Activision “Really Bullish” On This Year’s Call Of Duty

You're totally surprised. Admit it.

Infinity Ward, developer of last year's ridiculously popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , has said they want to pursue other projects but it doesn't really matter; it ain't their turn, anyway. Traditionally, the CoD baton should pass back to Treyarch, who gave us what is arguably the best WWII shooter ever in 2008; Call of Duty: World at War . We're not sure if they're behind the next project but at the very least, Activision has indeed confirmed that yet another entry in the long-running and critically acclaimed franchise will release in 2010. This according to an earnings call with the publisher, when they unsurprisingly reported record revenues for 2009. Activision Publishing boss Mike Griffith acknowledged that MW2's success "was unprecedented" but they still expect a "more difficult competitive environment in 2010." Furthermore, they're really pushing hard on this new project, as Griffith said, "we're really bullish on this year's title." Well, there's no doubt that it'll sell very well, even if it doesn't turn out to be as good as MW2. There are simply too many die-hard fans out there and millions will once again flock to pick up the next Call of Duty .

But Griffith is right about a "more difficult competitive environment," because 2010 has already seen some super fine titles, and many more are on the way. Well, either you step up or you sit down…and Activision typically steps up.

LOL! No LV, I'm really old skool.

Think Doom (original Shareware….) Wolfenstien 3D and Duke Nukem. I never got into Half Life at all.

I had to play Doom and Doom2 on my friends PC. My parents wouldn't let me play it on the family PC (I didn't have my own back then). I looked forward to the weekends when I'd crash at his house and we'd be up all night playing Doom and King's Quest V.

*sighs* Another year, another cod… Every year around the period it's released all the blind fans run to the store, get their copy and can't talk or play anything else than that same thing everytime. All the other games that release during that period are neglected by that crowd, and under sell, even though those games are most likely better. It's not just that I don't like the game since I suck at it, it's also that it steal the limelight which should've been for other games. I'm glad that Uncharted 2 deserved it back, except at gametrailers, where they even gave the best-Ps3 game award to cod…

Screw Activision, they were great once, when they were about the games, now it just seems to be about the money and it shows!

I've seen a lot of FPS's. I even enjoy some FPS's. However, I don't need a FPS from the same franchise every year with pretty much the same enemies. I remember another article where people suggested what Activision should do with their shooter titles. Some suggestions were to take the ammo and all into outer space. This for one would be a decent idea that I would enjoy much more than killing human beings all the time on our home planet.

Why not do something more interesting and more fantasy or sci-fi oriented. I'm just tired of the same-old kill the terrorists, destroy the opposing enemies in the war type deal. What Activision needs is a broader approach to it's games in the COD series. But that's just my opinion though.
