Everyone is talking about Heavy Rain these days; not for the amazing visuals, but for the innovative approach to interactive storytelling.
In order to do this correctly, we need genuine, believable characters involved in a gripping, emotional plot. We haven't seen much of this in the video game world – let's admit it – but Quantic Dream's David Cage believes gamers have grown up, and that's why Heavy Rain is a truly adult title. In a recent CVG interview , Cage speaks about the maturity and the fact that while many games include emotion, this one will take everything to another level.
"In most games you've got adrenaline, stress, tension, frustration, competition: very simple emotions. With Heavy Rain we try to make you feel an empathy, make you smile, and make you cry. We try to make you feel what the characters feel, even if it's discomfort."
He goes on to say that designers should embrace more content, that games can include more depth and more meaning if one puts forth the requisite effort. And yes, this will certainly feature some of the more intense emotions you normally feel when watching good movies. As for the love scenes in the game, which have received plenty of attention due to footage like Madison's striptease, Cage says there's nothing remotely explicit about them, and that it's just another example of a realistic character interaction.
"There are a couple, but it's definitely not porn. We don't intend to push the boundaries and be ultrarealistic in every detail. It's about real characters having emotions and doing what adults do when they fall in love."
So if you're expecting a nasty threesome or something, forget it. When prompted, Cage just said they would "definitely end up on Fox News" if such content found its way into Heavy Rain . The bottom line is, though, that everything we see and hear continues to make us think that Quantic's project will be an absolute masterpiece.

Too human for uncanny valley? 😀
As perverted as I might sound, sex and violence are always "must" events in any game that wants to be realistic. Even when we aren't related to any violent of sexual events, they happen every single day, everywhere. Is good that QD are recognizing this, because is easier to get along a character that you can follow during different events of its life, call it work, social life, etc. At the same time, it gives them more tools and options to add to their game, boosting the amount of options the player has.
I think this game gets more intriguing every time there is an article about it.
Everything about this game is new and different. And it seems really interesting.
I just hope the fun factor is there as well.
Same
I don't want to compare this game to Silent Hil…But Silent Hill is one of those series where you never know what's going to happen next. That's the impression I'm getting from this game. But Heavy Rain will probably take that to another level of craziness.
The best thing is that it presents deep storylines. You could even say it's an rpg 😀 lol…well not really, but the storyline factor sounds really intriguing
My fave character, just appearance wise from what I've seen is that babe with the short hair…(wish the game would be based on her, only :3 )
Anyway, can't wait!
A journalist stripteasing for a story, yeah, that's realistic. You should see what the guys at PSXE do for a story.
HA.
ben is there somthing you wana tell us??
They will probably end up on Fox news anyway, since Fox don't do any journalism just sensationalism and fear-mongering to those stupid enough to watch it.

Yeah I can definitely see Hannity pointlessly devoting some time to this. But this game gets more and more interesting. I really hope it lives up to the hype.

@bikersaint
WIN!
That was fantastic. It's almost like you are peering into the future.
With everything else at steak I this coutry, I doubt Hannity will spend any time on video games.
@ jawknee
ha ha hannity never ceases to amaze.
heavy rain…is this that "stripper simulator" that foxnews was talking about?
Jawknee-
You'd be surprised. She is out of control!
This games going to be brilliant. For a game like this the sexual encounters are probably a must. I mean its definitely an adult game, even the strategic part of it. There's a fine line somewhere in there but when making a game like this I think its ok to cross it. From the sounds of it, they want this game to be as real as possible while still making it a game. Sounds like a great recipe if you ask me!
I get more and more interested in this title every time I hear about it. You know, even if I don't end up playing it through (sounds like you could sink a lot of hours into this one), I think I'll have to buy this game. We need to reward the developers and publishers for taking on projects like this.
Kudos to Quantic Dream, I hope this turns out to be a success so we can see more of these guys in the future.

