When there's great demand for a product, you can bet that it might start to disappear from store shelves.
The PlayStation 3 had its best month ever last December, as Sony sold 1.36 million units worldwide. That number dropped in January (hardly a shock) but even the 276,900 Sony sold represented a 36% year-over-year increase.
This may result in a supply shortage for a little while, so if you haven't yet picked up your PS3 for the likes of Heavy Rain , God of War III and Gran Turismo 5 this year – not to mention last year's stellar exclusives – you may want to snag one soon. As IGN reminds us, Sony CEO Jack Tretton did say in his "thank you" note at the PlayStation Blog that inventory has been "tight" since the high demand of last fall, which was mostly due to the $100 price cut. Then, Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Patrick Seybold, warned that "the next few months will be tough on PS3 supply as the company looks to replenish retail stock."
"We're working very hard with our retail partners to meet consumer interest, but the demand is tremendously high for the PS3 and we expect tight inventory in the coming months."
Even Amazon is now restricting the purchase of the very hot 120GB PS3 to "one per household" and we've heard some GameStop retail stores tell us they're sold out of the system. This may be the very first time the PS3 supply has been low since the launch; for a while there, nobody really wanted one. $600 for a new system with few games, an unproven high-def format, and a lacking PSN wasn't cutting it for consumers. …my, how times have changed.
if there was one itd be red for sure look at the psp bundle. that red would be faqin bad azz
Screw that, I want the white/pink FFXIII Lightning bundle.
ha this is funny!
i just now got a call from gamecrazy telling me they got a big order of ps3s in just now. he sounded almost hurt when i told him i had to buy at walmart almost a week ago. lolol
I'm not sure about all the gamestops in my area (there are 3), but the one I go to was sold out of all PS3s new and used. The crazy thing was that I was going there to buy a new PS2 for my game room (because I have a slim in there, 60 GB's out in the living room) and they were all sold out of PS2s as well.
Glad i purchased my 2 systems in November with the great bundles. Had to have the 299 batman and infamous bundle on black friday and then i purched a 250 gig with a 50 gift card deal.. so sttrang i purchased a launch unit with a game and extra controller for about 750 and this last year i purchased 2 slims for the same price with 3 games and a movie….love it….but to me the BC was worth teh extra dough not to mention all the great games the first 2 years that many havent even tried yet….
This is both a positive and negative for Sony. Positive of course because that means PS3's are really selling and Sony should see their gain. Negative because sales will slow down and with console selling games like Heavy Rain and God of War III dropping, it would be a bad situation. Hopefully there's still enough to get them at another 300k sold.

@carlospicyweiner,
That one of "Devil Dog's" multiple personalities…"White Fang"
This alter ego likes to come out now & then just to show that indeed, Devil Dog "DOES", have a softer side.
Hopefully Sony doesn't get in trouble like Nintendo has with the wii. The wii shortage is becoming an epidemic.
That's because even Nintendo can't believe anybody wants one.
You just bashed the wii, I wonder where Nightmar is.
Who needs Nightmar when you got Wiiplay!
Dude, don't yell at the Wii! The Wii is your friend!
I have a few friends who bought the Wii to make their kids shut up… No one likes nagging kids, and they aren't old enough for a PS3, so the Wii is the only thing that makes them shut up!
So, before you bash at the Wii, try and remember that without it a lot of parents would be going crazy.
Crazy Parents = Bad. Happy Parents = Good.
😀

Wiiplay, nice avatar.
Wii and the kids DOWNSTAIRS can mean sexytime for parents UPSTAIRS. Thank you NINTENDO!
Oh Ben, what to do with you. I think Nintendo prooooobably knew they had something on their hands when they were developing the Wii. I think it would have still sold this many even if the stores stocked them in the cell phone accessory asle where you once said it belongs.
lol ben now thats some funny sh1t!
No carlospicyweinr, you typing ANYTHING and my hearing Peter's voice is some funny sh1t.
So what the hell did crazy parents do, before the Wii…..eat their young??

Yes Biker Saint. They ate their young. Ever since the Wii came out, the world population is exploding, and that is not a good thing.
I want a PS3 shaped like Pandora's box.
Uh-huh.
That was completely random.
Okay then… I want a PS3 shaped like an Xbox 360 so I can show all of my friends how my Xbox 360 is still working 6 years later.
Hold on, I've got a better one…
I want a PS3 shaped like a PS3 because it is already perfect. If it looked like anything else, it wouldn't be a PS3.
That would be kind of badass…lol
any1 know if there gonna be a new ps3 bundle for ps3?
My Girlfriend's mom wants to get a PS3 with her taxes, I just hope she gets it before the shortage picks up a little too much. She's already gonna get Dante's Inferno and Final Fantasy XIII, not to mention my GF getting the GoWIII Ultimate Edition at midnight, lol. It was her mom that convinced her to get the Ultimate Edition, lol.
Always check Ebay too 4 prices anything that has to do with the PS, that's where I buy my games, I don't care if there used. I can easily resurface the non-severe scratches and my games can play like new.
