Two quick things you need to know about Heavy Rain : as the developers have stated, it's a complete game that is not lacking any content but at the same time, the DLC will be most interesting in terms of storyline additions.
According to GamersMint citing a French source, an interview with Quantic Dream head man David Cage has revealed some details concerning Heavy Rain 's future downloadable content. This content, dubbed the "Heavy Rain Chronicles," will allow the player to see the plot from different angles and toss in some "behind-the-scenes" info as well. For instance, we'll learn how the character of Norman Jayden became addicted to the prescription drug Triptocaine, and we'll also follow journalist Madison Page in her investigation of a taxidermist, which also explains how she became an insomniac. But perhaps most interesting of all is the fact that you'll actually be able to step into the shoes of the villain, the Origami Killer. Basically, if you download the "Chronicles," you'll be able to see the events and circumstances that led the serial killer to a life of brutal crime. We can probably expect more for the other two main characters (Ethan Mars and Scott Shelby) but we don't have any details just yet.
However, Cage did say that each little back story adds about an hour of gameplay and each will be like a mini-prequel. Therefore, you're looking at somewhere around 4-5 hours of extra play time with this DLC and that's probably well worth it. We don't have a date for "Chronicles" just yet but Cage said it should be available to download "soon after" Heavy Rain releases at the end of February.
Related Game(s): Heavy Rain
These episodes are playable? That's great news. If you pre-order Heavy Rain at Amazon dot com, they give you Chapter 1: The Taxidermist and I thought that was just a video to watch. Do we know if this DLC is going to be free or if they will charge for it?
They will probably charge for it seeing as how a lot of man-hours and resources most likely went into developing these mini-prequels
If they are going to charge and it is planned I suggest delay the game and release it all at once like the good ole days. No one wants to hear about expensive DLC before the game is even released.
This game is gearing up to be on of the PS3's best:) I can't wait to play this David Cage is really putting his all into it.
Getting to know the background of the killer will be awesome, I think this is the first DLC I'll be buying… On the other side, I can imagine Fox news report: "Videogame clearly targeted towards children lets you be a serial killer and kill kids!!!!, apart from letting you see all the stripteases and lap dances you want!"
What is the world coming to?
What happened to a game coming out, and then months down the road, we hear of additional content in the form of DLC.
Now we are discussing DLC before the ACTUAL GAME has even come out?
Times are a changin'.
i agree completly, i doubt heavy rain uses the full 50gig of the blu ray, so why cant this content be on the game?? what happens if no one bothers buyin this game, isit worth making all of this DLC then?? put everything you wanna put in the game to make it the best game possible, then if the game sells well, make the DLC and release it then.
Yeah, I agree The problem is though that developers are seeing that DLC is a huge way to make extra money off a game. So much so that they seem to be designing games with that mentality in mind. You won't get the full game experience unless you buy the extras they offer.
There are two ways to look at it though. If you think of the price point for video games, they haven't changed much in a long time. Paying 60 bucks for a game has been the norm for a long time.
If the internet hadn't brought in the whole DLC generation, we would be running back out to the store in a few months more to drop extra cash on Heavy Rain: the Untold chronicles (or something like that)
DLC is a way to keep interest in the game going, but only to those who really want to know the whole story.
That being said I do feel a little annoyed when I do hear of DLC being available for a game that hasn't released yet, but I get the feeling that this is going to be the norm unless us consumer's stop buying DLC. Which I don't see happening anytime soon.

I agree with you, games should be released before DLC is even dicussed in the media but with day in age everybody wants to know what's going to happen tommorow today. But David Cage has said many times that the game is a complete story.
DLC needs to die.
I have a feeling this will be the last generation of gaming i take part in. Im getting sick of developers trying to nickel-and-dime us to death. I enjoy playing the old Metroid titles (super metroid ftw) and realizing that Ninendo put everything they had into the game. They could have easily left some stuff out, but they wanted to make sure we got everything we could possibly want in the game. Modern games feel like they are just a means to sell us more stuff.
At least Quantic didnt cut stuff out of the game in order to sell it back later (ACII, FF13, etc.

