A 3D Patch For God Of War III Is A Distinct Possibility

3D gaming is on the way and it may impact some of your favorite franchises. For instance, God of War III director Stig Asmussen most certainly wants to see a 3D Kratos.

In speaking to NowGamer , Asmussen not only confirmed he'd be interested in the 3D option, but it also might become a reality at some point. We just can't imagine how nuts such an experience would be, provided the technology is up to snuff and everything looks right. And evidently, this shouldn't be an issue; said Asmussen:

"I know that it is something, having talked to one of our engineers, that we could do. We don’t have one of those 3D TVs so we wouldn’t be able to see what it looked like if we’re able to do it, and I’m sure that it would require a little bit of ramp up to do it, but from my understanding it’s not incredibly complicated."

Even so, it's kind of hard to picture. It wouldn't really be the same perspective as a 3D racing game like Wipeout HD or Gran Turismo 5 , for example. Asmussen said a 3D GoW "would be kind of like looking through a window seeing a miniature world or something like that, a three-quarter perspective, little world or diorama." Basically, there's no reason we might not someday see a 3D patch for God of War III ; the game certainly won't ship with this compatibility. But "if it's really easy to do" and there's enough of a demand for it, don't be surprised to see a 3D patch available some time later this year.

A 3D patch? I doubt it. A 3D version selling for $70? Yup!

You think so? I can see the game coming packaged with Kratos 3D glasses. Nobody's going to hand out 3D for free in a patch.

I doubt Sony will charge for the patch. It's a patch, not DLC.

Maybe they could include a 3D towel so I can wipe off the 3D blood from my face once I'm done playing a round.

A patch for our current TVs would sell a hell of a lot better than 3D TVs themselves. Somebody make the patch!

Well at least they aren't delaying GoW3 to add the 3D feature. Not that it wouldn't be incredible but no one even has a 3D TV to play it and even in a year, most of us still won't.

However, I'm really excited about 3D gaming. Immersion is a big part of gaming and making games in 3D just seems like an unbelievable step towards making games more immersive but it will take a few years before its affordable enough for it to break into the mass-market.

3D gaming isn't something up with which I will not put. I'm not buying a new TV, YOU HEAR ME!?

Sounds good. 3D could really be a great contribution to gaming or it can be a dimensional nightmare. Hopefully it's not the latter.

Man having Krato spring out of the TV at you that would make anyone soil themselves LOL. Still not really into the 3D aspect as of yet especially if I have to purchase a new TV, I just got a Sony 40inch Bravia LCD during boxing week.

I love Sony for pushing quality

But they should leave this for ps4…
I still don't see myself wearing those glasses (messing more with the eyes? no thanks)

??????????????????
dident sony say in 2010 there releasing a update that will make all existing PS3 games run in 3D?
either the media got there storys mixed up, or you just cant trust sony.
one minute there telling me my 200Hz TV will support 3D out of the box, when it wont.
now there telling me GOW3 may support 3D, even though they already said all excising ps3 games would support 3D.
as the old saying goes if you want something done you have to do it yourself!
cant trust anyone!

If implemented properly 3D would be awesome for God of War III! Imagine structures and mountains and Gods and Titans flying and falling around us. Visuals of weapons and incredible powers seemingly zooming past our heads with surround sound making it all the more involving. Crazy! But can it be done this way?

As far as 3D televisions go, manufacturers are doing this now while market penetration on HDTVs is still basically in its infancy. Now when someone who hasnt upgraded shops, 3D will be a factor in their decision. Too bad to, I was looking to purchase a second set but simply cannot afford the 3D level upgrade.

Besides the first models will be the testing grounds for the technology anyway. Ill wait.

It might work with those epic scaled environments, though I'm not so sure it will be as effective with the smaller scale fights.
Ain't getting a 3D TV for a long while, so I don't really care right now, just want this game.

I had the impression that 3Difying a game would require more than could be achieved with a simple patch. Does this mean my blu-ray movies could also see a 3Dification patch in the future?

I doubt it would work with movies. In a game the game's engine can tell the 3d engine what objects are father away than others, but in a movie everything is essentially on a flat plane that we interpret as 3d due to blur, scaling, and foreshortening in the picture.
A game already exists in 3d, but is rendered as a 2d image for our tvs, a movie file exists in 2d to begin with.

Sony has already said a firmware update will enable all PS3s and Standalone players to show blue Ray movies in 3D

Jawknee – Yes but we still need to buy 3D movies. I was wondering if my current blu-ray movies could be patched.

Sounds pretty cool, being able to see Kratos in 3D fighting Zeus… But, is it worth it to go out and buy a completely new 3D TV and the patch? Me thinks not…
And on the whole 3D TV thing in itself… I hope they have the 3D glasses selling for cheap. I have a feeling they're going to have to keep them in really good stock. (Sigh)

This is like telling a bunch of Ford and Chevy owners that Ferrari is coming out with a new model this year. I mean, yeah, that's neat and all, but it doesn't really concern me.

I'm hoping to get another HDTV this summer, maybe a 32" for (hopefully) around $350, and if I'm really frugal, maybe I'll be able to afford a new PS3 slim to go with it! That's the world I live in.

I was looking forward to buying an HDTV, but now I'll wait for the 2nd round of the 3D HD TV's come out(In my experiences, the 1st round of anything, usually has some unknown bugs that have to be worked out of it).
