The high review scores for Heavy Rain resulted in a big pre-order surge and because it's a PlayStation 3 exclusive, this has in turn caused a rise in PS3 hardware sales.
As reported by Punch Jump , sales of the 250GB PS3 have jumped 160% this past week at Amazon.com; it currently ranks #5 on in the online retailer's games division. Not surprisingly, in this same period, Quantic Dream's highly anticipated title is the #1 product in that same division; Heavy Rain officially launched yesterday to scores of anxious and enthusiastic gamers. So far in 2010, the PS3 has been performing well after finishing 2009 with a bang. Sony announced that they sold around 6.5 million units in the third quarter, which marks a significant increase from the 4.5 million it sold in Q3 2008. All told, the worldwide PS3 sales number sits at 33.5 million, and with another huge exclusive dropping next month, we should see the console continue to rise. God of War III is a more mainstream title than Heavy Rain and many PS3 owners will tell you they bought the machine for the express purpose of playing the third GoW entry. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but we still say you're missing out if you pass on Heavy Rain .
How important is an excellent exclusive? …at this point, should we even have to ask that question?
Won over a friend who was on the fence by showing them Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and Littlebig Planet. Motorstorm Pacific Rift was a good multiplayer sampler.
I guarentee, those 4 games, along with God of War 3 and GT 5, and the motion controls towards the end of the year, will make the PS3 unstoppable. A lot of Wii owners might relate to the Arc controllers better than the Natal camera. Look how well Eyetoy did compared to the Wii. The devs are definitely onto something.
Why would they think GOWIII would be on the 360? Isn't GOW owned by Sony?
It's like saying that Halo will be on the PS3. Are they that delusional?

If you're talking about Xbots, then yes they can be that delusional.
Also directed to the PS3ers that believe Halo will be on the PS3. Although Bungie is working on a Multiplat title, it isn't Halo.
Sony own GOW?
Then can someone explain to me why Capcom is publishing GOW in Japan?
I dunno Snake, but Sony does own it. It is made by Sony Santa Monica.
A co-worker w/ a 360 said he thought HEAVY RAIN seemed pretty interesting. On the other hand, another co-worker just got rid of his 40GB PS3 because of being disgusted w/ Sony's customer service after being being unable to install a PSOne download from the PSN…which they admitted they had no idea what the cause was but that it seemed to happen w/ 40GB models and only offered to exchange his unit w/ a refurbished 120GB Slim model for $50. Personally, I think HE'S the unreasonable one over just ONE game.
Omg, just $50 for a refurbished slim? man, I would jump to that offer right away.
LOL. It seems everyone knows somebody that does incredibly stupid things. I have a friend who sold his ps3 to his brother that was living with him and paying no bills. Now his brother is gone and so is the ps3 along with his excuse that he still got to play it.
@ SaintX. I wouldn't trade my 40gb phatty for a $50 refurb slim. It just doesn't sound like a fair deal.
I was more surprised to hear that they admitted to him there was some mysterious KNOWN issue w/ 40GB PS3s that I had never heard of elsewhere (and I have no reason to doubt him about that). He even did a full system restore on the unit and the game would still fail at about 18% installed, even after re-downloading about 6 times and including not doing it in the background.
Totally didn't expected this when UC2 failed at this.
With this Heavy Rain will sell 2 million copies within 2 months or so and prove me wrong.
Now I regret giving my PS3 away…….ah well, gotta work hard and buy a 250GB next time.
gave it away? are you out of your mind?
you gave your ps3 away? blasphemy!!!!!!!
SNAKE!?!? SNAKE!!! SNAKEEEEEEE!!!!!! (-: lol now that that's out of the way… damn! YOU GAVE IT AWAY! I had two ps3's at one time an 80 gig and more recently (as of late august) a slim 120 gig. I at least sold the 80 gig to a friend of mine for 200 bucks! haha
Is it such a bad thing?
I'm buying another PS3 in May for FFXIII and GOWIII.
I CAN'T DECIDE IF I WANT TO CHOP OFF ONE OF MY FINGERS OR NOT!! i don't think i'm going to do it. i'm not going to give that sick bastard what he wants.
i don't consider this a spoiler
gotta go!!
It kinda was. I'm not there yet. Oh well, I have the day off and should be playing instead of reading.
Ben should delete both our posts to keep someone else from seeing what you wrote.
It's in one of the trailers for the game, tes37.
Oh, sorry. I didn't know. I pretty much steered clear of them. Wish I could delete my reply.
Sorry, but it really was in one of trailers. I actually saw it coming during the game.
hello …
system seller or not, i bought HR concept the first time i saw a video of it.
HR was my first direct pre-order ever (others are through my local DEALER)
HR is my first Special Edition
I bought the PS3 2 years ago for God of War 3 & pre-ordered it from my DEALER when it was TBA on all sites.
LOL @ Ben's enumeration of Xbots replies, i've seen so much around & now quite immunized against.
Go PS3 GO, great system, now great price & nice 'true' exclusive lineup! … MS Exclusive can also be found on another, sorry the best gaming platform if you have the money .. the PC! & unfortunately it's also the place where they are mostly pirated LOL.
cheers!

