PS3 Motion Controller Is Named “Arc?”

We know Sony's new motion sensing technology is set to release this year, but we still have no idea what it's called .

Saying "Sony's motion sensing technology" over and over again is just plain tedious and my keyboard hates it. Therefore, we've been wondering when Sony might lift the veil on the name, which everyone has guessed at ever since last year's E3 when the nifty system went on display. But according to VG247 , they have it on "good authority" that the PS3 motion controller will be named, "Arc." At one time, it was once called "Gem" (which makes almost no sense whatsoever), but that was only an internal code name. This controller features two wand-like, Wii-like pieces, each of which is topped with a tracking device in the shape of a ball…it's why people have been calling it the "ice cream cone controller." It's fully compatible with the PlayStation Eye and its potential and capability may be unrivaled; we're not the biggest fans of motion sensing, but this could be very special. And if it really is called "Arc," that'll help a great deal in the future when we go to write articles like this. Three letters in a title? That's a space saver!

Anyway, "Arc" should be released this year, and we're just guessing at a late-Spring or early-Summer launch.  Not surprisingly, SCEE says they "don't comment on rumor and speculation."

hmmmm i wonder if its true that it will be compatible will all current games.
dont see how that would be possible, unless all the games were programmed to use it and that would be impossible seeing some games are 3 years old.
but if it is true, that would be kind of cool!
i just hope they dont go and make some cool games i want to play and force me to use the motion controller.
if its kids games, like the demos they had at E3 i dont mind, but if its full fledged games than i wont be a happy chappy!

I'm just waiting for motion control done right! The Wii couldn't do it. Microsoft, well I never have owned or will own a 360. PS3, it only does everything…oh yeah…Bet-ter.

I still think it looks like some kind of dildo! I really don't like the way it looks at all, and I am pretty sure they could have thought of something better looking than that!

Don't think I will be getting this any time soon…

You guys are not thinking of the possibilities this new controller may create, that is if it works the way it's suppose to.Remember the demo sony showed with the skeletons, well you guys can't tell me that didn't remind you of Zelda or something similar to Demons Souls as an option to play with the PsOrb not mandatory of course. How about an RPG something similar to Diablo or something entirely new where you could use flaming whips, ball & chain, sword, two by fours, throwing knives,or even some grenades. In the realm of strategy this device can prove limitless in possibilities a Command and Conquer maybe Starcraft or finally a great looking realistic Civilication or Spore. It could be an extension of what we already have,an extra option not a replacement for anything but another cool way to enjoy our beloved Playstation.

A way to interact with people in Home or punish your EyePet,an rpg fireman game or a great simulation something weve never played before.A new 2d side scroller i just hope developers can get it together and actually put some innovation into whatever they create instead of making silly gimmicky games or stupid silly childrens games. To me it seems like the device is great now it's up to DEVELOPERS to make something of it.If they need ideas they can always come to me the possibilities oh my.

I think this will be better than Natal. "Arc" will have somthing to put in your hand and offer the tactile experiance that Natal cannot.
Motion control is neat but I still need buttons, like, to pause the game among other things.
What do I do with Natal? Use a safe word if I want it to stop? The Arc tech is tried and true: Take one of those nifty balls off of Nolan North's mo-cap suit and slap it on a stick. So simple. So elegant.
I dont think Ill buy one though. I like to game on the couch. With my thumbs.
