I was planning to give you a hands-on look at Aliens vs. Predator last week but that didn't happen. Why? Because I couldn't get into a game in the multiplayer demo, that's why.
And I was hardly the only one to experience these matchmaking issues with the PS3 demo, which is why developer Rebellion has apologized for the problem. But while they continue to seek for a solution, these issues could be "ongoing." The demo experienced a similar drawback on Steam but they quickly issued a patch that fixed things; the Xbox 360 version appears to remain unaffected. So yet again, PS3 owners are left out in the cold when it comes to such technical shortcomings; the following is a statement made by Rebellion:
"The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday's issues for many.
We're really sorry that this issue tainted a day in which we saw many people get hands-on with AVP for the first time and we're hugely gratified by the positive feedback to the game."
You know, that's not really what upsets me. What upsets me is this new trend of releasing demos that are only multiplayer and don't allow a single person to sample anything. This happened with the Army of Two: The 40th Day demo, too, and I didn't bother waiting to get into a game for that one, either. I'm well aware of the fact that too many people can't seem to live without multiplayer, but to completely ignore the single-player aspect of a game is insanely annoying. In the future, companies that see fit to only provide us with a multiplayer demo of a game won't exactly take priority. They don't need hands-on views, anyway, right? "Everybody" only cares about multiplayer. 'rolling eyes'

My thought exactly. Although not for this reason. I wanted to like this game, but…i can't.
I really don't care to hear his apology.
I have this game pre-ordered, and now I am thinking about not buying this title.
To go along with what Ben said, I agree, the demo should of featured singleplayer action.
But hey, when titles like COD MW2 sell in the millions, what's a game developer to do?
I had fun with this demo the species where overall balanced the marines are not as underpowers as most people think in a group they would kill almost anything, the predator is arguably the most powerful species with it's secondary weapons almost always one hit kills, the aliens are fast and can crawl anywhere but they don't have as much health as the other species. The aliens don't "slide on ice" you just need to get the feel of them.
This just goes to show that developers are catering to the "twitch gamers" and the "What have you done for me lately" attitude.
It seems like more and more people are developing attention deficit disorder. You not only see it in gaming, where it has to be MP to keep someone playing, but you also see it in other areas. Such as sports, gone are the days where a coach can lead a team for more than 5 or 6 years without winning a championship. There are exceptions to the rule obviously.
Single player will always be there of course, but it seems like everyone needs the instant gratification of Multiplayer to feel like they are accomplishing anything. It is a sad commentary on the human condition if you ask me.

As every game doesn't need multiplayer, it can be a nice addition. So after ages of waiting I tried the AvP Demo, and to be honest I think its awful. I know demos do not do the game justice usually but really, its not fun. Back to what I was typing, I see MP as a nice addition, just a bit of replay value, but mostly I prefer Co-op instead of competitive, people just mouthy and angry online these days. Or maybe with crap shooters like MW2.
heh, i just assumed it was because the demo was new and there wasn't many games to join. Either way i deleted it shorty after playing it. Game had potential but the game play mechanics seemed out dated.
No aim down the iron sights? really?
Me and 2 other ppl played Friday (3 total duh) on the demo; overall Friday played 3 straight ours from 4AM til 7 when I had to go to work. had HELLLLLA fun. Saturday 5 hrs + varying groups of ppl minimum 2 max 8 (a couple of times it said we had too many ppl and I had to remove party members to keep it under 9) 2 out of 20-30 ppl that played it didnt like the control scheme (can't make every 1 happy) majority of every 1 WANTS this game just from the demo alone!!!! including me. for the demo, it even has mic support (for the record i haven't been able to use my PS eyecam mic on any game except this!!!! but it's a demo and the mic worked. scarey momemnts when species war is going on and every 1 is massacreing each other. while u are killing some 1 – some 1 sneeks u from behind and u take it up the tailpipe!!! 🙁 game is BEASSSST – a must buy imo.
in addition. final game has multiplayer & 3 single player campaigns (marine/alien/predator) yall stop crying because the demo wasn't single player (IT'S A DEMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) yeesh
@Vell, try re-reading our posts again & again till you're fully able/or willing, to comprehend us.
Nobody's complaining about there being no SP mode IN THE GAME!
"WE'RE COMPLAINING BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE A SP MODE IN THE"DEMO", especially since some of us rather not play MP modes.
Understand yet?
@BikerSaint,
I think Vell is one of the aforementioned "Twitch gamers" with Attention Deficit Disorder. You can't expect someone to read all the posts, I mean that would be way too hard and take way too much time. Right?
How do you let a mulriplayer demo go out without realizing the mathmaking dosent work?! fail, I wont buy a game that is this poorly put together… its a stiff market, get it right the first time especially the demo that is to sell the game to the masses
@rogers71,
LOL
Yeah, I think you've hit the nail dead center, & I just noticed how he writes, yup, just like one of those overly-excited tween's just like the 7 year old in the apt above mine, that's always got to be banging on something as he races from one room to another all frigging day long.
It there ever was a good reason for a industrial strength R/X of Ridilin, he is it!
