The idea that Square-Enix is currently working on a remake of Final Fantasy VII may survive amongst the die-hard fans but in reality, it just isn't happening. Let's face up to facts.
S-E never talks about it much but when they do, it's always something bad. In a recent Ultimania magazine interview – summarized at The Lost Gamer – it seems that Motomu Toriyama, director for Final Fantasy XIII , directly referenced the difficulty in making a FFVII remake happen. By now, we know the reason there are no towns in FFXIII is due to the difficulty in creating fully-HD towns for the PS3, and this can be related to a FFVII project. Said Toriyama:
"This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not. It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time."
We've actually heard this before. Several years back, when Yoshinori Kitase was approached with the same ol' question, he tried to get the interviewer to understand just how much work would be involved with a FFVII remake. S-E has always said it would be a downright massive undertaking, one that could take a huge amount of time and require a gigantic amount of resources. …we still say they'd make all that money back but perhaps we're wrong. Either way, it's just another sign that the long-awaited remake just won't happen.
Yeeeoooshimitsu !!

well then they are not good at managing there resources. all they have to do is use the latest engine and add the models and stuff. I think there plain lazy as all ways.
That's one thing that was great about Demon's Souls, No Towns. I hate towns who needs them talking to all the useless townsfolk & walking I hate all the walking. I say just leave out towns just give us our next quest scenario in a cut scene & get back into the action. The things that bored me so much with Dragon Age were too many dialogue choices & different results, I hate reloading saves to improve the outcome, too much walking with no combat & action that was always interrupted by boring town exploration & overly long cut scenes.Remember Shining in the Darkness? No Towns, just a wizard who upgraded your weapons & spells then back to the action.

Well can't they just make like a "Remastered" edition for re-release? Basically like the GOW1+2 has been redone?
I don't need FFXIII graphics and all that. Just a nice smooth upgrade or something that should be too hard to do.
But I guess the gaming community would rather let it be on that BIG scale I would just like to play it again (with slightly jacked up visuals and gameplay)…
And no towns in FFXIII??? What? Really?
I just wish they'd at least make something like they did with the Technical Demo for PS3 a long time ago, but playable. It doesn't even have to be the whole game, that's how desperate I am
