 is the main platform is pretty hypocritical (not fanboyish, however…)

Sonic I realize you're just defending mikes side, but I think most of the skepticism surrounding this game has been because we haven't seen any game footage, and that it's made by a dev who recently shafted the PS3 with a crappy port.
Also the PS3 has been bitten before by crappy ports (Orange Box…yeargh). So hearing that it's being developed first on the PS3 is just a step in the right direction that maybe we wont get shafted.
I think president George W said it best – Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on, uh, sham on…
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
@SvenMD
But even with footage and if it wasn't revealed to have the PS3 as the lead platform, it's likely to get the same reaction. Even you compared it to Halo on a previous post. However, I'm not going to degrade the game since I still don't know enough details, but after seeing its presentation, its trailer, it's hero and knowing the fact it's going to be a shooter, it's a no brainer than this is likely something we're all familiar with.
mike rlz,
Not sure if I'm one of those you were thinking about when you made that comment, but I could see where some of my prior posts may cause you & some others to think so.
But, if that is the case, then please let me set the record straight.
Although I've made many "Gimping" comments in the other threads(including this game) which could have been misconstrued as me being a fanboy, I'm far from it.
I have about eighteen consoles & hand-helds at last count & I still play every single one of them(except for my SNES, which I had to put away due to lack of space & AV Jacks). I also have well over 1400 games for all of those those systems.
Now with that said, I don't hate the 360 at all, matter of fact I'm a gamer first, so I'll play on any machine I can get my hands on.
But….I DO HATE the parent company, MS, and with a passion for all the problems they keep causing us to have because of the 360, and their shady deals.
Matter of fact, I have a 250gig COD WM2 skinned 360 bundle.
And although the number changes weekly due to what used games are at GS, at this moment I have exactly the same amount of 360 games as I do PS3 games, and that number is 64 games each.
And from my stop at GS last night I wound up on my 360 playing for a while, with my newest used copies of Blue Dragon, Halo 3, & Bomberman: Act Zero.
Just thought I'd let ya know…..

BikerTown sounds awesome right about now.
How much is the admission? I'll be sure to bring my bicycle in my basement. Ok, my mother's basement.
love the wings cup picture, mike rlz
Actually, what I have noticed is the blame is going to PlatinumGames, when really the fault of the bad porting goes to Sega. Hating PlatinumGames for Bayonetta is akin to hating Valve for The Orange Box. (Hint: In the case of TOB, EA are the culprits.)
Edit:
@ Sonic1989
I don't see it as fanboyish or hypocritical. Or, at least, I can completely understand (it is obvious) why the PS3 being lead platform is such a positive thing to people here. It is because historically ports to PS3 have been bad. Avoiding this issue is obviously a plus to people here, so no hypocrisy, just a bit of wisdom derived from experience. So, yeah definitely understandable.
Edit: SvenMD
I see you fell into both pitfalls.

Pushtrak – your logic is a little off. So basically you can just pass the buck on porting your game to a different system and if it comes out as a crappy port you have NO reponsibility because you didn't port it yourself???
I DO think that Valve should take some responsibility for pawning their game to EA who didn't create a polished port, just as I think Platinum should take responsibility for letting SEGA create a crappy Boyonetta port for the PS3.
All 4 companies were involved and all 4 should be held accountable.
So don't tell me I fell into a "pitfall", when that pitfall is just your opinion.
People here are taking the approach of questioning how good the development team at PlatinumGames and Valve, or at least it looks that way. As in, most people take the route of said companies have released poor ports. The development behind the products was not directly their doing.
In this case, it comes across from the article that it'll be the lead platform, so this game will have actual PlatinumGames developers helming it.
Shoddy professionalism on allowing the game to be released is debatable. I'd counter it by saying, well, Sega were the publishers on the Xbox 360 one, and the developers on the PS3 one. The publisher is the one with a lot of power in decision making. They set the deadlines to which the developer must adhere. The developer doesn't turn to the publsher if they port it and say "don't release this". That just wouldn't happen.
Can you imagine such a thing? The developers actually being listened to on such a thing? Such a concept should be how things work, but in reality the concept is laughable.
Come on guys. You're arguing about developer-publisher relationship as if you have not read a word about the Activision – Infinity Ward saga. This is pretty much how much power the publisher has. So it's hard to blame developer for a crappy port of their game if it was done by the publisher.
Take care.

i retract my comment. i made it coming from the FlameWars of youtube 🙂
Well, you certainly got a lot of discussion going. One has to scroll a ways up to get to that reply option.
@Taha1,
Thanks for your info too.
Ya know….my 360's a 250gigger, so I even wasn't thinking about the arcade models without a HD..
And as long as I've been popping games into my Elite Deluxe, I never even noticed that's there's been no installs, but now that you've just mentioned it to me…..
I'm now like….. DUHHH???….why the hell didn't I notice that?????
And as for the other info, thanks, it's always good to learn more about the inner-working of my own damn machine. LOL
Well that is good news, ya gotta learn from your horrendously abysmal mistakes. Can't say I'm super interested in this until I see some gameplay but at least we don't have to write it off completely.
Great news? This is excellent news! It's like getting a multiplat title that has an exclusive's quality (well, that's what should happen, I mean look at FFXIII)
I'm glad to see that they learned from their mistake, but its still a shooter and so for me, it'll still most likely be a bargain bin buy if a buy at all. No offense to the shooter fans, not for me.
meh there going to have to do a hell of allot more than that to win me over.
fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
we have to many shooters as it is, you really need to do something special to stand out from the crowd, and to be honest i dont think they have what it takes to stand out.
release a crappy horror game and it will sell because there are very few horror games, but shooters well thats a different story.
as the famous eddy Murphy said starve a man for a week than give him a cracker and hes going to love that cracker.
feed him on nothing but high quality cuisine for a week, than give him a cracker and hes going to scoff at you.
There are a few pretty nice looking screen shots over at IGN.
Does anyone think this game looks like Master Chief and a power ranger had a baby?
Yes, Yes, Yes.
Good to read.
I've said it once and I'll say it again:
SHINJI MIKAMI IS THE MAN!
RE5 would've been a totally different game rather than the disaster that which was the "alternative" version to Lost Planet.
Even after giving us the crappy port, Bayonetta still sold better on the PS3 than the Xbox. I'm quite frankly amazed that this developer is now using the PS3 as the lead platform – it almost makes me think that they appreciate our patronage.
That can't be right…can it?
Anyhow, too bad now all we're getting out of them is a shooter. I am just so incredibly bored with shooters. Seriously, if they had a brain in their head they would have given us the superior version of Bayonetta and used the xbox for the lead platform for FPS #8,975.
That robot looks awesome.
i think al leave my TPS shooter fix until SOCOM 4. unless syphon filter gets a shock anouncment
