None of us really like delays (even when it's a fortuitous event that frees up some time on our calendars) but sometimes, a game can really benefit from the extra time.
Take 2K's Bioshock 2 , for instance. It's scheduled to arrive shortly on February 9 but initially, it held a Fall 2009 release date. And although this particular title didn't run away to 2010 to avoid competing with the big boys – this is one of the big boys – the delay was still seen as disappointing. However, as 2K Marin's senior systems designer Ken Hudson says, despite the fact that it cost 2K Games "millions of dollars," we'll all get a better game. In speaking about the subject during an IGN video interview , Hudson says it simply "wasn't ready but "it's definitely a much better game than if it had released in November." Added Hudson:
"The extra time just allowed us to refine what was there, to take a step back from it and say, ‘OK, does the story really make sense to people? Are there things we can do to make it even more resonant?' The team took the opportunity to rewrite some sequence, rerecord some lines, and add new environmental story-telling. The story really benefited a lot."
This is what we like to see. A team dedicated to the story in a project, with designers who just want to get it right, regardless of time or money. The best part is that we're still talking about a FPS (or FPS/RPG, technically) and you just don't see this kind of effort put towards plot and character development in this genre. Sure, it has to compete with Dante's Inferno now but Bioshock 2 is definitely in a class of its own on February 9.

Cool, though saleswise,Lets be honest with all the titles coming out in Feb/March, i dont think its really going to benefit much at all…. Still glad to know they've made it as good as possible, i will get it eventually.
It may not benefit them, initially, but the sign of quality will pass on through the reviews and word-of-mouth and THAT will get the game sales continuing and even growing as time passes on.
This is great news. I love hearing stories that have
A) a team that wants to look at a product and ensure the quality of it
and B) a publisher that is willing to give the designers the ability to "polish" up the product and give the consumers something that they'll enjoy.
I'm sure this will be noticed and will get the companies the money that they so deserve.
Dante's Inferno is being tagged as a last gen God of War compared to the real thing. Nope, sounds like it won't be much competition. Especially for a sequel to a GOTY award winner. This one sounds like it's going to shine.
Really i havent heard that, infact i think D.I. seems very good same style as GOW, but lets not forget GOW is hardly the first hacknslash even in that style.
I think DI will do pretty well, not just because I'm picking it, but we have to bear in mind that 360 fans have no GOW to look forward too and will want a taste and something to say is "better" just like they did with Prototype over inFamous. I want DI for the new story, I'll get to GOWIII but graphics aside I don't see anything vastly different there.
People like me who have played (and loved) the entire GOW series will buy it over DI for that reason.
Glad to hear a company thinks enough of it's itself, and us gamers, that it took the time to smooth out the storyline & polish up their game…..
"More power to them for that"
HEY Squeeze-us, you hear this??????
Take2 Marin "ADDED" content, unlike your stealing of content away and ruining some of the game for all those devout RPG lovers.
Tell 'em BikerSaint ><
Agreed 1000%
Preach.
Will be buying this one for the singleplayer alone.
i dont know the multiplayer seems kinda badass
I am sure it is, but I really liked the first one alot.
This game, like Uncharted 2, is worth the singleplayer alone.
I'd much rather see a game delayed a few months and done RIGHT than rushed out. An awful lot of games apparently fell into this mold recently — the next few months are CRAZY in terms of games released that slipped from last year — but it is the best option.
Must buy right here, for those that played part one. Its a no brainer! The atmosphere created was so engaging that I invested in a good 5.1 system just for this game.
i dont know, i played the first one and i wasnt really impressed with it. not disappointed either. but i'm gonna have to pass on this one. theres a lot more games i want to play right now.

Gonna try to get some friends to pre-order this off Steam. They have packs of 4 copies that are on sale for about $33.75 per copy and you also get the original Bioshock for free… which I already have so I'll probably gift it to someone.
Played the Dante's Inferno demo for the 3rd time last night, sorry Bio2.
I'm going for DI as well… as I've said before, Bioshock is an extremely well done game in every aspect, but not as good as games used to be… maybe that's why Is famous, because of the whole lot of new gamers that never played games like Final Fantasy VI. It can wait 😉 Hack and Slash on the other hand, can't. The world can live with an extra lost citi, but not full of demons, huh? Someone has to save us 🙂

With the choices of hack and slash genre games that have come out recently and are due out, it just doesn't stand out as much for me.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the demo and I think the game will rock probably along the lines of Darksiders. But, for me, it can wait.
I still have Darksiders, GoW collection, and Bayonetta to play before I start worrying about Dante.
That's right, Dante will absolve us of our sins until GOWIII releases 🙂

The morality goes both ways, lol. He'll either absolve us of our sins or pike our heads off with his sythe.
Oh I think it's better than Darkpoopers. Feels good to make Death himself beg for his life!
I am so very nervous for BS2. It'll probably be good, but I do believe it is going to feel left by the wayside. In fact the comments made here by Hudson make me question whether or not the story is any good.
A lot of people are worried about being a big daddy too. I wouldn't mind being called that though 😉

For real. I'm going to have the urge to walk around slamming splicers and yelling "Who's your daddy!!"
"And what does he do?.."
sadly i dont like this game
Nothing wrong with a delay. It's the multiple and endless delays that I can't stand.
shit, no kidding. remember mgs4? i died a little each time it was delayed..
However, as 2K Marin's senior systems designer Ken Hudson says, despite the fact that it cost 2K Games "millions of dollars," we'll all get a better game.
Can you teach SE this trick too? I was a little sad about the delay, but now that's it's just around the corner for sure, I can easily let it slide. Just bring on the Big Daddy! 😀
Yes, very happy! Can't wait to play 🙂
Why did i picture that hamster holding a ps3 controller with the same look? xD
They should make a demo like the first one. I wanna see how playing as a big daddy is.
I am glad they delayed BS2 especially since it wasn't really finished, nice to see a developer wanting to do it right instead of just pushing it out fast.
GOW III will squash Dante's inferno sorry World.
???
dantes inferno is out on the 4th of feb as apposed to the 9th when bioshock 2 is out.
wait, dont tell me were actually getting a game before the US?
*faints*
anyway i was absolutely FURIOUS! when they announced the delay for bioshock 2 especially since it was like 10 days after they announced the release date.
whats the point of announcing a date than delaying it by 2 and a bit months?
anyway im glad (not really) that they did so because bioshock is my favorite game of 07 so ive got massive expectations for the sequel.
and lets face it, shifting the gameplay to a big daddy certainly was not a good start!
No thanx…. Bioshock 2 will just have to wait for a while I might get it at some point but not any time soon… Too many other "better" games that I want to get.
No offense to any of the Bioshock fans out there thou.
Cant wait 4 this, the 1st one was a gem. Di needs a step back, remember its going up against a game that won game of the year so show some respect.
