John-ShepardWhile it's true that many PlayStation 3 owners are anxiously awaiting the Heavy Rain demo that will hit the PSN next week, there's a good reason to log on today, too.
It could very well be the sleeper hit of the month: Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator . We've been hearing a lot about this game over the past few months; the seven great online multiplayer modes, the depth provided by three distinct species, and the nostalgia of the great AvP Atari Jaguar title following us around. But many have adopted a "wait and see" philosophy for this next-gen take on a classic, which is why they need to try out the demo that drops on the Store today. It's a multiplayer demo that gives you access to the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien, although you will be limited to Deathmatch mode on one map; the Refinery. It's hardly surprising that a FPS has a multiplayer focus, although we're definitely counting on a robust single-player mode. Said Jason Kingsley, Rebellion CEO:
"Multiplayer was a huge part of our original AVP game back in 1999, and we've kept the spirit of that classic experience in creating the multiplayer for our new Aliens vs Predator. With the demo now gamers can get to grips with each of the three iconic species so they can hone their skills and be ready for when the game launches and battle commences."
Yeah, well, we still say the "original" came well before 1999, but whatever. Download the demo and see what you think; you just might need your shooter fix, what with the likes of Heavy Rain , Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III on the horizon.

We need to somehow start boycotting all this Multiplayer madness.
It's a lot harder to control the aliens now than it used to be. And they lowered their speed down considerably so it takes a lot more skill to play them now. Definitely more of a challenge this time around. Haven't played the other two races yet, but I'll do that tomorrow. Still a day one purchase now after trying it.
DL'ed it today. Like the others, I tried for about 10 minutes to connect but I can't even get into a single damn game. Was so excited to try this 🙁
On a side note: I also downloaded BF:BC2 MP demo. I wasn't overly impressed. The vehicle controls felt like driving cardboard tanks/copters. Sure it had that BF1943 feeling of massiveness (demo maps were large) but the amount of time travelling just so a hidden sniper picks you off then travel back again to get picked by another sniper. Yep the map I got to try was huge, but it was huge in terms of length. The width wasn't. So snipers had the advantage when people came to close in. I think I'll just go buy MAG now..
completely agree with you on both demo's ..MAG looks like the only viable option right now.
im dissapoint with the ps3 system at the moment seems to me the game thats made any attempt at utilising the hardware is killzone2

First time I slipped KZ2 in MP (also SP), was instantly wowed by the genuineness of the battle atmosphere. The only thing I didn't like bout KZ2 was the ditzy sound when you killed someone (kinda out of place, IMHO)
