SCEA On Dante’s Inferno: “We All Wanted To See It”

There's little doubt that EA's Dante's Inferno is very much like SCEA's God of War franchise, but neither side views this as a bad thing.

Last year, when a reporter told an EA designer that their new action project looked an awful lot like GoW, the team member didn't balk in the slightest. He said the studio is flattered that people see it that way; after all, God of War is one of the most revered and popular franchises out there. They have never once hid the fact that SCEA proved to be a big influence for the Inferno project, but how do the SCEA guys feel? Well, they have no problems with it and in fact, they're pretty big fans of EA's new action extravaganza. According to CVG citing the UK Official PlayStation Magazine, God of War III director Stig Asmussen had some nice things to say about the competition:

"We've been intrigued about Dante's Inferno. This is my favourite genre, and the more people that are making [these games] the better. And this is a really rich story they're building on, it's very interesting. The day that the demo came out we were trying to download it on PSN at midnight. We all wanted to see it."

So no, SCEA isn't sitting behind closed doors in the office, plotting a dastardly revenge plan. They're not twisting cliched evil mustaches and cursing EA to hell because they "stole their ideas." That just isn't the case, and we're glad to hear it; we need the developers to be professionals, after all. And stay tuned for both the Dante's Inferno and Bioshock 2 reviews…

Agreed, beats GOW 1 and 2 combined. If you like action you must have this and GOWIII. And since it IS getting poopy reviews for how much great fun it is (maybe it isn't as technically sound as an exclusive but whatever) people can probably pick it up cheap soon.

"Only that resembles GOW is the fighting mechanics."

What about the box-pushing, the wall climbing, and the puzzle solving? What about the enemy designs? See, even though it is GOW reskinned, I'm not dismissing it for that reason. The reason why I'm waiting is, generally speaking, I don't like playing the same kind of game back-to-back. One kind of gets jaded for a bit. So if I had to pick a game of the two, it would be GOW3. I'm sure i'll get around to playing Dante's Inferno some time, but I don't want to spoil my appetite before dinner, if you get my meaning.

See: Tomb Raider

Lol, I don't remember Lara Croft groaning, charging the kick, and finally letting it go, for example.

Sure, a lot of games have puzzles, and what not, but it's fairly clear that the segments from DI are directly lifted from GOW.

A technical score is far different from an experience, and this experience made GOW1 and 2 boring.

i seriously dont know why everyone is hating on bayonetta ???? seriously i played the demo and it was awesome better than DMC4 if u ask me

I agree. Bayonetta was what I was expecting when I was waiting for DMC4. DMC4 was cool, but the battle-mechanics seemed to feel tacked on, rather than feeling original and solid as it did in DMC1, and DMC3/se. However, I have only played Bayonetta's demo, and from what Arnold has said, the loading times for levels, and item selection are nearly game-breaking on the ps3 version.

understandably a carbon copy of gow since it was developed by people who worked on gow, but come on. switch it up! changed health chests into fountains? lol. at the same time, it being similar means it is good like gow, despite 'unoriginality.' sounds like fanboyism from the naysayers 😛

There is plenty of original stuff in it. And some things just don't change, I mean red barrels in FPS will always go Boom won't they?

@________________

Right now, I believe the fastest car out is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4

8.0 liter W16 engine, the equivalent of two narrow angle V8 engines mated in a "W" configuration, & four turbochargers feed the engine.

0 to 62 MPH in 2.5 seconds
0 to 97 MPH in 5.5 seconds flat

(Wish I had a spare $2.1 million just laying around for this, my dream car)

yea in a straight line, but on a track no where near it.
it was quite impressive since it was the first car to have 100HP.
it was the first car to have a engine in the W shape because it was using 2 4 liter V8s which gave it its W16 heart.
and if i remember right it also was the first car to use 4 turbo chargers.
4!
the bugatti is so slow through the corners, its like a lounge on wheels.
you can have all the power in the world but if its so heavy its going to fall over.
actually the worlds fastest car to this day is actual a sweed.
the kooninzegg or however you spell it, the CKX i think its called.

I beat Dante's Inferno a couple days ago and now wishing I waited til it was cheaper. This game is nowhere as good as GoW 1/2, it's too damn repetitive. I give this game a 7. Now bring on the King(GoW 3)!

World,

You got balls for saying that. Dante's Inferno makes GOW1 and 2 look boring. I agree with you. DI was much more entertaining IMO. With GOW1 and 2 I felt like just pressing through to the end. GOW1 and 2 did have better puzzles but for some reason, I can't admit in my heart that GOW1 and 2 were better games. They just didn't do it for me.

Kratos is truly the epitome of a badass but that doesn't make a game for me. GOW's story seemed lacking and no I didn't feel sorry for Kratos, his fate was caused by his own barbaric and pathetic actions. Calling on Ares to bestow upon him the power to smite his enemies. Well Dante tells Death, "I will redeem myself". Dante took responsibility for his actions while Kratos still murders innocent people on a whim. Take the characters and compare them. Dante is without a doubt the more interesting of the two.

You do know that you're comparing two last gen games to a current gen one, right?

I was hoping someone would actually point that out…

Yeah, I pointed that out in a later article. However, I'm mostly talking about Kratos's character and the storyline. I think it's fair to compare storylines from games of different generations. I'm not talking about graphics, I'm talking about character development. I think it's a fair comparison when talking about it this way.
