Most will say it's still far too early to talk about the next PlayStation, but try telling that to the rumor mill. It just can't help itself.
For instance, we've already heard that Sony has supposedly decided upon the specs for the PS4, which quickly incited a firestorm of discussion. And now, in speaking to PlayStation: The Official Magazine, freelance designer Tai Chiem has provided us with some prototype pics of what Sony's machine could look like. It's all sorts of futuristic with plenty of style and panache, and a definite departure from your standard PlayStation designs of the past. Said Chiem:
"[I wanted] to challenge myself to design something based on a current company while keeping their design language, but also taking it further. I wanted it to look like something Sony would design."
His mock-ups include the possibility a flexible touchscreen, a technology that "is currently being developed" and therefore could find its way into the PS4. Chiem says Samsung is already in the process of producing transparent screens and while he says the idea is still "cost prohibitive," it could still become a reality "in the next five to ten years." For our part, this space-age design is definitely a head-turner, but of course, it's hardly official. We expect it'll be a good long while before Sony offers anything official concerning the PS4 so in the meantime, we can always peruse such ideas with a smile and a, "wow, what if…?" mentality.
sorry guys, but i kinda have no idea what im looking at.
That concept is ridiculous!
I think sony will do something that still says "PlayStation" wen u look at it. The same way the PS3 was different, yet still had that PlayStation feel to it.
Getting out of the traditional "Sony Playstation look" would sadden me… I rather liked the style that Playstion has kept going through all these years. Just because times are changing doesn't mean that everything about the looks of the PS4 have to. And I do agree, it is a little early to be thinking about the PS4. The PS3 is still doing a great job of racking in the money from gamers and nongamers alike. And the PS3 needs room to breathe and grow more before a PS4 begins in the works of Sony. Although this is only a mock prototype, it's preassuring Sony into a corner. So, we get our PS4… You want a PS5 to go with that?
Everyone just needs to calm down and be content with what's here and now. The PS3. You know it was a while before PS3 came after the PS2… I would expect just about that long of a time gap, or maybe even more.
I don't even like the look of the slim PS3… The fat PS3 is where it's at. Beautiful and original. And why try to change the controller? Sony has kept the PS controller the same throughout all 3 systems. Only difference in the PS3's (Obviously) is the PS button. But the basic desgin is all the same.
Yeah, like I said, times are changing… But does that mean our beloved PS Systems have to also?
Almost 10 years between Playstations.
I'd rather have it they make one like the ps3 phat, like my 60 gig. Nothing like an integrated screen(that's what my tv is for) and I don't know if that controller will work, to me the controller I have now is perfect(the regular sixaxis), it's light and fits perfectly in my hands(unlike some big-ass white/green controller I know). All in all, I'd like them to not make a fancy console if it costs them the high quality of the PS3. We need to be able to play 'em awesome games coming out. And lastly, I'd rather not see anything with samsung in or around the Playstation(I just never really liked samsung).
too soon to release the thing, but its never too soon to start talking about it and placing down a foundation.
it took sony years to get the cell, and bluray up too scratch the ps3 was suppose to be out 2 years before it came out and that hurt them big time.
but i dont want a ps4 for at least another 3 years, what i do want though is a PSP 2.
what id like to see in the psp 2.
* a removable battery with a lifespan of minimum 6 hours.
* a touchscreen for use in XMB, music functionality, and maybe in game controls.
* SECOND NUB! O and second shoulder buttons.
* capable of displaying games at 720P, 60FPS, 2XMSAA.
* storage media utilizing MMP DUO.
* 20GB built in SSD for storage of movies, music.
* larger screen than the PSP 3000, brighter, higher contrast.
* TROPHIES!
* save anytime, anywhere compatibility.
something i want on the PS3 and actually it does have it bioshock 2 proving that, PSP 2 and PS3 need to utilize that for EVERY! game.
* being able to save game, shut down, than start the system and be in game like the psp go has.
* HD video output, that way i can connect my psp2 to my TV and play my games in 720P, full screen. none of this 4:3 BS!
thats about it, if it has those, especially the HD output and high res screen ill be extremely happy and buy one on release.
BUT sony seriously need to step up their game and release some exclusives for it.
and no ports of ps3 exclusives do not count!
By the time that the PS4, Wii HD, and 720 come out there will be no more dual analog controllers but just Wands XD
if thats true, thats the day my consoles go on ebay and i go back to the good old PC.
i HATE this motion controller BS!
can anyone imagine playing GOW, or a fast paced action game with motion only controllers?
its looks like the touch screen from the LG crystal phone.Great looking concept.
That would be pretty interesting, but why not have a hi-def 3D projector to boot? Who need a large flat screen 3D HD tv when you've got a PS4? lol.
$$$$$$$$$$$…that's why not.
