Ignition Announces Multiplayer Shooter Blacklight: Tango Down

Downloadable titles are becoming bigger and better with every passing month, and the latest is a multiplayer-oriented shooter that could be well worth your time and money.

Ignition Entertainment has officially announced Blacklight: Tango Down , "a near-future first person shooter that will offer AAA-quality military shooter action in a downloadable package." Developed by Zombie Studios, it will arrive this summer for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Set in the fictional universe of Blacklight and utilizing the power of the Unreal Engine 3, we will have the benefit of "disturbingly detailed and old-world architecture dripping with modern sci-fi lighting and brightly lit advertisements." Don't confuse the latter part with real in-game ads, though; these are included for the sake of the environment, so the player will still feel as if the futuristic atmosphere is "hauntingly familiar." Said Ajay Chada, Ignition President of Worldwide Studios:

"We’re excited to be working on a gripping new franchise that will deliver the intense action, thoughtful tactics and in-depth strategies of today’s best multiplayer shooters immersed in an all new universe that gamers will really sink their teeth into. Blacklight: Tango Down is set to change the way gamers view the possibilities of downloadable content because it will offer shooter fans the top quality, deep content and exciting experience that they are used to finding in a retail product but in a downloadable package."

Available gameplay modes will include the standard Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, while more will be revealed as the game gets closer to launch. According to the press release, Blacklight 's standout element will be the "deep customization features." Players will have the opportunity to upgrade and customize everything from their character to their weapons; customizing your weapons will come with time as the player unlocks more skill and experience points. You will also find a variety of items with which to upgrade, so stay on the lookout for those. Here's hoping Blacklight: Tango Down really does separate itself from the pack…

What? You don't like going down to the ol' frat house and kickin' back a few brewskies with the bros and smokin' a fatty while pwning some n00bs in a drunken haze of testosterone then stumbling over to the sorority house to get some tail only to wind up chucking in your bros shoes 'cause you were like totally gone after that last Jager-bomb?

After buying the pile of poo known as "The Punisher: No Mercy" on a whim, I've come to the conclusion that I will no longer buy a downloadable FPS again unless there's a demo first ("CellFactor" was a sweet game, though). As interesting as this game sounds, if there's no demo, there's no purchase from me.

I got sick of shooter's after about 5 minutes and i'll never understand why any of them sell so well. Kz2 was probly the most unique and interesting one i've ever played but for the love, i swear there are like 80 shooters coming out all the time, do developers have some magic machine that just pumps out 1 lame shooter after another.

Give me a story any day.

Hmmm sounds like DLC devs are trying to make bigger and better psn and xbl games, I'm all for that. Why else would they go safety 1st with a fps? I just wonder when they'll start cutting content to accomodate…

Oh Gawd!!! Not another one.

How about something different? Like an FPS RPG Racing platformer with Rock Band controls and Buzz buzzer missile launchers?

… actually, that would be kinda kickass!!!

… so, you want a realistic down-to-earth game that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots?

i wish developers would also release their games on disks.
there are so many PSN titles i want to get but cant because i dont have enough download usage to use for what i need let alone recreational use.
actually in fact the only PSN game i have downloaded is R&C QFB because come on its R&C how could i resist?