Can your DEALER get me an eighth?
@World, ME TOO PLEASE!?!? lolol
Nice to see Heavy Rain doing well along with the PS3 at Amazon.
I just picked up my copy of Heavy Rain yesterday, and tonight I play it!
Its good to see a much deserved game do so well. I just can't get it right now because Gow3 is coming and Kratos told me if you pick madison paige over me you shall go down with the rest of olympus XD. Can't wait to get this game though.
Lol and Microsoft said they had a equal to this called Alan Wake? Ha! Seems they need to Alan WAKE the hell up with these bull**** comparisons.
@Solidfantasy
I know how you feel. This game forces you to make some really difficult decisions.. I finished it last night. There were a number of instances where I had to pause the game, put down the controller and take a few deep ,calming breathes whilst trying to decide what to do.. No other game has ever made me second guess myself like this one has. I kept looking back, wondering whether I had done the right thing. I'm pretty pleased with the conclusion I got. I managed to keep everyone alive and they all had happy endings.
The replay value looks pretty immense. I've replayed the last two scenes a few times making slightly different choices and got four different endings. One of which was gutwrenchingly sad. Can't wait to start from scratch and see what other scenarios there are to discover. But that will have to wait until after I've played the taxidermist chronicle. I'm downloading it right now.
Heavy Rain is one of the greatest games of all time PERIOD! it has one of the best stories ever!
HA, "Indigo" always had a "Prophecy" that Heavy Rain would be great.
And the fact that QD also turned up the "Fahrenheit" so high with Heavy rain, that it's already become a virtual living-legend classic in itself, which will transcend the history book pages of gaming forever!

ooooooooooooooooo.. word play eh?
I can't wait to get my copy of Heavy Rain. I'm in South Africa so it might take a couple of extra days to get here….F*CK!!!
Anyway I am really happy to see that HR is getting the respect and attention it deserves. And Ben you were worried that it might not sell as well as it should. I guess you can relax now…
As for exclusives it is very important these days as that will determine what type of clientele buy your console… And the PS3 is ruling on that front.
Sure we have lost exclusivity on a couple of games but NONE of them comes close to a true Playstation Exclusive.
And I'm not trying to cause a fanboy war all over, but they are only possible on the PS3.
I can proudly say I am a VERY happy owner of a PS3. And my gaming year(s) look really good. As far as the 360 goes???? What do they have left except for the 3/4 franchises that keeps them alive? Halo? Gears? Mass Effect? Fable?
Great games and all but how long can the survive on just a hand full of quality titles???
The better bring their new "hope" machine out soon….oh wait it will still be DVD based right? Mmmmm….
Maybe it won't be a bad Idea to still use HD dvd in their next system at least they will have more room to work with…. But that is only 20% of the battle right there…
I'm from SA too ,but I received my copy of the game on Monday the 22nd.. Huge surprize given how long they like to make us wait, especially with niche games like this one.
I just noticed that this article was written by someone named John Shepard… How ironic..
I noticed the John Sheppard too, but it had two P's. My name is Troy, but I don't beat up hookers.
I played the demo for heavy rain and was pleasantly surprised. The demo alone was enough to hook me.
However i won't buy this game now or anytime soon.
With the way the game is set up with the "chapters" and being able to download new chapters for $5 a piece, i'd rather just wait for about a year or so until the game of the year edition comes out with all the additional chapters and it'll still be 60 bucks.
Tired of getting screwed for buying games at release only to have half a game and the rest available for download for an additional cost.
