Ben-DutkaEver since the price drop last year, Sony has been pushing the PlayStation 3 harder than ever; those "It Only Does Everything" commercials are getting plenty of airtime.
As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , 2010 is really shaping up fast for the PS3. They remind us that December was the single biggest sales month in the console's history, and also the single highest month for PlayStation Network revenue. Senior Vice President of Marketing and the PSN, Peter Dille, also mentions the critical success of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and on that subject of big PS3 exclusives, he gives us a sneak peek at the new TV commercial for MAG . "It Only Does 256 Players" will be the theme for this one; Zipper Interactive's insanely ambitious MMOFPS (yeah, that's what we're calling it) will launch next week and if you've already tried the beta and enjoyed your time, it's a definite buy, right? For all those who aren't yet familiar with the game, funny guy Kevin Butler will certainly make it known in these new commercials. We need to see something from him for every new PS3 exclusive, as far as I'm concerned; they could do some seriously hilarious sh** in promoting Heavy Rain and God of War III . Which reminds me, while Sony is on the right track, they had best not forget about Heavy Rain …
So anyway, that's the new commercial you'll start seeing next week and it's bound to turn everyone's attention toward MAG . Promotion and marketing is kinda important.

Tried the beta and wasn't that fussed on it. None of my mates are getting it either.
I'm still trying to master MW2 online lol.
How about: It only does serial killings for Heavy Rain and It only does Epic scale awesomeness for god of war.
hmm, I agree with you TheHighlander, but since Kratos has been on previous playstation consoles (& handhelds), maybe Kratos only does Playstation is better?
These ads are some amazing quality advertising, target's the key demographics very well. Damn shame they get next to no air time in the UK. it would really get word around over here.

Hope to see this soon, preferably breaking up the Mass Effect 2 commercials where the people's lips don't even match the voices.
While the beta didn't blow me away I'm remaining open to reviews and the like. There is just too much to buy right now so it must settle on the back burner for now.
Glad you noticed that too. The one with the bald chick is SOOOOOOOOOO annoying. Her lips don't even come close to matching the words. That and she looks like Kanye's butch gf.

I'll pass on the game, not really my type of thing, but these "it only does …" tv commercials are good fun.
I think they would do well in Australia but Ive never seen them other than on the 'net.
I really hope this game pans out. As Highlander and others have said, the concept of a semi-structured battle royale with more than 100 teammates against a human team with just as many players just sounds terrific. But are the graphics up to par? Is it as fun in practice as in theory? Is there ANY plot line whatsoever? And if not, does the game benefit or lose from that? Mass Effect 2 comes out next week too, but I'll make time for MAG if it's worth it…
Yeah they had BEST NOT forget about Heavy Rain.
It looks like Sony feel Heavy Rain's already established and marketed itself due to positive hands-on reviews whiles MAG on the other hand its not totally welcomed by all so they think they need to push it hard. And this is were they fail, they need to add more hype to Heavy Rain, damn!
MAG is kinda lackluster. while it makes you THINK 256 players is the best thing to happen since the beatles, the truth IS, you will never, EVER see that many players on screen at once. it will only seem more like 30 vs. 30 matches, and we've seen that before. this game will be average to slightly above average at BEST.
Er…playing a beta means you're playing with a tiny fraction of the people who will eventually play the full game online.
I could've sworn that was common knowledge. Trust me, there will most certainly be maps with over 200 people on them within a month of MAG's release.
gee booze925, u surely sound like you've beat the whole game & got a platinum already. Although I do understand your judgement is probably based on the demo, I don't think that should be enough to say that the game itself is lackluster. "it will only seem more like 30 vs. 30 matches". Ummm, so your ruling out the possibility of you playing against a 132-man clan that roam the battlefield together? It seems like your idea of multiplayer is scripted, because when I play multiplayer in any game, it definetely is never the same experience every time, & I doubt it'll be any different with this game.

second, yes i am. the screen LITERALLY cant take that many people at once. i played and beat the sh** out of 2 betas, and i NEVER saw more than 40 ppl at once on my screen. it is an average game

Regardless my experience wth the beta, im very excited about this game from two standpoints.
This game could help Sony tremendously if it excells as a great online FPS. It need to live up the the potential it has of cours. But this could be that FPS that lets Sony have room to talk about it having great FPS. I know the Resistance series is great, and KZ2 was amazing. But people still look at the xbox and say tis has the best FPS. I know I know you all want RPG's, as do I, and M$ can have the FPS. Well this day and age games are selling consoles, and Sony isnt known for the FPS.
Second Every time i hear about this game I get excited. My initial response to the beta was, this wont work with people not using mics, and the chaos that persues when peple just start playing deathmatch. With that said I cant help be excited for how this game should be played, and how it will turn out! Ill end up breaking and purchasing it, I know already!
I hope this does well. I haven't really looked into MAG that much but what can I say, shooters sell. Massively Multiplayer Online Shooters outsell. Here's to another successful franchise! Wait, you said it ONLY does EVERYTHING. Hehe…clever.
Im honestly just not feeling MAG, tried the beta and I just find myself back on MW2…
Ben if MAG does well I will be surprised. But from what I have played and many others who I speak to outside of here they all hate it. Not one person I know is going to buy this.
Everyone of my friends is not going to buy this after trying the beta. Ok I said to them ok it is a beta etc and they said im not that bothered about it to be honest. They dont get it im sure as hell not gonna get it. Why would I want to play online with a bunch of strangers when I can do that on any other game ? Ok I cant play 128 against 128 but who cares lets be honest people here.

You can't say it's an average game though booze925. No matter how many times you "beat the sh**" out of the beta. & hmm, since you won't see 256 players on the screen at the same time, that makes it an average game? I don't quite understand your logic. Uncharted 2 supports 10 players, MW2 supports 18, Resistance 2 supports 60. But can you say that since you don't see 256 players on those screens, that the multiplayer of those games suck?

Does it do it well is the real question. And if the beta is any indication, it doesn't. Still lots of work that needs to be done to make a fully polished title.

the commercial is pretty sweet, i saw it about 5:40 this morning….
i have a feeling MAG is going to flop. hard.
i know the "256 players" is the focus, but the other things still need to be done well (the animations, especially the reloading, are crap).
i do like the commercial, though.
and i would KILL for a "VP First Person Shooter Relations" coffee mug.
It s more about a 32 vs 32 player game then anything else .
Since the console that you destroy (a-b-…-h )can be repaired , you re team is pretty much stuck attacking and defending the 2 console near you re spawn .
It would make more sense if it was not possible to repair the console you destroyed thus allowing you to go help another 32 player of you re team destroy their target .That way we would be able to see a real 128 vs 128 confrontation at some point.
I haven't played this game. I guess it isn't getting all the positive attention I thought it was gonna get. I'm more into a story than just multiplayer so this isn't exactly my thing. Well…oops, I dropped my glass, party's over people, pack it and go.
