TV Network To Offer Game Downloads

All this crossover interactive media is starting to pile up, obviously as a result of how popular certain services have been. The latest move involves Showtime Networks teaming up with Broadband Libraries LLC to create "On Broadband," a service designed to allow users to download online games from cable TV companies and broadband providers. It will be in direct competition with Turner Networks' GameTap.

"While it might not seem like a natural, when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense for Showtime," Matthew Blank, Showtime Networks chairman and chief executive told The Associated Press. "We are used to dealing with a premium customer. We have the marketing and promotional expertise to be in those businesses."

On Broadband will take care of both the sale and delivery of games, but will use the provider name rather than "Showtime." They're anticipating a spring launch, but as of yet, no partners or game titles have been announced. Pricing is another aspect that needs clarification, but we do know the service will offer free and paid individual game downloads in addition to full subscriptions.
