Sony and the PlayStation 3 continue to adopt new ideas every year, but don't think all these ideas are internal.
During a recent interview with Examiner.com , SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller spoke about the current state of the PS3, the new services that have already arrived, the future of the Network, and the need to have enough content on the PSP Go to "keep everyone happy." We've also watched the storage space grow continually over the past few years, and many believe this was simply due to the digital distribution boom. But it also has a lot to do with the ever-increasing functionality of the PS3 and Sony's long-term goals. Said Koller:
"From the start, PS3 was designed to be more than just a video game system and as such we knew that different people were going to use it in different ways. And we are firm believers in listening to the PlayStation fanbase. As a device with a ten-year lifecycle, we knew that new features would be constantly added every year through firmware updates or new services like Netflix. We also have always said PS3 is proficient as a multimedia hub out of the box. As the amount and depth of digital content available through the PlayStation Network (PSN) continues to increase, we wanted to provide those who go beyond just saving games and DLC on their HDD with options to accommodate their growing digital content library. Digital content will undoubtedly continue to be on the rise and a larger hard drive fits our view of the future. Our goal is to provide options to users so that whatever their entertainment choices are next year or the year after, they’ll have the storage space to accommodate the way they want to use their system."
In regards to the PSP Go, Koller says they've "met the challenge" of having enough content for new owners; there are currently over 300 downloadable games available, in addition to thousands of movies and TV episodes. As for the Network, that will continue to grow; we'll see more content, more Home expansion (Koller mentions the new pseudo-MMO within Home, Sodium One ), and of course, more attention paid to the consumer. In short, if you have suggestions, don't be afraid to speak up 'cuz someone just might be listening…
how about reducing PSP game prices?
im sorry but NO! psp game is worth 60 bucks not one, not even GOW CoO or syphon filter logans shadow.
i mean come on, seriously as if im not paying enough for games as it is.
i would buy allot more games for my psp if they were 40 bucks or less apposed to 60.
especially since they barley last 6 hours, i dont know about you but i find it hard to justify 10 bucks for 1 hour of entertainment no matter how good or fun it is.
no wonder piracy on the psp is so popular.
Ok Sony, now I got a question:
If you give PS3 the feature to connect 7 controllers at a time, THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF IT WHEN THERE'S HARDLY ANY GAME THAT'S CAPABLE OF PLAYING 7 PLAYERS OFFLINE?!?!?!?!?!??!?
Aside from sports game, THAT'S ALL!!
AMEN!
ive been asking that question since the day i bought my ps3.
it infuriates me that almost every 360 exclusive supports drop in co-op and very few ps3 exclusives do.
and the ones that do is only split screen instead of normal.
i wish more games would adopt the tech in Indiana Jones Lego 2.
have it a single screen, than have the screen split if the 2 players reach a certain distance apart.
army of two the 40th day would be a million times better if it had that tech.
thats it, from now on i declare it illegal for any ps3 game to come out and not support local co-op. and not only that it must also use the tech found in Indiana jones 2.
refusal to abide by this new law will result in the penalty of death!
Online is the culprit behind the lack of offline games.
Among the EVERYTHING PS3 does, "It only does family togetherness" doesn't seem to be true.
I think the reason the PS3's hard drive continues to get bigger is for movies, TV shows and the like – not digital distribution of games.
If Sony wants to listen to its customers, please give us a release date schedule for upcoming titles. I realize release dates may change occasionally, but a reasonable estimate of the intended release dates, along with reasons for changes, would be very much appreciated. I'm really, really sick of all this extremely vague stuff and being left to listen to a dozen internet rumors. Just tell us Sony!
hello …
yes, that will be great SONY listen to your fans 😉 …
i would like a confirmation of SSD support, more Multimedia files or package support, video & music streaming services to Mauritius (all countries would be great), PSN accounts for MU & support for paypal or my credit card, a 1 time transfer of account settings / saves & trophies to another one (in case i can have a MU PSN & would like to tfr my settings hehe…)
I really want that other countries option so badly that if i had the money, i would build the server, pay for SAFE connexion & allow SONY to use it free for the Indian Ocean Zone ….
cheers!

What this loyal PS3 fan wants..
– A chat feature. Yes, I will pay for it if I must.
– The entire PS2 library on the PSN Store. Yes, I will buy my favorite games from the past.
– The ability to back everything up. Do not allow devs and publishers to lock content. Any of it.
Outside of that. I am very happy with the system.
Sometimes it is not a great thing listening to your customers, some people really just like to complain and keep asking for more. People can say they will pay for things but in most cases they don't; they will find something else to complain about.
I agree with maxpontiac, especially on stopping the "Locks" on any game.
When I had to swap out my 60BG due to the disc drive going, I lost a bunch of game saves.
And I was especially super mad about having to lose my Rag Doll Fung Fu game & all of my Mafia 1 saves that I just gotten through.
Indeed sir. I lost my Killzone 2 save when I upgraded to a Slim.
What if Sony provided some space on the PSN for people to backup their saved files? Perhaps a lot of this talk will be answered when Sony fully reveals the premium PSN package they are looking to introduce?
I really wish they'd lower the price of PSP games. I loves mah Go. And why do you guys want cross-game chat so much? Talk to your friends before you play a game. And if you forget to say something, just message him. Oh and, my friend sent me a picture on PSn of a guy purchasing MGS2 from the PStore. I wasn't photoshopped either.
John, I think SONY lied to you.
Yeah, Sony's listening. That's why my ps3 died immediately after installing their mandatory 3.15 update. It was working seconds prior and now it doesn't read any discs. I don't buy that crap about disc drive failure because it was working literally seconds prior. If they were truly listening to fans they would admit they did something to ruin my system and do something to fix it that doesn't cost me 150 bucks.
I would like to say one of the thin gs that would make me most happy would be to make HD MKV video files to work along with their subtitles files when they come with it. I'm an anime/foreign movie viewer, and the MKV format is a perfect format for videos that are of high quality and need subtitles. It would just be so much better and much easier for their to be more compatability with more video and audio formats for everyone that I know of. It's not too much of a problem, but to be able to watch a movie or something in MKV format from the HDD with it's ability to have true HD video and true surround sound audio, it would be perfect…except for Bluray, not much gets better than actually having the movie on a Bluray (Advent Children Complete being a prime example)
there's 3 thing i want to see on my ps3
1) i want my unit to remember the wep codes to all the wireless routers i visit like my psp does. i hate having to re-enter the codes every time i travell with my unit.
2) i want to be able to play my own music while i am playing a game (al a xbox style)
3) i want mouse and keyboard support in all fps video games not just for the browser.
