Oscar-award winning director Peter Jackson is known for creating some of the most amazing films in recent memory, but what if he turned his attention to the video game industry…?
During an interview with Ain't It Cool , Jackson speaks about new creative ideas that might work better as games rather than movies. He just completed his most recent film, "The Lovely Bones," based on the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, and admits that he's actually "enjoying these games more than I am enjoying films at the moment." He's also well aware of the fact that game developers are "using a lot of film techniques now, especially the cinematic areas." As for any new game projects for Jackson, he says he's "involved with a Tintin game" and he's also working on a title based on the "Lord of the Rings" prequel, J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit." But above all else (in our eyes) is his newfound desire to try his hand at original games rather than merely game adaptations of films. Said Jackson:
"I think some of the ideas I've got, I'd rather do them as a standalone game, because that world is getting more and more interesting."
If Jackson lends his considerable directing talent to the game world, provided he has the right team around him (and it seems highly unlikely that he'll surround himself with lesser talent), it'll be very interesting to see what happens. Perhaps getting guys like this directly involved with the industry will mark another big step for video games… By the way, I would just like to add that I despised the book, "The Lovely Bones." Felt like I was getting punched in the kidneys with every passing chapter. 'gag' But I know everyone loved it, so I'll shut up. 🙂
world
dont know whether thats a compliment, or an insult… either way, if felt good to read : )

upper right corner of each page has a link.
The word 'forum' at the top of the page isn't a dead give away?
So would good old Mr Jackson's games finally settle the matter about games really being a form of art?
Oooo! Maybe thay can make a Lord Of The Rings game!
Oh Wait…
Maybe they can make a GOOD Lord Of The Rings game!
As much as i liked LotR like Star Wars, Its been done, so im not interested in seeing anymore games, spin offs about it. Obviously The Hobbit films will be an exception.
Anyway leaving politics lol
I wouldnât mind seeing what he could do, people doubted him with LotR and look what he pulled off. I'm looking forward to seeing 'The Lovely Bones' also. The only thing that bugs me is that Mark Wahlberg is cast as the father, The mother also bothers me, they look to young. Still looking forward to it though.
Honestly, the people making games have 1,000 times more talent, creativity and skill than those celebrity hacks in Hollywood. Why do you think I play games for 3 hours a night, and haven't seen a Hollywood movie in years? Jackson certainly didn't write Lord of the Rings, he added a zillion dollars worth of special effects to it – and give me a break, people didn't see those movies for any other reason.
Just leave the talented people to work on the games, and let the celebrities mug for the cameras on the Jay Leno show.
You're not giving him the credit he deserves, if you compair LotR to his old Gorefests, its clear to see how he has progressed, Do you have any idea how hard it is to make a crowd satisfying adaption, and make no mistake LotR is that, no one of the best book-film adaptions ever done. you can't just deny the huge talent that went into making such an epic as that.
Now i know im going to get tons of thumb downs for this as i'm on a game website, but i thought the quality of the film industry last year (and the year before) has risen dramatically, last year i enjoyed over 15 films at the cinema, just on that note alone, i believe they're doing their jobs well. last year only 4 new releases held my interest. though judging by this spring, i think thats going to be made up for.
It seems this may be cool, but in the end it will be a shooter
how the hell did this post go off on health care reform….
massive off topicness raises the ire of the posse.
Well not EVERYONE loved The Lovely Bones. Some people don't even want to see the movie.
I sure as hell don't.
Me either,maybe an animation
man i spend mi money on games, movie are not a priority, all willing film makers should come this side of the camp and show somthing impresive, but dont tink im go crazy, let your product speak …
Poor Peter Jackson finally gets an article on PSXE and the comments explode into a political slap fest.
Peter Jackson could bring some creative and interesting ideas to gaming. I think he may have a positive impact on games.
I think it's all possitive even if their first couple of games are not very good they'll get better at it.Like developers on a new system then they'll be making amazing games.Or so i hope.Am sure next Camaron game will be better than Avatar thats if he even bothers.
Good to see a fellow kiwi get a mention on PSX 😀
There's been talk for a while now that weta is maybe in the process of starting up a game developing company. Maybe it's finally coming to be.