i remember reading an interview with david cage and he's predicting about a 10-12 hour long story. and then he said he would like it if you never played it again. i think it was in game informer…seriously!
this game looks to be amazing. i love how the contextual buttons move around and shake in times of distress, it seems like it will do a very good job of simulating a real distressed persons decision making. looking forward to this game definitely.
Yeah is definitely better than the simon says gameplay on Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Even thought that worked pretty well. The ending's were pretty damn twisted.
Nevertheless this time Quantic dream went for something more realistic and took out the fantasy/scifi which was brought upon Fahrenheit.
Plus that new gameplay is gonna kick some ass. I think i should have a tutorial thought. Imagine if you killed your character as soon as you start the game, the storie just goes on… there is no game over but the plot will change dramatically. That's just really cool!
I'm always worried when we hear so many great things about this game before it's even out yet.
The expectations are set pretty high on this game. Every week there's some new exciting news regarding it's immersive story telling experience and gameplay.
I really can't wait for this game to arrive but I'm sure that there's alot of people sitting on the fence on this game waiting for the reviews to come out. It takes only a couple of reviews to say that the game is boring or doesn't live up to all the hype, that could turn people off this game. It's not a run and gun game, it's not got aliens or demons in it. I'm hoping that there is an audience for this game that will give it a fair shot at delivering a new immersive experience.
In a market saturated with fast paced shot em ups, I'm really hoping it delivers on all it's promises. It won't take much to turn people off and we really need more dev's to take a chance and push the boundary's in our gaming experiences. Otherwise all we'll get is reiterations of the same old stuff and that get's boring real fast.
So in many ways this is, in my opinion, one of the most important games to come out this gen. If it succeeds we could see more dev's getting creative, if it fails we just end up getting more and more recycled money spinners with no real inspiration. I'm really rooting for ya lads and ladies over at Quantic Dream, don't let us down.
I'm getting more and more excited for this game with every passing article, however, I can already see the future:
FOX NEWS:
Mrs. Janice Davison has put a lawsuit into effect towards game developer Quantic Dream and publisher Sony, saying, "My eleven-year old had sex and beat me up because of 'Heavy Rain'."
Oh, yeah. You know it's going to happen. Parents are stupid enough to let their children play Mature-rated games, yet it's always the game's fault that their kids behave badly.
Personally I think it is a combination of a lot of parents not being able to say no to their children, people still refusing to believe that video games are anything more than children's fancies, and the inability of people to accept that they made a mistake.
A scenario I was a part of when I was the assistant manager at a Gamestop goes something like this: A kid that must have been 13 or 14 came in on GTA:IV release day and wanted to buy it so naturally I refused the sale as I wanted to keep my job. An hour later his mother, fuming mad, came in with him and let loose with all the reasons I was scum and should have sold the game to said kid. I calmly tried to explain the rating system, the reasoning why I could not sale him the game i.e. me getting fined and fired, and the fact that GTA:IV was probably not well suited to her little poopsie. She continued to call me names I didn't know existed so I sold her the game. Not six days later, again while I was working she comes in and has another fit about the game to my co-worker while I was in the back saying that someone sold her kid the game and all kinds of nonsense wanting to return it based on the fact that it was too over the top for her kid. My co-worker came and got me because I was the ASM, where I in the most polite manner possible told her where to put that game.
Loooong story short, parents are idiots.
You know coverton341, I believe every word of that story. Good for you man.
You've also singlehandedly brought my respect for GS up a notch.