You guys read my mind. Didn't FF XIII get roasted here for similar reasons? Does this material have to be DLC because it wouldn't fit on the Blu-Ray? I doubt it.
They have this DLC primed and ready to go so that they can squeeze a few more dollars out of fans.
Promised DLC is also like holding out a carrot, so that the game doesn't get traded into GameStop as quickly.
Hezzron, that is an intersting take with your Gamestop theory. We all know game developers brown their underwear a little each time they think of Gamestop. It is money out of their pockets.
Tease the consumer, and give them a reason to keep the game, you have just cut into the used game market by a few percentage points.
@MyWorstNightmar – The "GameStop Effect" is probably why a lot of games are including online play as well, including many sequels that originally didn't have it.

For PC gamers DLC has always been viewed as a positive and a reason for gaming on PCs since it keeps games a live long after their initial release, plus they're almost always free. DLC on consoles is a perfect example of how not to do it.
I think it's just nice to have the option of a prequel, I mean it's not like you need it for the story of Heavy Rain, it's just as an add-on.
Just a thought…
Hopefully later on, this game will get GOTY & will wind up including all of those Chronicles in with it too.
I was thinking the same thing but I guess I would have to re-buy that edition as I really want to get this game and hit it up when it releases. I can't wait.
same here
Does anyone else get annoyed when devs talk about DLC before the game it is for is even out? I'm all for DLC, as long as the price is reasonable, but I just don't care about it before I even have the game. I don't know…it just annoys me a bit. Still very excited about this game though! Can't wait!
I watched one of the videos you posted last night guys, I went from on the fence to in the pool! This game is going to be awesome. Happy to see things moving forward with the Playstation.

I have to agree that discussing DLC before the game is even released is annoying. But it keeps the media and gamers interested. As they say: Any publicity is good publicity.
And from the business point of view. Quantic Dream is a team of people and they have their roles (programmers, graphic designers, testers etc.) Right now Heavy Rain is in the phase of final testing and polishing, or maybe even past all this – just waiting to be released. So they have to keep working on something new.
And since David Cage is obviously very proud about what they have achieved with Heavy Rain, he wants to extend it a bit and I don't blame him.
Take care
I hadn't thought of it like that! That does make a lot of sense. At least from Quantic Dream it doesn't feel like they are just doing it for money.
I'm thinking they are announcing this DLC before the game is out so that people who want to experience the whole story from the prequel to the end, they can download it before they begin the game. Personally I don't like the trend either, but such are the times we live in.
I will probably get these for that extra gameplay, but not until after I swap hard drives.
I gotta get a bigger HDD also before this game releases. Im looking forward to the new bigger HDD, but over the past few weeks ive deleted alot of stuff to make room for others. Owell problem soon solved!
With all the RPGs coming out lately calling for my cash this game is doing very little to make me want to buy it. I'll either rent or hold off until it is a lot cheaper.
I think the free dlc episode for HR is the worst pre-order bonus ever. What if you play the game and don't like it? What if you feel ripped off after 10 hours and you're done? Oh wait! DLC that has nothing to do with the main story! Rah rah!
I'd take a $20 gift card over free dlc any day. As for dlc that costs money well … No thanks.
yeah its like a gamble .
yeah I liked the game and have the dlc WIN!.
or
fuck I bought the game before read some reviews because I wanted to have the free dlc but I hate da gameplay.
i dont think you guys can read… this is still the full experience of the game
the DLC is back stories to OTHER CHARACTERS that doesnt really have anything to do with the story line
Josh, read again. Your "OTHER CHARACTERS that doesnt really have anything to do with the story line" statement is quite wrong. It also contradicts your previous line "this is still the full experience of the game."
I found the information above, and in the cited article, to be very clear.

