We freely admit that game journalists often read too much into simple statements for the sake of good headlines and extra traffic. …but sometimes, it's just plain fun .
The big rumor now is that Epic Games and Platinum Games may be collaborating on a project destined to turn plenty of heads. As noted by Examiner.com , there are a couple pieces of evidence that could point towards a unique partnership between the two talented studios in question. The first clue comes from GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley's Twitter page , where he said: "Watch on Thursday night and you tell me, but it's a big Epic title!" He keeps teasing some big unveiling this week and the fact that "Epic" is capitalized could mean something. At about the same time, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski added an update to his Twitter page : "Keep your eyes open for 'megaton face melting news.'" Okay, we've got Platinum Games, responsible for the recent Bayonetta , and Epic, creators of the critically acclaimed Gears of War and Unreal franchises…what might such a collaboration produce? Maybe Bayonetta has a steamy tryst with Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Maybe the latter suddenly have to stop the witch's antics, which have gotten out of hand.
Yeah, obviously, those two games won't blend but like I said earlier, it's fun to think about. The real question is, might this be the real deal and if so, what are they making together? Well, whatever it is, we get the distinct feeling we'll have to recommend a Xbox 360 purchase; the PS3 version of Bayonetta fell far short in comparison to the superior 360 version and Epic has been working with 360 hardware for years. But when two studios come together, you never know what can happen…
This news just does not interest me. As you said, Epic just cannot handle the PS3 architecture. Cliffy B. is a straight XBOT and is too lazy to make an effort with the PS3.
Maybe collaborating with a another developer is just what Epic needs but I doubt it.
Well he 's collaborating with another lazy developer ,so lets see how that turns out.maybe they need two sets of brains to work around the ps3.
Well, Marcus and Dom are confirmed to be playable in Lost Planet 2…. but only on the Xbox version. (obviously)
So, I'm thinking whatever the collaboration is between Platinum Games and Epic Games (especially with CliffyB voicing something), will mean that it will also be an Xbox exclusive.
PS3 fans… no news here… move long…
Yes, I see these two companies and their lazy programmers working on an Xbox 360 exclusive. Might as well develop it on the console that has been maxed out; even if the stupid Xbots won't admit it.

They really should stick to the 360 if all they're going to do is make a junky PS3 port. But at the same time, it's a chance for both studios to make more money…
Epic might be perfectly happy with keeping Gears exclusive to the 360 but what about other projects…?
Wasn't there recent talks by analysts saying that epic would regret not making their games multi-platform?
Like you say, they have to keep gears exclusive, but new games can be multiplat.
@ ophidian
Epic has said "No we don't regret signing exclusivity", but I wouldn't expect them to admit it if they did, at least not until years down the road anyway. They have been close with Microsoft for a long time.
Why all the negative comments everyone?
i think of this positive and im nearly 100 percent sure it wont be exclusive just because of the fact that the ps3 has been selling amazingly and if its a new ip i doubt they'd send it to only one system unless Microsoft has something to do with it
Five comments does not equal "everyone."
At the time he posted I'm pretty sure he was referring to those that had posted before him, thus everyone applies.
Is it even a PS3 game? Watch it be another Xbox exclusive.
I'm sure of something..its going to be a weird game.
I think this has the potential to be something good as long as it is built with multiplatform gaming in mind from the start. If is going to be ported afterwards they might as well forget it.
Well one things for sure if Epic does the character design then you can expect a bunch of steroid freaks for characters. I think that's the only character design template they have at Epic.
Marcus and Dominic better not cross swords…..if ya know what I mean.
Maybe Epic needs Platinum to develop a woman character so they can be like the other M$ game.
Anyone against this is a fool. More developers jumping on the PS3 bandwagon is good news, not bad. I may not like what they've done for the 360 but I'm at least willing to give them a chance when it comes to the PS3.
LV is right. No body said anything when Bioware hit the PS3 with Dragon Age. So why now bout these devs.
Any way LV has a good point. Any devs wanting to jump on the PS3 are not only helping bring new games to the PS3 but are smart for trying to tackle the PS3, hardware. It obviously pays off for a lot of devs. and ultimately us as gamers.
Studios collaborating?
Yes I'm listening.
Platinum and Epic?
*Click the top right corner*
People who bad mouth Epic should be lined up and shot. I think they've been around long enough and put out enough games and game engines to at least earn some respect from the gaming community. You don't like FPSs? Fine, but if you're a gamer, whether you like it or not, Epic has, down to this day, had a HUGE influence on what we play.
"People who bad mouth Epic should be lined up and shot."
Damn dude, I don't even go that far.
@Alienage,
This isn't the first time I have disagreed with you and I am sure it won't be the last.
Until Epic and Cliffy B. can show me that they have what it takes to put out an 'EPIC' game on the PS3 instead of some shoddy port that you know wasn't worth the effort, then I will bash on Epic.
You may have liked what they have done on the 360 and PC (won't disagree with you there) but until they can show some ability to branch out and develop on a platform they are not used to, I will continue to be on the 'hate' wagon.
I for one would love to see more companies line up for Sony but only if they are willing to put in the work. Don't just release a game for the PS3 because you can get more money.
@ rogers71 – It's not like Epic refuses to release software for the PS3. In fact when creating the UT3 engine the PS3 was mentioned as one of the reasons for the upgrade.
To hate on Epic for "shoddy ports" doesn't make sense. We got the superior version of Unreal Tournament 3 and PS3 didn't get the Gears games.
What we DO have, is developers using the UT3 engine to make some VERY good games. Batman and Borderlands for example. Both of which are not shoddy ports.
I'm not sure you were there during the whole Quake vs Unreal stuff, but if it wasn't for Epic and their Unreal engine, gaming would not have advanced as quickly as it did.
Of course you can feel free to hate them if that's how you feel. But disrespect them? That's not right.
You have a point with Batman. I loved that game and still think it deserved more awards than what it received. Didn't care too much for Borderlands though.
I missed the interview where they said the PS3 was the reason for UT3 but if you look at any interview with Cliffy B., it is pretty much all XBOX love and putting down the PS3. That is where my disdain comes from. I was gaming when the 'engine wars' were going on but I was pretty much into Nintendo and didn't pay much attention to PC gaming at that time.
You make some good points, I will give you that. Personally, I didn't like Unreal Tournament 3 so I cannot back you on that one.
Guess we will just have to see what the future holds for EPIC and SONY.
hopefully it would be a ps3 exclusive.
my favorite FPS developer, with my favorite action game developer.
did i die and go to heaven?
