Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow Details, Progress Report

With all the great games on tap for 2010, it's easy to forget about a few. Perhaps you've forgotten about Castlevania: Lords of Shadow , so we're here to rekindle your excitement and anticipation.

According to Galaxy Next Door citing a Spanish gaming publication, there's new information that includes Hideo Kojima's role in the development process, the title's dis similarity with other action games like God of War and Devil May Cry , and some specific details about the content. Firstly, Kojima really only has an executive role, so-to-speak, in that he tells the team what he thinks should be improved, although he is supervising the process thus far (like helping out with facial and battle animations). We learn the story will be "different, darker – more mature" than the aforementioned action blockbuster franchises, and that we can expect a fairly deep love story. How it can be "darker" than something like GoW, we're not sure, but we imagine by "more mature," he perhaps means more intellectual. Moving on, we're told to expect platforming like we had in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (use your whip to grapple!), so that sounds promising.

Your primary and secondary weapons are fully upgradeable, relics will grant Gabriel new abilities, and the battle system is more about strategy than "mashing buttons." Right now, the project is about 70-75% complete and the adventure is "playable from beginning to end;" all that's left is to add a whole lot of polish. Oh, and interestingly enough, this game started out as a straight remake of the first Castlevania title that debuted way back during the original Nintendo era. But since Castlevania IV is already a remake, they figured they should move forward. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will indeed be on display at E3 this year, so expect to see the first gameplay videos around then. We're definitely looking forward to it.

No CGI, all in game cut scenes like GOW3. I'm really wanting this game.

I thought this title started out as not even being a Castlevania title?

Anyway, looking forward to it but I will wait for reviews when it drops. While I've been down with the whip since Castle1, I dunno bout this "strategy" stuff.

The only reason i really even interested in this game is because Kojima Pro is doing it. Ill wait for the reviews, but if its half as good as God of War III ill get it.

I agree. Although, I think sometimes his story writing goes off the deep end in to the valley of sappiness, his attention to detail, gameplay, and immersion is indisputable. So I can tolerate the cheesy love story, if the game is good enough.

I always hoped they would pick up Castlevania Resurrection some day after it got canceled for Dreamcast. That looked like a gem and we really need a console Castlevania with a female.

just because hes the producer does not mean he wont create some stuff in the game.
for example stig is the producer of GOW3 but hes also the lead level designer.
producers have multiple roles during development all the time.
another example would be my tafe teacher makes XBLA titles and he was the producer and lead programmer.
anyway im really excited for this, i was really shocked to see it in this months PSM3 mag and it sounds really good.
but than of course it does, its made by konami and co.

Character designs look really cool. Kojima has something to do with this game so I'll look into it. Seems like this title has more to it than I previously imagined.

I am thankful that a new Castlevania is being made. I'm looking forward to this game. Hopefully this will give them a foundation to make another game with Alucard.

A 2D prologue, and then the main game in 3D. Put it on BD, it will sell like gangbusters.

I'm still "if-y" about this one. If this a true castlevania game than that means good ol' Drac is in. With that being said, I thought it was established that the only weapon to be able to kill Drac is the Vampire Killer a.k.a the infamous whip. Also the only person to be able to use this whip would have to be a Belmont. That was one reason why Castlevania 64 was never considered canon and I.M.O it was probably the worst one. Why would they change his main weapon. It seems as if they turned it into a cross. I just hope they know what they're doing cause to me small things like the ones stated count.

I've actually never played a castlevania game before(yeah, shame on me), but since I hear lots of praise on the games, I'll check this one out, if the PSXE review is good though.

I think I'm one of 5 people who actually enjoyed the PS2 Castlevania games. They were actually pretty decent.

I'm really looking forward to this. I still need to see some more info first though.

I liked Curse of Darkness, Lament kind of got lame quickly.

I thought Lament of Innocence was a pretty decent game. The story was pretty cool (though it makes you wonder how the bloodline continued, ds 2d sequel?)

It did a lot of things right, though level gains would have been nice.

Curse of darkness was a big let down except for having Trevor in it. Hector was designed too much like Alucard and the gameplay was kinda bland, good music though.

Here's hoping the new game is sweet and Michiru Yamane continues with great music.

You should check out Castlevania Rebirth on Wii. Fun but set aside at least 2-3 hourse to beat it in one sitting.

You're not, I very much liked LoI, it had it's flaws but all in all a decent game. CoD on the other hand I still haven't beat. Will get around to it some day, hopefully.

If Kojima has anything to do with it, it should definitely be a triple A title, those Japanese guys have that whole code of honor thing I don't think you'll see a bad game with HIS name anywhere near it. I hope that never changes

It's pretty damn silly the way everything is compared to GOW nowadays.

Woo hoo!! I always wished they would create another Castlevania that had that Zelda feel to it (i forgot which game it was that you pieced together Count to kill him all over again). Perhaps adding "thinking" to a game rather than making it a linear roller coaster is just what I'll expect to enjoy!

I know.. Pretty hopeful aren't I?! haha..
