Metal Gear Solid 4 Revealed

During a special presentation at the Tokyo Game Show today, Konami and Hideo Kojima unveiled a 9-minute video promoting the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 game. Sort of.

The video mainly contained brief clips of footage interwoven into a conversation between Snake and Otacon, wherein they proclaim Sony's Cell processor as key to controlling the world.

Non-comedy footage showed Snake fighting costumed soldiers in a war-ravaged city, reminiscent of Delta Force or Halo 2… very bombed out, very debris filled. The video opens with a first-person view of a soldier, who is quickly dispatched by one of Snake's CQC combat attacks. Then the view switches to third-person and follows Snake as he CQC's and shoots other soldiers with various weapons, most notably an M-16 and FAMAS. Judging from the looks of it, the PS3's horsepower is being put into animating every hair on Snake's head, every heat trail from the gun muzzle, and a veritable potpourri of smoke and dust effects.

From information already released, we know that events in the game take place many years after Metal Gear Solid 2, and that Snake and Otacon are much older. Snake has a clear Sean Connery vibe to him, which you'll see once we get some screen captures up. (Keep checking the front page for those)

One useful tidbit did come from the presentation, the game's subtitle. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will ship for the PlayStation 3 sometime in 2006.
