Towards the end of our Heavy Rain review , I said I was "terrified" that it might not be a sales success due to its originality, intelligence, and emotional sentimentality; traits that don't often resonate with a mass audience.
But as we've all learned by now, review scores are absolutely crucial in this industry and PSXE was hardly the only source to deliver glowing praise after the embargo lifted yesterday. This influx of extremely positive reviews has had an immediate and profound impact on the pre-order sales numbers for Quantic Dream's masterpiece; Heavy Rain has rocketed to the #1 slot on Amazon's Bestsellers for Video Games list. It has surged past the 120GB PS3 – a fixture in the top 10 over the past few months – and even huge titles like the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII and the recently released Bioshock 2 . If you haven't pre-ordered Heavy Rain just yet and wish to hop aboard the bandwagon, you should know that dropping your deposit on the game will get you the first Episode of the DLC, "Heavy Rain Chronicles," for free. These Episodes will start to hit the PSN soon after the game releases here in North America on February 23; they will cost $4.99 each but as I just said, a pre-order nets you the first one free. I believe GameStop is offering the same incentive.
I have to say, on a personal level, this news made my day. Not only have the majority of critics appreciated Quantic Dream's vision but so many gamers have further responded to that praise. It only proves that we're all growing up. 'little tear'
Related Game(s): Heavy Rain
I've had this one preordered since the day I picked up MAG (launch day). & mines was placed at Gamestop, so add one to those Amazon preorders :).
Glad the embargo lifts the 10th, so that people can like the reviews, then try the demo the next day! Then replay it until the 23rd, when the first important decision they'll make is to get the game or not.
Glad to see QD is getting some love for the innovation. Had mine preordered for a couple of months now and have started a countdown to Feb. 23rd.
Gamestop here I come. BTW, to all the gamestop register biscuits….Heavy Rain is a PS3 title, not a WII game. Get that straight before the 23rd please.
Hmmm, should I preorder at Amazon or Gamestop……. I'm not too fond of GameStop but I'll have to wait with Amazon…..
*pushes right stick up*
Amazon it is. I have games I need to finish now so waiting a few extra days won't hurt.
Yea GameStop can got to Hell! I can't wait for this game. I'll be Ready….
Too bad they can't market this game with a commercial that would showcase it almost like a movie because then the typical consumer would really be confused. Damn you people! Just buy it subliminally.
Best news I've heard all day.
LMAO! Otisfeelgood, *pushes right stick up* I had to give you a thumbs up for that one. Classic!
haha Glad someone liked it. ;x
"Such losers can only crawl out of the depths of obscurity for so long."
Ben, seriously here, you need to write a book. You have the mind and writing ability of a Literary GENIUS! I enjoyed that statement very much, not only because it hold so much truth but it was simply funny to read.
Ben, you are developing quite a fanbase. And your fanbase is requesting a novel. You cannot let us down, Can you?
Sidenote, does anyone else find it ironic that they put Halo:Legends out on Blu-ray? Or is that just me?

Like I said…I'll get back to you on that.
Personally, I'd rather Ben would keep doing the awesome job he does on the site.
Let World write the novel. 😉

