Activision: DJ Hero 2 In The Works

We figured it was coming and it was unofficially confirmed last year but now, Activision has clarified: DJ Hero 2 is on the way.  …er…we think.

According to GameSpot citing a Game Informer interview, outspoken Activision CEO Bobby Kotick announced that a sequel to the innovative and stellar DJ Hero is currently in development. "I think DJ Hero is a really innovative product," said Kotick. "I can't wait for you to see next year's." The only problem is because we're talking about a February issue of the magazine, we're not really sure if that comment was made in 2009 or 2010…and in all reality, despite the pseudo-confirmations we've heard in the past and the warm reception the first title received, a sequel might be a bad idea. After all, the music/rhythm fad died down a lot in 2009, falling 40% in comparison to 2008 and DJ Hero didn't meet Activision's lofty sales expectations. Due to the over-saturation of music titles and the relatively steep $120 price tag, the game featuring a unique peripheral only managed to sell 175,000 copies in its first month at retail and 123,000 in the second month. But Kotick has also said they plan to "stick with it" and they'll "get it right."

Well, "getting it right" isn't really the issue; they basically got it right the first time. The issue was competing with a lot of other music-based games, and that high admittance fee. But the good news is, if you purchased DJ Hero , you should be able to get the sequel for the normal price of $60 because you already have the requisite accessory. That might help a lot.

What's not to like? You get to pretend to be someone who's pretending to be a musician!

I guess this game "mooed" enough for them to milk it at least once more.

I can't wait to not buy it again.

Hezz,
I won't be getting it either,
(even if the cows do come home)

Maybe magically, the DJ Hero sequel will be playable on a Tony Hawk Ride board……I'm sure Activision has quite a few of those lying around they'd like to move.

The Wii is not a gimmick; it is a fad. A fad is when everyone must own something just because it is the hot new thing. Eventually, people grow tired of it and move on to the next hot thing, e.g. pet rocks, Furbys, Tamagotchi, etc.

Granted the Wii's fad status has endured far longer than I thought it would, basically because of a few games that continue to suck in new consumers.

That said, I still don't think the Wii passes the Ps2 as the best-selling console of all time. The Wii fad will run out of steam long before that occurs. Ninty has already lost the interest of the fanboys, though I'm sure they'll all dust off their Wiis for the new Zelda or whatever franchise Ninty deigns to rehash for the millionth time.

Full disclosure: I own a Wii for what few ‘core games are on the system: Madworld, No More Heroes, Zelda, House of The Dead, etc… Honestly, though, it just gathers dust most of the time.

Netflix on the Wii is a reason to dust it off. Finally gives the machine some use.

Is this Kotick new business plan? Just keep releasing it until we buy it, someone needs to tell him that field of dreams was just a film.

Buying a second hand pair of decks and some vinyl is cheaper, and a far better way to entertain yourself and friends than this, which at the heart of it is just a technical mechanical affair.

Someone actually bought the first one? If I could get a list of the people that bought it, I would have the greatest list of wannabes ever compiled. Pics would be nice to accompany. Everyone point and laugh.

I went to Firstlook this year in mid-October and they had this big DJ-Hero stand behind the ACII stand, n that sh*t was annoying as hell, blasting too loud music to the people who were playing ACII and Avatar the game. They didn't have much of a crowd either. After the event I didn't hear anything from it until now. So no interest whatsoever, except for the stuff I just wrote and such…

I'm wondering if the Anti-vision Plastic-Ware Company isn't already starting to feel the loss of some future profit….
yesterday, my local GameStop still had the same giant "floor to ceiling" stockpile of T.H. "Ride" boards as they did the very 1st day they came out.

Of course there is a sequel. Then there will be DJ Hero: RunDMC, DJ Hero: Tupac, and DJ Hero: ICP all with in the same year.

Hmmm, let me count the ways….

Whoopee Cushion Hero,

New York City Taxi Horns Hero,

Church Bells Hero,

Elevator Muzak Hero,

Cheerleader Chants Hero,

Longshoremen Cursing Hero,

Animal Shelter Noise Hero,

Officer's Traffic Whistle Hero,

Vienna Choir Boys Hero,

Wind-chimes Hero,

Emergency Vehicle Sirens Hero,

Dueling Alarm Clocks Hero,

Organ Grinder's Hero,

Lighthouse Foghorn Hero,

Chirping Crickets Hero,

Fire Alarms Hero

Kazoo Hero,

………and last, but not least…………

The Sounds of Silence Hero
(And Kotick guarantees 100%, that there's won't be one single sound at all, to hear on this disc).

honestly every single time i go to the shops there is at least 2 different groups of people walking out of the shops with this.
PLEASE PEOPLE.
PLEASE! DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP ANYMORE OTHERWISE MONEYVISION IS NEVER GOING TO GIVE UP!
i wish guitar hero would go back to its simple glory days, the first was such a brilliant game.
funny how sales can completley destroy a series 🙁

well I actually bought the game, and I loved it. I have no idea how to DJ but this game is fun. I like it because it features artist from when I was growing up…BBD, LL Cool J, and Daft Punk. It's gathering dust now since I've mastered all the songs but I'll be picking this one up if the music is good.

Off topic

Ben you forgot to include Alien vs Predator in the latest poll…that one has my vote =P
