MAG Is A “Tipping Point” For Gamers To Buy A PS3

There are plenty of reasons to own a PlayStation 3 these days, outside of the awesome exclusives that launched last year: we're looking at God of War III , Heavy Rain , Gran Turismo 5 , The Last Guardian and more in 2010.

Ah, but Sony says we shouldn't forget one more. It's Zipper Interactive's uber-ambitious MAG , the game that shatters previous FPS multiplayer limits by allowing up to 256 players onto one massive map. Slated to be launched on January 25, Sony says this one will be a "tipping point" for many consumers to finally break down and buy a PS3. They also confirmed the UK launch date of January 29 (mainland Europe gets it a few days earlier), but they clearly want to make a statement. As SCEE UK product manager Phil Lynch told MCV magazine:

"MAG is a very important IP for us and definitely a key exclusive for PS3. MAG is a real statement of intent for us to engage fans of FPS games. With the successful Resistance along with Killzone 2 and now MAG, we feel we are a viable choice for gamers looking to get that much more from their console. MAG will definitely be one of the many tipping points for those who haven't got a PS3 to get one this January."

Lynch goes on to say that Sony's sales expectations for MAG are high, primarily due to the success enjoyed by similar titles in the recent past (several of which he mentioned in the quote above). He believes the FPS genre has become "much more accessible to everyone," which is probably true. Furthermore, the "unparalleled scale" of a game like MAG should result in plenty of curious and eager gamers who want to see the next step in the online multiplayer boom. Well, our hopes are high, too.

I didnt like the beta much, i´ve seen better like 2 years ago with the Bad Company demo, i loved it the campaing sucked (for me in that game) but the multiplayer was one of the best i´ve seen for a fps, next to cod4 and better than the codwaw, and with that beta it doesnt seem MAG would be paired or better than those. The gameplay is ok, the respawn time excessive since you have to walk a lot after it, the sound and sensation on the weapons are not good, the iron sight are almost useless and difficult to get used to (sniper is fine), explosions are extremely pixeled at distances and other elements too.
I havent bought mw2 yet and with Bad Company 2 coming and maybe a new MOH, i find no reason to buy MAG, the name sounds kinda dumb, if i dont like the multiplayer, the campaign doesnt offer any better in this kind of games, previews dont look that good and that beta…. is the less expiring point of all (waste of time downloading those 2+ gigs). I could be wrong but i wont find out myself (or not yet), i'll let that part for the people who will actually buy and review this game.
Regarding the tournament, the winning price is great, so bad my country was not eligible and that i dont feel like playing this beta or being good at it. (tell me about and armored core tournament, then i´d be excited as i am with ac5 coming)

i tried the MAG beta more than 3 times and i gotta say its the next Haze IMO,basically a mediocre FPS shooter with a gimmick(256 multiplayer)

MW2 FTW

As a MAG Beta Vet I can honestly say that waiting 10 seconds to respawn & 5 more seconds to die & another 10 to respawn is not exactly "much more accessible to everyone" nor was it any fun for me. Maybe if you're an FPS pro who has only played Halo until now & you're looking for a new challenge MAG might give some Xbot's reason to buy a PS3 but I don't see it as a major system seller.

All FPS games are "much more accessible to everyone" because it's a genre that takes only the ability to walk about and shoot stuff. Yeah, it is great they can get 256 players in one area, but really, that's about the only accomplishment here. lol. The 360 is a console that can only do FPS games it almost seems, and then the PS3 comes up with a game called MAG that shows they can even outdo them, lol. Epic FAIL for the 360 AGAIN! XD. Even though it's going to suck along with all the other games used in same over used game genre.

Pretty much the only thing I will hate is when people go off wandering around and don't know what to do or team killing. If you stick with your people and follow instructions the experience could be alot better.

Glad to see some ppl liked the beta, because I was bored outta my mind playing that thing. R2 & K2 beta's were much more fun IMO. Unless MAG's gameplay mechanics change drastically in 2 weeks…I'll have to pass on this one. *Sad face*
