Warner Acquires “Majority Stake” In Rocksteady Studios

Batman: Arkham Asylum was just too good. Warner had to have 'em.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has announced their "acquisition of a majority stake in Rocksteady Studios," the developer responsible for last year's stellar superhero title. The team is located in London and specializes in developing action/adventure games and one of 2009's best obviously convinced Warner that Rocksteady was a darn good buy. "Rocksteady demonstrated its professionalism and extraordinary development abilities with Batman: Arkham Asylum ," said Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros. president. "This arrangement is a great strategic fit and we are very pleased to solidify our relationship with this talented development team." Warner likes to focus on big game franchises; they've already worked to secure the rights to names like Mortal Kombat , The Lord of the Rings and Traveller's LEGO , so to add Batman to the list certainly fits with their business plan. Added Sefton Hill, Rocksteady games director:

"We are proud to strengthen our association with WBIE, a world class publisher that we have enjoyed working with since we began developing Batman: Arkham Asylum. The Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognized Warner Bros. brands like Batman."

Some time soon, we hope to hear more about the sequel that is currently in development at Rocksteady. Fans of the original – and there are many fans – will definitely line up to snag it, and we're kinda hoping the team tries to make a great Superman game after all is said and done. Maybe they're the only ones who can do it…

I wonder if movie studios will interfere with Sony getting a exclusive DLC for Batman AA 2.

I gotta get my hands on the first game. I loved the villain take-down concept.

a darker take on superman would be fantastic! ive always wanted to slice someone in half with heat vision. lol seriously if done correctly supermans powers would play out well for a game… ahem…if done correctly!

I think that a darker superman flick is in the works. but i doubt he'll get to kill though. all that wasted potential.

also, does his x-ray vision cause cancer?

LOL at carlosspicyweinr's comment. A little heat vision would be nice. Maybe implement the x-ray power to see through a woman's clothing. I mean you would use the x-ray power for other more important things as well but you know a little diversity never hurt anyone.

I wonder if they will try to replace the character design to be based on the stars of Christopher Nolan's bat-movies…

I am actually not sure which one I'd prefer more

51% ftw. Not a huge batfan but you guys better bring Mortal Kombat back from the dead and not tame it.

Damned shame Sony didn't buy them, thereby keeping every game "exclusive".

sweet!
lets hope we see more batman AA games, and less batman begins games.
and hopefully WB put monolith to good use and get them to make another F.E.A.R but like the first NOT the second that sucked!
and add another condemned game, the first 2 were brilliant! among the best horror games ever made!
O, and dont forget a new mortal kombat game, but please not a reboot.
i saw the concept art and while it looks ok i really dont like it as much as the previous stuff.
just do another mortal kombat deception and than a new mortal kombat shaolin monks and ill be happy.
