Ben-DutkaPerhaps you thought Quantic Dream wrote the story, designed the characters, and then sought out voices to go along with those characters. Well, not quite.
In reality, they got the actors and then created the characters in the story based on the hired voice talents' physical appearances. Therefore, when you're controlling Ethan Mars, Scott Shelby, Madison Paige, and Norman Jayden, you are taking control of the virtual images of Pascal Langdale, Sam Douglas, Jacqui Ainsley and Leon Ockenden respectively. If you want proof, check out CVG ; they show you some photos of the actors alongside their on-screen personas in Heavy Rain . You will notice that Madison's hair is short and black while Jacqui Ainsley's hair is long and blonde but beyond that, it's the same body and face (a hot body and face, too). But the other actors are all very, very close to their virtual counterparts; Scott Shelby is Sam Douglas, for crying out loud. They also don't show you Aurélie Bancilhon, who plays Lauren Winter and again, the real and virtual version of that woman is spot-on. If you caught the tech demo featuring her some time ago, where she acts out a scene (not from the game) for an audition, you know who she is. She was also in the demo; she was the prostitute in "Sleazy Place."
When you get the game next week, you can see even more after unlocking extra content when playing. There are audition scenes for each of the four major actors, plus that tech demo for Bancilhon, and they even take you behind the scenes for motion capture. All those action scenes you see, like when Madison is attacked in her apartment? Acted out in real-time by real actors, my friends.

All the characters are great. I can't really pick one as the "best."
However, I WILL say that the scene where Madison patches up Ethan is absolutely ADORABLE.

I am sure she would have a giggle if she were reading these comments about her virtual self. Gamers getting all hot and bothered under their collers becuase of herself being rendered as a 3d avatar of sorts… ok, i admit it, she is damn hot… 🙂
Anyway, i expect this trend of motion capture to continue unabaited in the coming years, and getting more and more sophisticated as game design evolves, and the demand for realism marches ever forward. Having "Avatar"-like character detail is not far off – we should get there in the next 5 to 1o years… real-time in-game…
nVidia recently announced their new GF1oo series GPU. Having read the Fermi White Paper this GPU is in the order of being 8x more powerful than the current GT295 at the moment. The GF1oo has real-time dynamic tesselation modeling, allowing dynamic polygon scaling of models in real-time during gameplay using a method called displacement. In layman's terms, this new GPU can render millions of polygons per frame, rather than just a million or two.
Uncharted 2 does about 1 to 1.4 million polygon triangles per frame, pushing the RSX close to maximum… The GF1oo will do this 5x or more… Heavy Rain in 5 years time would look like a movie basically… and Maddi would look even hotter…

And after checking out all of Ainsley's site, there's just no way that Madison's bod even match's up close with that 5'9" long, legged stunner.
(not that I'm saying Madison's just a virtual 1-nighter either though).

No doubt. The should've kept her 'as is' (wishful thinking). Seems like they adjusted her face/head proportions on Madison, and modified her build, besides giving her a boy-cut and changing her color palette. They made her jaw more prominent, and elongated her body a bit, adding a touch of masculinity to make her seem more strong, and independent rather a model/pinup. She must've got real self-conscious when she saw her digital alter-ego. But yeah, I needed a cold shower after seeing those pics.
I personally don't like to know anything (including what they look like) about those that lend their voices to game characters.

dam, and i was hoping to finish that before i start the game since its a prequel.
