PSXE Poll Update: Gamers Split On FFXIII Skepticism

The news has been bombarded with disappointment and negative feedback concerning Final Fantasy XIII , although there remains a strong, loyal following that claims the skepticism is unfounded.

Depending on how you interpret the poll results, it seems our readers are mostly split on the issue. While the majority say all that bad talk hasn't affected them in the slightest, the remaining votes were split almost evenly through the three remaining options. This can only mean that the negative articles have indeed had an impact; without such questioning commentary, it's almost inevitable that just about everyone would've remained totally psyched for the game's US release in March. While we believe some of the hate really is unfounded, the loss of towns is especially irksome and we're actually starting to wonder what makes FFXIII an "RPG" besides gaining experience. Following a story, no exploration of a world map or towns, gaining abilities at various points (save points, in this case)…how is that much different than God of War or another action-based game? We're not saying it doesn't deserve to be a role-playing game but it almost appears as if Square-Enix wants to leave those distinct RPG elements behind…

Heavy Rain will be a hot topic this week – the embargo lifts on the 10th – so we're wondering if you think the anti-game freaks will crawl out of the wordworks. As we know, there's almost full nudity in the game and of course, because only kids play video games, we just can't have this. So, have the naysayers grown up or are they going to have a hissy fit?

If playing a PS3 game, means the development time for graphics takes too long. I rather play a PS2.5 game and get the FULL game instead.

i finally bothered to watch some gameplay on youtube and i think i'm gonna buy it on day 1 because it seems like the "no towns" issue is similar to how linear final fantasy X is… and i logged over a hundred hours playing that game.

Im still getting it even though ive grown a tad sour on it. Need me some Final Fantasy. While it probably will not be the game i wanted or expected from Square, im sure it will still be fun a experience.

While the game design seems to have been tailored around disc swapping, at least were getting the version with the best video and audio. Thank you Blue Ray.

with all these news about final fantasy, it kind of make me think that they didnt really put much faith in XIII from the beginning. Its just another final fantasy that they thought they must churn out. if its quality suffers then its no big deal. I mean why else would they announce two final fantasy games with the same numerals. at least in X-2s case, X came out first before info of x-2 but news for VSXIII already came out and XIII wasnt even out yet.

Lets hope Versus XIII stays exclusive and blows XIII out of the water.

Not if Wada can do something about it.
After all, Wada is still Nomura's superior.

I havent really cared about what people said about it because im still buying it day 1. What disturbs me is the news floating around that there might be DLC for this game. Add that to their admittance of a games worth of removed content and im just disappointed now.

Of course and i wouldnt be surprised if MS said "hey, sorry you had to cut out content because your couldnt fit it on our DVD's, to make up for it, do what we do and SELL IT!!"

Ben, I'm with you all the way with your article. I'm interested to see what this game has to offer, but I don't quite understand how SE comes out of the woodwork talking down console(s?) and their intensive needs to produce towns. HELLLO!!! It's taken them HOW many years to produce this game and they short us our towns and maps to rummage?! How sad, man..

I don't get it. It may not stop me from buying it, but I'll be one of the guys who'll wait until it's aged enough to be a good fetch at a gamestop price.

Although, maybe your eventual review of the game may spark my immediate interest again. Especially since I know you're finky about what I am in this game.

Im going to make a prediction. That 1st 20 hours of the game thats "very linear" and lacks proper towns, money says that thats the entire 1st disc on the Xbox. i bet when the games "opens up more" as some of said after the 1st 20 or so hours will be on disc two.

I hope SE didn't make FFXIII too easy.

Auto heal after each battle is fine but from what I heard this time we shop from the menu?

In FFXII some times a journey takes a very long time I had to conserve my potions because there's no vendor until I find one.

I bet SE is gonna advertise the new shopping system as "ANYTIME ANYWHERE"

as long as its pretty much the same auto healing as white knight chronicles i wont mind. WKC autohealing heals you out of battle over time and not just full health right away.

hello,

Im new here on PSXE, so dont crucify me when i say this but, i don't see what the big deal is about no towns. I personally play ff games because i know a ff usually provides me some of the best storytelling in gaming. So after watching the first 5 chapters on youtube i can honestly say that i love what they did with xiii. they made it more story driven. and the battle system looks way better. there is a lot more action going on. people actually move around and not just stand like statues waiting on someone to attack. as i said earlier i play ff games for their story, and to me the town sections were always getting interrupting it. i hate walking around talking to 10 or so random npcs just to find the right one who tells me what to do next.

Once your main character dies, game over even if your allies have full health.
