They're still not giving us an official name – guess we'll just assume it's "Arc" for now – but at least we've got a narrowed-down time frame.
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced today that their new motion controller for the PlayStation 3 will hit the market this fall in Japan, Asia, Europe/PAL territories and North America. As most of you know, it will be paired with the already existing PlayStation Eye and "detect the natural and intuitive movement of the hand and reflect the precise movement within the game, delivering a whole new entertainment experience on PS3." The previous estimate was that it might be ready in the spring or summer but it appears Sony wants to wait until they've got a goodly amount of compatible software ready. Said SCE President and Group CEO, Kazuo Hirai:
"We have decided to release the Motion Controller in fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users. We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the Motion Controller, not only from SCE Worldwide Studios but also from the third party developers and publishers, whom we have been working closely with. We look forward to soon unveiling the exciting software line-up that further expands and defines the PS3 platform as the ultimate entertainment system for the home."
The press release adds that Sony plans to "vigorously promote" this new motion-sensing technology as the "de facto controller of the PS3 platform along with the DualShock series controller." They also remind us that "motion controller" is a tentative name (duh) and that if you wish to experience the innovation of this nifty new technology, you really will need the PlayStation Eye. Well, fall seems to be about the right time, don't you think? Good for the holidays, no?
You Son of a…
::poop::
Laughing.
If only the Wii had failed none of this would be happening. I understand, Sony and MS want a piece of the casual gamer pie Nintendo is having all for itself. I just see the true gamers (like myself of course) suffering due to wasted time and money spent on accessories like this.
Ok I Got Faith In Sony On This 1 So Imma Buy The PS Eye And The "Arc". Gotta Support Tha Best!
If you want to support the development of motion controls I suggest you buy a Wii. They've been doing it for several years. I have a feeling this "Arc" is going to be one big mess.
You might want to wipe after you get those feelings, LV. 😉
Oh yee of little faith, the wii is the mess. Were just taking their idea an making the way it's suppose to work.Real life trackin NEVER been done.
Ok I can kinda understand you limited, but i feel lyk if i got the wii it would be a big waste of money cuz the only games i would get is super smash brothers brawl, and new mario bros. Those are the only games that keeps me coming back.
I can already see them hot off the shelves this next Holiday. I know they'll sell, but I most likely will not be one of their buyers. I'm not really into this whole motion thing for the PS3 and now I have to get the Playstation Eye for the Arc?
Money, money, money. Want, want, want. Broke, broke, broke… It's a vicious circle!
we get into americas hardest time since the 70's, and THEN they release all this awesome stuff? all these AAA games and peripherals? of man, bad timing everybody
The longer it takes, the better the product. Take your time Sony, nobody's begging for Arc anyway. I'm looking forward to it but I'm not drooling over some videos of Arc footage. More time equates to better quality. Simple as that…in most cases anyway…cough. (clears throat).
What? Were you expecting me to insert some product before the cough where more time didn't equate to better quality? Sorry, I don't cater to cliched minds but yes if I would have inserted anything it would have been FF13. I mean how long have we been waiting for it-only to hear some depressing news regarding the content available in the game.
Oh, I should stop before this gets out of hand. Sorry for the randomly self-produced tangent.
It's being released 'this fall in Japan, Asia, Europe/PAL territories and North America.'
These places don't all share the same Fall/Autumn period. Are we sure it will be released according to the North American Fall period and not somewhere else's?
Can't wait been looking forward to the Arc I have aPS3eye so I would like to use it for once, also can't wait for the Eyepet my son really wants it.
i can really see this being the flop that the eyetoy brought on.
its a good idea that they delayed it till the software is up to scratch and ready for release, they last thing they can afford is to release another system with no games for it.
though i cant see it catching on.
thats what i hate about the world today, not just the industry but everything.
a company brings something in and makes millions of it, so instead of bringing something else out to compete with it companies just copy it.
like sony or M$ and their motion controls, or google with their new "iphone killer"
originality people!
