Original Story:
Well, that was a touch scary, huh?
Yesterday's mess revolving around the totally screwy game clock in older PlayStation 3 models has started to disappear; many PS3 owners at multiple sites and forums around the Internet are beginning to report a reversal of fortune. As far as we know, Sony didn't actually do anything and the day certainly hasn't changed yet, but we doubt those with functioning PS3s are gonna complain. If you haven't checked your PS3 for fear of seeing a very effed-up XMB, you might want to turn it on and check it out. It seems the consoles are springing back to life everywhere, although again, we have no official "yeah, it's all over" statement from Sony. All we can do is report on what we've heard and many of our readers, along with members of other major sites, are saying they're once again good to go. If your PS3 has not yet returned to form, you can check your Trophies at PlayStation.com just to insure they haven't disappeared forever, and make sure to stay tuned for future updates. Luckily, this was not a virus or a hack of any kind; it was merely a hardware malfunction based on a built-in calendar issue.
That doesn't stop it from being annoying, frightening, and a little funny. Not funny in a "ha-ha" sort of way, but funny in a "the instant Sony begins to dominate, the world almost explodes due to a tiny error" sort of way. Yeah, well, the Challenger had a "tiny error," too… Anyway, we'll keep an eye out but for now, it seems like we can return to business as usual.
@Qubex,
LOL, you're right, but I did just that the before I posted it, & it wouldn't highlight or link for me, so I figured Ben forgot the link.
But I just went back to re-checked it, & now it glows Red & it works.
So my guess is that somehow, the essence of the PS3's Y2K bug infected my own eyeballs for a few moments too.
Not exactly sure why it happened but maybe I had better go put a call in to Skully & Mulder, just because
"The truth is out there"
it's alive… ITS ALIVE!!
Yep, it came back to life but, the date was still wrong so I did the update via Internet and it still works 🙂
Damn you Sony! Scare the heck out of me LOL
Great news. I love paying $400 for something and having it actually work as it's supposed to. Oh happy day!!!
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
my heavy rain trophies are gone, sad day is sad
Just pop your game back in and synce up trophies.
Its only local trophy data that was lost. Your trophies that are saved to the server are not effected. Meaning that all you have to do is re-sync the PS3 to the servers and you're done.
first thing I did was sync, the Heavy Rain section of my trophies came back, but without any unlocked trophies
Mine works thank god, but my Heavy Rain trophies are gone, why could my AC II trophies be lost, I don't give a crap about those…lol…Heavy Rain is the only game I seem to really care about trophies for…I want the "Seen every ending" trophy. I have seen alot of endings and I still haven't seen the all the endings, whoa!!!
If your trophies are missing just pop in the game disc. They will come back, unless they were not synced through PSN before the PS3 became self aware…
check out that new avatar….

awesome! 🙂
Its the Jesus Console except better because the PS3 only took one day to come back to life.
NoSmokingBandit… the ultimate test would be if you should throw your PS3 into your bath tab and see if it really will float on water…
…then my friend, you really do have a Jesus console…

I like it! Have you seen the one here that was removed? http://tinypic.com/images/404.gif
I have a copy of it for all who are interested.
Friend me on PS3 if you want it or email me @ th*********@gm***.com
I'm just glad it's over. Not sure I could handle that level of vigilance for too long. Think I'll go…um…collapse somewhere now.
'seriously contemplates not working out tomorrow then quickly discards the idea'
Thanks Ben for keeping us updated and working as hard as you did. Nice to get updates from a place that doesn't proclaim its the end of the world or PSN in IGN's case.

Yea, Yahoo is using some pretty misleading headline too.
So it did end up fixing it self! Huzzah!
Seems that way. I just turned my 60gb on a few hours ago and it was working fine. Like nothing ever happened.
Alright, now tell the truth….
how many of you actually went bonkers like this guy???