You may need to familiarize yourself with what to expect from the gameplay, you play scenes in different peoples lives that are connected by the Origami Killer, the DLC is merely a prelude to these peoples stories.
I would liken it to the show LOST in concept now that I've heard what the DLC has to offer. You get their backstory, and also you get to see what made the Origami Killer who he is! I know the people who played Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit are chomping at the bit for this one (I'm definitely stoked!) I have to say when I found out about that, it made me think of playing as the Joker in B:AA how could would it be to see HIS backstory?
I dont do DLC, but Heavy Rain has me hooked, The Taxidermist scenario was what wheeled me in, i was devistated when they said it wouldnt be in the game, When the secnario's were announced i was so pleased :D, In the UK too, so i get the Taxidermist scene with the pre-order XD
Alot of the stores don't have pre-order codes yet. I need to reserve this soon!
I hate this talk about dlc before the game its out.
dlc should be announced like after 1 month the game got released.
Exactly! They should at least have the curtsy to lie to us about when the DLC was produced so that we don't feel ripped off!
I can't wait to play this game. I want to see it in real time on my 60 in Mitsubishi TV!
Nice, how about the sound system?
I really want to play this game, my girlfriend is loving the trailers and gameplay vids for this one. They should give us the DLC for the US collector's edition since we aren't getting one.

whos tryng to sell me dlc even bfore i seen the game, and also do u get your news from N4G?
It's the other way around. N4G simply pools in a collection of sources (one of them being PSXE) and posts the articles on their site based on popularity and time.
DUH
look like sombody is copyng sombody,i have seen the from page of both websites whit the exact news.
You need to learn the correct way to reply to someone.
You do realize news is prevalent to many sources? Do you get confused when you see the same sports news on ESPN that's on SI?
BIG NEWS FOR EUROPE:
HEAVY RAIN DEMO ON THE PS STORE 11TH FEB, very excited now 😀
I will NOT be playing this demo. I never play demos of games I'm for sure buying. I stay away of extended trailers when it comes to movies I'm wanting to see as well.
I kind of get what you're saying. I know I'll play Heavy Rain, God of War III, and Final Fantasy XIII so I don't need (or want) to play the demo.
However, I really do love demos in general. They're a big help overall for the vast majority of titles…'cuz I'm not 100% sure if I WANT the vast majority of promising games, you know?
I agree. Demos just like movie trailers are a great way to sway the undecided. I have no problem playing a demo to give me a better understanding of a game. Folklore, PJMonsters, and Siren I might not have tried had it not been for the demo.
wait so were getting the demo 3 days after JP gets the game?
WTF is the point of that?
looks like im importing.
I don't like the idea of paying more for DLC.
But, in this case, the DLC is not part of the game. You don't have to know about what happened prior to the start of Heavy Rain. They are just giving you the option to experience more content that is somewhat tied the game, but has no major impact on the chain of events in the story. I don't like to pay for anything but once again this is extra content. Now taking a chunk out of the existing game and tagging it DLC is a cheap shot at the target audience and (potential) buyers. I will not be swindled!
As long as they are reasonably priced I'll get them.
nice, the DLC in this game is longer than the whole SP mode in MW2, MW, ODST or army of two the 40th day.
now thats kinda sad!
i wish there was a rule saying games are not allowed to be less than 10 hours long.
i really enjoyed AOT but it was so freaking short, same for uncharted, uncharted 2, DMC4, bayonetta almost every game.
O and the demo is out on feb 11th only 2 months late………………
david, just because the game was delayed 10 times does not mean the demo has to follow suit 😉
i really wanted to download the heavy rain demo, but theres no point now ill be too busy playing AVP, bioshock 2 and last but not least DANTES INFERNO!
DLC cool, that will be a great add bonus to the game. I can not wait for this game I'm counting down the days 🙂
@ world u still havent' swapped u're HDD hurry up 😉
hello …
i'm getting the first DLC too with my pre-order (Special Edition) …
Looking forward to that game, it's a masterpiece 😉
cheers!
