Ben-DutkaFans of the franchise have been hoping to hear about a new Kingdom Hearts for the PlayStation 3, but thus far, we have no such confirmation.
Even so, Square-Enix has no intention of abandoning the franchise and one would assume they'd make a new installment for the current batch of consoles. They just released Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSP but we want to learn more about the next title. According to Examiner.com citing a recent Famitsu interview with S-E boss Tetsuya Nomura, we're assured of the company's dedication to Kingdom Hearts and we even have a few new details on the next installment. First of all, the main character will not be Sora; instead, it'll be "another person who happens to play a central role in the ongoing saga." So let the speculation begin on that. Nomura also says the new game will "connect the complicated stories spread across previous titles," and it will not be called "Kingdom Hearts III." Of course, he wasn't about to come forward with concrete details (we still have no idea when it's coming), but he did say they want to release a new KH title every year "in order to keep the fans happy." Well, I'm no marketing genius but wouldn't one of those titles have to be on the PS3 for the fans to be "happy"…? I mean, it's only logical.
So anyway, we consider this to be good news. There's definitely a new Kingdom Hearts in the works and Square-Enix will continue to make these games, so our hopes are high for a PS3 announcement soon…

You missed out. They are kind of childish but still quite good.

They are great games. But the second one starts out painfully slow in my opinion. Give it time though.

I agree, excruciatingly slow. I couldn't even get past the beginning…
I loved KH and was strongly put off by KH2. Although I own both soundtracks and love them to death.
I think the only childish thing about them is the disney characters.
They are awesome games.
The next one not being a sequel, and not starring sora, is very bad news to me personally.

I just worry this will be next series to get "stolen" by the 360. Nomura is a pretty big PS supporter but so is Kojima and even he showed up on the MS E3 stage. Not that I intend my post to be only about this but, most on here probably don't know that MS of Japan still two more series to announce that they are "bringing to Xbox". It was part of their Monster Hunter for XBL announcement. I just hope the two aren't Persona and Kingdom Hearts. I worry Versus will go multiplat by TGS this year.

persona and kingdom hearts should stay in playstation! I am not afraid of none of them leaving. P3P is coming at PSP this summer! And then KH is coming back to PS! COM came back to Playstation. Nintendo just got some games because there was no PSP back when COM came out. Hope Days comes in PSN and coded comes as a mini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howas birth by sleep?. . . Haven^t played the second one yet, even though i have it. Still busy with the first, but i^m in my last year of highschool. . . So i can^t remember when i last touched it, too busy. If it sticks to the same battle mechanics then i^ll most def get it. . . Crisis core did it for me.
Kingdom hearts birth by sleep's battle system will be the same as the first two games'. I've also heard that the battle system has slightly improved in this game than the other ones.

Of course it won't because they want the series to be Multiplatform. If it did star Sora we'd be positive it would be Exclusive to the PS3.

Well Ben it just so happens I am a marketing genius and yes you are correct. One title must be on the PS3.
On a side note though I'm disappointed that Sora won't be the main character because when playing games like these I always get attached to the character.. oh well :/
Honestly I never liked Sora all that much. Good games but I found him frequently annoying.
I've never been a fan of Kingdom Hearts. One, because Disney is the devil. And two, because I personally believe that KH was the most mainstream "RPG" that moved away from the ATB system.
For anyone who's seen Birth by sleeps ending its pretty obvious that character is going to be aqua.Youtube birth by sleeps secret ending and you'll see why.
COME ON SE! Can we please just move forward? I'm so tired of these damn side stories that just make the whole plot and story all the more complicated! And is this some grand scheme work up so we can understand some of the plot holes in KH3? What about KH2? You totally confused everyone when you left out Chain of Memories but later filled it in after putting it out about a year or so later. What was up with that?
And if you DARE make KH3 a damned multiplat, it will not be pretty. Another thing, since Sora won't be the main character in this new one, my interest has already slid down a few notches. Sora is my favorite character of them all, and even playing as Roxas kills me. Twilight Town DRAGGED as did 358/2 Days.
So, you want to keep fans happy? Bring out KH3 for the PS3 – EXCLUSIVELY. It's really not cool how you just keep BSing all us loyal fans.
When Chain of Memories came out, I was like, "Whatever, it's KH so I don't care!". But with Birth by Sleep, Coded, and now this new one – NOT KH3 – in the works? It's getting a little overrated. Good thing I'm a diehard fan of KH or else you would have lost me. Long. Ago.

Yea I believe the next installment will be based on Riku during his time between KH1 and up to the time he went back to the gang in KH2. Though I wouldn't expect this as a PS3 title. My guess is after the millions Birth By Sleep sold SE can't afford to drop the franchise after KHIII releases. Also I do smell M$ running around the KH offices in the SW HQ. But I think KH going multiplatform will be based on how well Versus does. Trust me, Versus is going to be crazy. Even if KH does go multi, it will most likely be developed on the PS3. I just hope it doesn't cuz we can all see what happens when a high rated Sony game goes multi.

Well – good news is… it's kinda of a confirmation that KHIII is underway. As for Sora – I was never a fan of him… but introducing a new main character – curious how that will work out
