It always happens with each generation: JRPG fans have to wait a good long time before their favorite genre really gets going.
The PlayStation 3 launched way back at the end of 2006 and although we've seen a few decent JRPGs since then, 2010 may be the year for all the long-time fans out there. Not only are we going to get White Knight Chronicles in just a few weeks, Star Ocean: The Last Hope International in February, Resonance of Fate later this year, and Final Fantasy XIII in March, but now, there's another one in February for the US, according to Joystiq : Last Rebellion . Developed by Nippon Ichi, this one is reserved for the ardent, hardcore JRPG aficionado; someone who always enjoys the anime artistry, flashy, colorful, over-the-top cinematics and potentially irritating characters. Personally, I typically enjoy games like this but I always make a point of singling out the target demographic in my review: quite simply, if you're not part of that demographic, if you're not part of that relatively small audience who has played most JRPGs of the past few years, you probably won't be interested in something like Last Rebellion . Just being all honest and stuff.
Anyway, it's a good time to be a role-playing fan, isn't it?

Can't wait for this one and WKC!
YES! I think the only thing not exciting about the RPGs coming out in the next few months is how much lighter my wallet is going to be.

What scares me the most is I will have to purchase every single thing on that list! But Ben, if this REALLY does cater to us JRPG fans… if it REALLY does, please tell me it will be turn based 😐

Turn-based it is, my friend.
I'll probably do a preview this week.
It is turn based!?
hallelujah!
Thank you, Ben
I was trying to find out the battle system. Plus it's starting at $40. WIN.
WOOHOO!
You gotta be joking me! It's turn based?? I'm buying it.
I think that Resonance of fate releases on March. I read that on some sites (like Joystiq)

Yep
Ben, what do you mean by "ardent, hardcore JRPG aficionado". Someone who likes games like Ar Tonelico, Shin Megami Tenseis, The Atelier and Shadow Hearts series?? or is it anything else??
Yeah, people who like those games. 🙂
I like the Shadow Hearts games, the original FFs, among others.
Im in Aus, so we dont get too many JRPGs.
Wonder if this would be a game i'd like =
Im deffinately a huge fan of anime.
Anyone know if Tales of Vesperia will be released this year?
Is it true that Last Rebellion will be released at 39.99? if not, then im preordering from amazon right away.
Wait…so if last rebellion isn't 40$, your going to pre-order it? o.O Correct me if i read it wrong…
I think he plans to lock in that price on Amazon before it gets changed.
If that's the case then i think i'll do the same.
I've been really interested in this game for a while but i can't seem to find any gameplay of it whatsoever. Can someone give me a link if you find any gameplay videos?

There are no videos out as far as I know, but you can always take a look at these screenshots.
Nine and Aisha share the same body, haha, looks like we are talking about another "hermaphrodite" here.
YES!
*victory fanfare* *twirls sword*
looks like im going to need a life jacket and a few paddles soon 😉
This sucker might be coming pretty soon. IGN has it listed at $50, I hope it's $40 like on amazon.
When you punch this into Amazon, the next few listings are: Resonance of Fate, White Knight Chronicles, Star Ocean TLHI, The Last Guardian, and Nier. Man.

havent really heard anything from this game. havent even seen gameplay so i dont know if i want to get this.
This is a good time to be a JRPG fan and a Hack and Slash fan 😉
Just look at Bayonetta, Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, God of War 3… slice and dice, baby.
Is Star Ocean IV gonna be good?
I like the way they call The Last Hope the "international" version. What a farce. Last time I bought a year old 360 port was Bioshock and I got it for $20. I think I'll pass all together on Square's last hope.
I'm still picking it up on the cheap, likely in such a way that SE doesn't see a dime for it.
RPGs… FINALLY!!!!
So let's see thats… Resonance of Fate, White Knight Chronicles, Star Ocean 4, The Last Guardian, Nier, FFXIII, FF vs XIII (HOPEFULLY… doubt it) and Tales of Vesperia
BTW anyone know when Tales of Vesperia on the PS3 is supposed to be out?
Am I missing any PS4 RPGs?

Let's finish the Ps3 RPGs first before we start looking for PS4 RPGs okay?
don't forget atelier rorona
this is awesome, finally the JRPGS are coming to ps3! WKC and SO4, and all the games you listed are definitely day one purchases, for me.
i love pretty much all NIS and atlus games 🙂
I don't know when tales will arrive for us. IIRC it's Japanese version landed in September, so assuming that the folks at Namco are actually going to localize this one it should be here by the spring.
It might be worth a few emails to Namco asking for it…
