What could very well be Square-Enix's most mature role-playing title thus far now has a solidified release date for North America.
Previously, we had learned Nier would definitely arrive in the US some time this spring but now, the official press release says it will land on store shelves on April 27. It will be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and this action/RPG is destined to turn a few heads, especially long-time Square followers who haven't seen this adult-oriented side of the company before. Developed by Cavia, Inc., Nier combines an engaging, twisting storyline with in-depth character development and features the main character Nier, who is seeking a cure for his stricken daughter, Yonah. The Black Scrawl is threatening to spread quickly and Nier must battle the dark, mystical creatures that have arisen due to this plague. Can he save his daughter and himself? Gain the help of powerful allies, unleash brutal combos via insane physical and magical attacks, and explore a world wrought with strife and sorrow. For more information and media, visit the game's official site ; it boasts new screens and the trailer that debuted at last year's Tokyo Game Show.
Square-Enix is coming hard with the games in the first part of 2010; in addition to Nier , we know Front Mission Evolved is also on the list, and so is Final Fantasy XIII . Which will you play?
Related Game(s): Nier
If it were Nier replicant I would be more interested but this one isn't really on my radar
Parasite Eve was quite adult-oriented, no? Speaking of which, now there's a series that I think Square needs to give a new sequel to.
Nier's videos made it look interesting. I won't mind trying this in April. By that time, I should be all caught up on hurricane of games nailing me in February and March.
Parasite Eve is getting a game on PSP, though I would prefer a real one on PS3.
That was blown out of proportion. A lone, half-blurry shower scene doesn't really make a game mature.
I will play FFXIII for sure, this Nier deal I am skeptical about. I'm thinking it might wind up another one of their genre bending (and in this case gender bending) messes. But I'll keep an open mind . . . that means I'll read PSXE's review.
Could work, seems a little swishy though.
OK World,
I am going to petition that you be renamed "Man with a thousand avatars".
I don't think changing your avatar is going to stop your 'thumb down stalkers'. haha
silence
Well I am definetly playing FFXIII. Neir sounds really interesting, I will probably rent it with in the first week and then if it sucks me in, I will go and buy it. Front Mission Evolved is not on my radar, probably because I haven't heard much about it.

Well, considering how I feel about FFXIII and Nier, if anything it'll have to be Star Ocean 4 and Front Mission Evolved…
I'll probably play all three starting with Final Fantasy of course with the others somewhere down the line. I'd rather have Nier Replicant but this one will have to do I guess. And I'm still not happy they took the turn based gameplay out of Front Mission 🙁
Something tells me the character development in Nier isn't going to be THAT in-depth. The game looks superb graphically, but the story and characters seem a little nonsensical.
I agree. But I'm willing to give them the benifit of the doubt atm…
I too would rather play Nier replicant first but this will have to do I suppose.
I might buy it fot the fact that it is action/RPG, and maybe it is like Kingdom Hearts in terms of gameplay
I don't know…. I'm just sticking with FFXIII. This just looks like a hack-n-slash with some extra magical aspect and "rpg" features (which I still haven't heard what's so rpg about it.
What on Earth is Front Mission evolved?
*sidenote* The ninja blade returns!
noticed that…. Dante didn't last long.
Hope your playthrough of DI lasts a bit longer.
Oh I'm still stoked for it, but I needed a placeholder until I could get another photo. My camera is kind of a piece of sh*t. I had Dante up about a month so I doubt my playthrough will last that long 🙂

Nice blade….hahah
Hey watch it or you'll taste the blade 🙂
I watched both trailers on the site. Although the JP version does look better, it looks like it might be decent.
Given the fact the SE is a hallow shell of its former self, I'm taking a wait and see approach. I need to see more of it before I decide.
Off-topic:
Anyone seen the White Knight Chronicles IGN review? It reads like they played the first 3 hours of the game, slapped a low-score on it, and then went to the bank with their paycheck.
I'll have the game in my hands in a few hours, I'll try and let you guys know what I think of it sometime tomorrow.

I'm delaying WKC until after the deluge. The reviews are very mixed for it. I would have bought the game if it came out in December but before the deluge, I think I will wait.
I noticed that the fool who reviewed it (Ryan Clements) is trying to defend his work. IGN proves once again that they are a joke and anybody who pays $20 to use their premium message boards doesn't know any better. Yet another website filled with "smack-talking 13 year old boys".

Arvis,
I'm not too concerned about the reviews. Reviewers in general tend to be pretty harsh towards jrpgs.
Please let me know what you think though. I'm still waiting on my Amazon shipment.
If we happen to both be on at the same time, feel free to send me an invite.

Well, yeah, that review was cloudy, all it really did was rip on your basic jrpg staples that have been around for years. Though I haven't played the game so I can't say if it blows or not, I think I'll wait for the PSXE review and trust that. I agree with brighat, sounds like this guy spent about 20 minutes on it.
I've put 12+hrs into WKC so far and I'm really enjoying it. Sure the graphics are dated and the characters can be meh but I'm loving the gameplay. If you enjoyed FF12's battles than you'll enjoy WKC.
So far I am also enjoying it a lot. The only thing that even bothers me a little is the battle system but I might enjoy it a bit more as I get used to it.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I can't wait to finally play it.
You the man LimitedV, u da man!
why does anybody care about a game that is look crappy and probably play the same..
anyone else think that the monster in the pick for this looks like a guy in a rubber godzilla suit jumping at the character
meh after the poor attitude and constant rubbish they have given us, $E are going to have to move hell and earth before i ever buy another one of their games.