Can't Wait!
This is what I would like to see in a game. I'm sure there are plenty of immature gamers out there that will take it the wrong way. I prefer nudity to have a reason. Developers for GTA IV, just threw in the nudity and violence just for publicity. There is no reason for that. In fact, the game experience would not have changed with or without them.
In Heavy Rain that's a different story. There are reasons for the violence and nudity. You see and feel the emotions of the character that led them to such actions, even if it's more graphical than GTA. We feel it's actually necessary for the experience.
I didn't see any nudity in GTAIV
Just preorder my copy last night, I can't wait.
I really hope a demo for this hits the PSN Store tonight (as well as a demo for 'Aliens Vs. Predator').
IN all of QDs attempts to make this game "mature," I can't help but feel like many people are going to see it as "that game with all the boobs and f-bombs."
There's a big difference between maturity and obscenity. I can't help but feel like Heavy Rain is just taking us backwards.
Commence the thumbs down!
-Arvis
This will only happen if there's an excess of either vice, which means it can be seen as a game built around such immaturity. But I really don't think that will happen. There's just too much intelligence and depth in the game; of COURSE the only footage people focus on is the titillating stuff. Haven't you seen movie previews? 😉
Sadly, intelligence and depth doesn't sell a product. Stupidity and temptation do. But the end result is what matters.
Well, from what I know, some journalists who have played early builds of Heavy Rain have said things like "That game has more f-bombs than Tarantino film" and "I was playing a game in a booth next to Heavy Rain, and all I heard was 'F—, F—, F—!" over and over."
Sounds like they're overdoing it, to me.
And lets face it… the boobs are not necessary.
-Arvis
The journalists say that for various reasons, and I know why.
And as for the nudity, that all depends.
Ben-
Why is that?
Arvis-
I think your looking into it too much.
With a game like this that stuff may be necessary. I ask if you were in a murder mystery type atmosphere with life and death situations what would your vocabulary be like? There is a fine line there as I said before but I dont think this game will cross into that immaturity level. It will cross some lines but for what the game brings in a realistic manner but still remaining a game is ok…
Why do movies get a free pass? This game even said by the devs is an adult game. I dont think most kids would even want this game due to its style and progression. This game offers a mature feel and style, that you either will accept or deny. Honestly It's probably going to be more accepted considering its brings a lof of feeling to the game! Its one of those games that comes along and without playing you hear all the obscenities. You realise what kind of game it is and it may not be ok with all the public but definitely uses those elements wisely to enhance the emotional feel for the game! Its going to be BRILLIANT!

It's all in the presentation, and boobs are always necessary.
I'm just annoyed that they took such a cool idea and crapped a bunch of obscenity all ver it. I just really don't like hearing people curse, and I want to be able to play a video game with my friends in the room without being embarassed.
Heavy Rain seems very cool, but I won't be playing it.
-Arvis
I don't see this game selling well, but if enough mature gamers take notice, it will sell well, I am definitely going to pick it up.
"So if you're expecting a nasty threesome…"; LOL Ben!!!
Q!
"i am home"

Man, David Cage likes to go on and on about this game's emotional aspect, huh? I hope what he's saying is true, but I'm still very much on the fence about this title.
My turn to talk? Sorry I think everything was covered by the people above me.
I'm so looking forward to this game.
only thing that im a little concerned about this is that if you die thats it, game over and the story changes and continues without that character.
so what if i want to replay that scene and find out what would of happened if i did not die?
hopefully they will let you save the game wherever you want like darksiders that way you can load that save and your back close to that scene.
either that or hopefully they put in a retry option but that seems very unlikely.
i can understand why hes doing it that way, he really wants the player to feel the emotions they would if there in that situation, but thats simply impossible .
your playing a game, you cant get that thought, that seance of security out of peoples minds.
not to mention its a massive inconvenience!
im not going to play through the whole freaking game again just so i can experience what would of happened if i did this instead of that at a certain scene.
hopefully there will be a stats menu and a chapter select menu like what killzone 2 has so you can go back to every scene and explore every avenue.
im like that with games, i hate knowing ive missed something in a game.
i need to crawl through and know i have found and experienced everything in the game, even if i havent along as i think i have thats all that matters.
thats why i had to find all the feathers in AC2 even though it was driving me insane.
thats why i had to find all the glyphs, assassination toombs, templar hideouts and thats why i cant wait till the DLC comes out.
im not happy that i have to pay for it, but meh, im sure it will be well worth it!
I think that would destroy the purpose of this game. I think the developer wants you to play through the game having a unique experience. If you could just simply redo the chapter or scene that you messed up on it would destroy the creator's vision.
@________________,
To do so, would change the whole integrity of the game.
And we surely don't want that to happen, do we???
@Arvis