COME ON, FESS UP!!!!
(BTW, I just popped 2 "fu*ckital's, so I was fine).
Alleluia
yes it works again ..
😉 (will hjave a big smile while going to work)
cheers!
im glad its working now. i thought my trophies for borderlands was gone completely cause i got on doing this bug problem thing but it was before i knew everybody was getting it so i thought it was just my router or something. luckly as soon as i went online today after they fix it and started up bl my trophies synced up and they were all there again.
Thanks Ben for the updates, I agree this was one stressful time LOL, but Sony was able to get it fixed in a timely manner Good for them 🙂 can't wait to start playing again, I know my kids will just be happy Mommy will turn it back on so they can watch their dvds not saying the PS2 isn't good for that but they have alot of Blueray disney movies.
Sony didn't fix anything did they because from what I see, the system just started working again and I wasn't even connected. Trophies came back too even though I don't care, well just for Heavy Rain.
PS3. it only does everything. BUT LEAP YEAR!
anyone else think this is a little to much to be a coincidence?
i mean it was only a few weeks ago a few guys were posting on the net that they had finally hacked the ps3 and had full access to the hypervisor, spus, the lot.
and now the PSN has gone pear shaped.
wonder if they somehow found a way to hack into the PSN and wreak some havok.
just seems to time convenient to me.
Well, let's not let facts get in the way of hyperbole eh? It wasn't a few guys it was one guy. He managed to glitch the hypervizor while the PS3 was in 'otheros' mode (which 'slim' models don't even have). That is about the limit of his hack. In truth, the guy needs to stick to iPhones. All he managed to do was grab the headlines and push some hypervizor calls in "otheros" mode. He didn't get close to the important stuff. The "hack" doesn't survive a cold boot and won't operate with legitimate software.
Either way what that guy did, did not penetrate the system security, cryptography, the keys or the PSN. I've done a lot of reading over the years about Cell and secure computing. In an ordinary x86 based system having hypervisor control is the holy grail. In the Cell environment, the hypervisor is not in charge of security. Even if you have the hypervisor under your control, it only allows certain things. As soon as you try to do something that requires authentication the game is over.
In other words, the hack was not much of a hack, and had nothing to do with this.
Hey does mean my ex is coming back too!?……
Aww…

I think Square-Enix helped Sony, They sent 30+ million Phoenix Downs to Sony:P
Everybody run for the hills! The PS3 is capable of fixing itself. Next thing you know it's gonna start launching nukes!

Vengeance is mine sayeth the lord PS3…
We should make all year leap errors a celebration thing, so it doesn't fix the eye to the bug that much. sumthin like turnin everything off in celebration of another year-leap
Machines fixing themselves. What a brave new world we live in…
*hides in corner awaiting Judgement Day…*
I'm glad that it happened when it did. A beautiful day, got some yard work done, earned $3 million in GT5 on my PSP, and everything should be working great for FFXIII and GoWIII!!
Couldn't game for a day? Why don't ya cry about it, saddlebags! LOL
The issue was nothing compared to rrod.
I played it perfectly, not one trophy, game or theme problem for me. I rule.
So Sony Equipped the PS3 with Ribbon, (teh awesome) *runs through the room with the arms raised shouting "It has a Ribbon just like FF-VII"*
And the PS3 internal log cracked me up, everyone in the office stared at me…

I never had any problems during the glitch period. I played COD4:MW2 with no problems. The date was correct too. I have a launch 60GB.
wait how do you get it to work again?!? please reply
Sony is hacked and always will be hacked.. no matter what they do. they can make a new firmware they can change all there codes, they can do what ever they want to do. but it all comes down to the point that they will hacked again and again. and maybe worse. HERE THIS OUT.. 3.55 came out ok it was running for a while till they figured out they got hacked and CFW came out so they put a update 3.56 in 1week it got hacked or i would say jailbroken. and 2weeks after they put a next update 3.60 saying controller auto shut off.. we all know thats b.s they sent that update becuase 3.56 got jailbroken and people was still hacking online games. so 3.60 came out 2weeks again what happen jailbroken.. so they shut the services… now about the the credit card stolen out of sonys safe.. sony deserved 100% what they got.. 1 hacker knowing to all "geohot" got sued for hacking the unhackable system the PS3, and sony will now be facing 1.1billion dollars in lawsuits. now sony will feel what geohot felt when he got sued but 5times harder. SONY LEAVE THE HACKERS THEY ONLY HACK GAMES AND MAKE CUSTOM FIRMWARES. THEY COULD CARELESS ABOUT THE CREDIT CARD OR ANYTHING ELSE.I WILL NOT EXPOSE.. THEY TOOK THE CREDIT CARD INFORMATION ON PURPOSE TO MAKE YOU GET SUED BECAUSE WHAT YOU DID TO GEOHOT. REVENGE IS A BI*CH.