Sorry guys, but someone please explain to me why you would pre-order any game?
I look at the economics of it (here in Australia anyway), you pre-order the game for $110, pay your money, wait a month and when it comes out on day one it is $79 in several other stores.
So why does everyone do that? It just puzzles me that's all.
Here in the U.S. it's $60 at most retailers, some places it's $55. Normally people preorder games to be "guaranteed" a copy when the game launches. Games rarely sell out at retailers so now they throw in incentives for preordering.
Here in the US, "good" games do not drop in price. We preorder them to be guaranteed a copy upon release. Not to mention, the preorder bonuses.
I said good games because there are games that drop in price maybe a week after release but not the amount that you have stated.
Had this pre-ordered in my mind as soon as I heard "The makers of indigo prophecy have a new game"
and last month I made it official with Best Buy who were also offering the free DLC incentive. Gonna pick it up day one! I had a gift card left over from christmas so it only cost me $40
Thanks OtisFeelgood. Still, you would need to have a lot of DLC incentive to make the $30 difference between a pre-order and first day purchase price.
In Australia especially, we have half a dozen places (EBGames, Game, JB-HiFi, BigW, KMart, Dick Smith) all undercutting each other on the first day.
Modern Warfare 2 was $109 pre-order and $69 on the day of release.
So suppose if you are in a city with a lot of competition it's great but pre-ordering makes more sense if you are in a small place with only one store.
Cheers
Those are awful high prices. Here in the US, we don't have competitors undercutting each other. The game is 59.99 pretty much everywhere you go. A collectors edition is the exception as they can range anywhere from 89.99 to upwards of 150.00 depending on the layout.
So basically we just preorder to have it on day 1. In all likelihood the game will be in stock somewhere but why waste the time looking when you can go ahead and buy the game. Especially when you know you are going to get it anyway.
No prob, man. Like rogers71 said the retailers here don't undercut each other so it's pretty much $59.99 until sales start to decline on the game.
Australian dollars, rogers71…but they probably still are more expensive than in North America.

Yip, $100 Australian is about $90 US, so we do pay a lot for games. The US is cheap and Europe and the UK are similar to Australia.
$100 Australian is a lot of money so if you see it at $79 on release day, it's a no brainer.
Wow, you guys are getting shafted, sorry for ya. ;(
from the demo of heavy rain i played the game is subpar. great visuals poor controls good story a blantent ripoff of csi and robocop. very little replay value a good rental ive played enough games with no gameplay. bioshock 2 was ok saved by the fantastic multiplayer. developers need to make actual games not stupid tv shows i can watch on tv. a gamer is someone who hates garbage television and chooses videogames as a escape from reality. im getting very annoyed at developers for taking so much making a game and ruining it even more.

Since your opinion diverges wildly from the majority, you'll have to excuse us if we consider you to be a statistical outlier and therefore beyond consideration.
This is one of the 'instant gratification' gamers we hear so much about. Obviously a drone that doesn't appreciate art and a meaningful story.
At least he took some time from playing an online deathmatch to post his opinion. As Highlander said, your opinion is beyond consideration.
Or, he could be 13 years of age.
Money's tight right now, but I think I can spare enough for this game. Btw, I just downloaded the demo and I love it!
I want this game and MAG! I just don't got time to go to stores and I don't pre-order stuff online. Don't ask why 🙂
Why? ;x
Yeah, WHY!!! And, I would like your avatar posterized, PLEASE.
rogers71,
Search for Vida Guerra. I'm sure you can find those pix.
i was worried about the same thing but judging from peoples reactions of the demo it looks like i was wrong.
hopefully i am because if heavy rain is a massive success than hopefully other developers will dare to follow suit, and it will increase sonys confidence on quantic dream.
this is one of those games that really needs to sell well, so guys forget bioshock 2, dantes inferno, AVP, MAG, forget EVERYTHING! this is the game you need to get this month.
i will personally come door to door handing out fines to anyone who does not buy heavy rain.
fair warning!
hello …
already pre-ordered the SE, can't wait for the release.
now i'll find a real challenge, with emotions & mature concept … "je serais aux anges"
cheers!
sorry but I will not forget Dantes Inferno, im going to enjoy both games! I pre-ordered HeavyRain on Amazon weeks ago and currently im working on Dantes Inferno.. this game has really been overlooked… sadly.
Congrats Heavy Rain! This is the first time in a long time something deserved gets what's due.
Let the Reign begin. 😉
even though i love the demo i probably only be renting this game only cause i already pre-order gow 3.but i do know this game will probably sell but not as much as QD or Sony want.cause there's alot of people who love the game and think how the gameplay/story is a wonderful masterpiece and other just thinks its boring and waste of time.

I stopped pre-ordering games in the 1990s ! I did pre-order GT 5 and FF 13 because I know they won't be on store shelves long !
