Ben-DutkaLooks like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is in line for a few more prestigious awards.
After dominating several award shows late last year and walking away with Game of the Year honors from multiple sources (including here at PSXE ), Naughty Dog's masterpiece is primed to nab even more hardware at the 10th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards. According to GameSpot , we already know that Valve co-founder Gabe Newell will be receiving the Pioneer Award (for fairly obvious reasons), but the other categories remain up in the air. Uncharted 2 landed the most nominations, including one for Game of the Year, Flower received an impressive five nominations and the excellent Assassin's Creed II got four well-deserved nominations. The other Game of the Year contenders are BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins , Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham Asylum , Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II and From Software's Demon's Souls .
Wanna check it out? The GDCAs will be held in conjunction with the 2010 Game Developers Conference, which will run between March 9th and 13th in San Francisco. The award ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on March 11 at the Moscone Convention Center. They don't have a host just yet, but Double Fine's Tim Schafer has handled these duties for the past couple of years so maybe he'll return. So what do you think of the nominations? Hard to argue, we think.

Uncharted2 GOTY hands down
Uncharted 2 was the best game I played last year followed closely by AC2 and Demon's Souls. So it's hard for me to disagree with this list.
Ok. That is the BEST list of GotY nominees I've seen in YEARS.
Uncharted2 is so epic, and it will continue to be that way for ages. Is Dragon Age actually fun on the PS3? The graphics looked a little, meh.
Imagine the bar they set for Uncharted 3.
Yes. DA:O is fun on the PS3 and, according to some outlets, only bested by the PC version (meaning it is better than the 360 version).
It's awesome to see Naughty Dog getting so much attention, deservedly. At this point we just look over, see U2 nominated and awarded for a million categories and go, "yep." It's just that easy.
Uncharted 2 was definitely the best game I played in 09, edging out inFamous. But Ben, I'm afraid you are going to have to explain to me why the obese beast got a pioneer award? Valve hasn't pioneered anything in like a decade.

Oh come on World, lets be fair. He has been pioneering the hell out of that same game engine for the last ten years!

World, I think the Pioneer Award is like Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in movie business. So it's not for his achievements in 2009, but for the earlier stuff.

He and his studio developed the main digital distribution service Steam. They developed an engine that has been mimicked more ways than I care to count as I don't enjoy FPS games all that much. He may be a bit of a loud obnoxious moron for the most part, but he did have a thing or two going on in the early part of his career and as MBG stated the Pioneer Award is more like a lifetime achievement award of sorts

The PBS investigative show Frontline will be airing a episode titled "Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier" which will look at how digital media and the Internet have transformed human lives and the subject of videogames is featured heavily in the program. It'll air on Feb 2 at 9PM ET. Might be interesting.

O, that and make it a less linear game.
thats one thing that was left begging in uncharted theres so many beautiful areas you want to explore and your always sent down the same path.

As it was discussed in an article a little after the game's release and you listed this as a pain, noone really had a problem with this. Try moving at a slower pace because uncharted 2 wasnt meant to be a run and gun game.
i STILL can't believe gametrailers gave modern warfare 2 game of the year…
its a fantastic game, no doubt, but definity not THE game of 2009. its second only to uncharted 2
Actually, I thought they gave it GotY 4 times, once each for Xbox, PS3, PC and overall GotY.

I am really surprised that Demons Souls got nominated for GOTY yet MW2 didn't. These awards must be based on gameplay instead of sales.
if sales are part of a criteria it can only be something like: "sold at least n units".
HA. There is much doubt in MW2 being a fantastic game, not bad but not great. If I could place MW2 in the Top games of 09' I would place it 6th, and thats being gracious.
In my opinion, Circle works well, once you learn how to utilize it properly it works well. Come to think of it, its not hard at all to use.
If Mr Newell snatched any awards for the original Half Life I can accept that, but he and the company deserve no awards for L4D. The 1st was fun on the PC but Fun is the extent of my experience with L4D.
U2 really deserves GOTY. I mean that game was just plain epic. Most fun I had playing a game in a very long time.
If all goes well I will be getting ACII this weekend. thing s have been very tough $$$ wise so yeah I am running a little behind on all the games I want. Hopefully I can get and finish that asap so I can get into Heavy Rain when it comes out in my country.
But even before Heavy Rain hits I have quite a couple of other games I want to get as well… Just don't know how I am going to get cash and the time to play them all….
I'm actually thinking of getting ACII but I have some doubt.
Is it really amazing?
ACII is defintely worth a rent, not a purchase as replay is limited. But the first time you play it – it's great.
I'm also on the fence about it. I don't know. I also want InFamous and Disgaea 3, but Assassin's Creed makes me hesitate. Any suggestions???
I just finished AC2 recently. I must say this game is fantastic!
There are a few things I would gripe about but, as a whole, the game is worth much more than just a rental. It's fairly long, so you're better off just buying it.

I'm most happy to see five nominations for 'Flower'. It was easily the best downloadable game last year, and one of the best games altogether. Nice to see recognition given to where it's deserved.

I keep wanting to jump into the Flower pool, but haven't quite got there yet. too many other games, but it is on my list of things to do before I die.
As some have said. ps3's exclusives can't be beat. They're the cream of the crop!
Going forward I see ps3 outshining everything else with its games.

I gleefully shared this story with my MW2 obsessed coworkers. After telling them that their beloved "best game ever" was not even nominated for GotY, they were pissy and I was giddy. It was beautiful. Still can't get them to try Uncharted though.
