John-ShepardTurn-based strategy aficionados won't be too happy with the new direction, but it fits in well with a more mainstream audience.
Up until now, the Front Mission games have been turn-based strat/RPGs, playing like Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre or Disgaea . But with Front Mission Evolved , Square-Enix has taken the series into the realm of the standard third-person shooter; it'll feature both real-time mech and human action. You should check out the new World of Tomorrow Trailer , as it features plenty of great gameplay footage from both human and mech perspectives. Now, according to GameSpot , we've learned that Evolved will launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this spring. If you're willing, you will step into the able shoes of Dylan Ramsey, an engineer who sets out to pursue a terrorist organization. We're seeing fast-paced action that should spread across a variety of war-torn locales, which means it should be in direct competition with Lost Planet 2 . Mech titles haven't fared as well in the US as they have in Japan and critics have often had problems with slow, clunky controls, but we have high hopes for this fresh Front Mission .
Fans of the franchise might not be too interested but Square-Enix is all about appealing to a wider demographic these days. Let's hope they get this one right.

So Armored Core, but with some humans? How many franchises does SE want to destroy?

This is definitely a wait and see for me. Still, I do love me some giant robots. If the controls are anything like Shogo was for the PC or ZOE for PS2 I'll happily apply.

It's true, it looks a lot more like Shogo than it does a ZOE game. I'm just hoping that somehow, someone will make a mech game that doesn't have the terrible controls of Armored Core and the like.
I'm starting to think that turn based games are going to be come a thing of the past the way things are going.
This new western direction that SE seems to be taking loosely translates into "games for people with the attention span of a goldfish"
I for one am sad to see this genre slowly fading away. Long complicated games that require attention to detail are slowly fading out to big flashy games with less substance to them.
I would say more but something shiny caught my eye and I have to go now…

I don't think I'll miss it as long as it "feels" like Front Mission. Gotta give me those RPG moments. Borderlands proved that it can change RPGs for the better if you do it right (or ..moderately right depending on who you're talking to)
Anyways, wasn't interested at all until recently. Loved FM 3 and 4 though.

Without the turn based gameplay, I'm going to consider this more of a spinoff of Front Mission than an actual entry in the series. Sure wish they would've brought the online game here.

Mainstream audiences suck!
After watching the TGS trailer for the game, I think I'll pick up the PC version. Though the turn based play is gone, if it's still as fun as the previous versions, then it'll be worth it I suppose.
