Bayonetta Art Book To Boast 500 Pieces Of Content

Working on a game like Bayonetta must've been a laugh riot. Knowing the developer's intention of providing us with an over-the-top, insanely brazen and ridiculously silly presentation, I can only imagine the brainstorming meetings.

"Okay, she needs guns, of course."

"Yeah…like…wait, I know! Attached to her ankles !"

"You're a freakin' genius. WIN."

"Health restoration in the form of…hmm…"

"LOLLIPOPS. Duh."

"Of course!"

I imagine it would've been awfully entertaining. And if you're always intrigued by behind-the-scenes info and details – and you have a bit of an artistic flair – you may be interested in picking up the art book for the game in question. Revealed over at the Platinum Games Blog , this massive book will include over 500 pieces of content; it's all the design materials they collected during the creation of Bayonetta , and it's slated to arrive within the next few months (Q1 2010). You'll get a chance to see "unreleased character, enemy, background, and weapon designs," as well as "CG illustrations and some new easter-egg illustrations."

Character designer Mari Shimazaki has conflicted feelings about this, though.

"Whenever I end up working on one of these expansive books, I always end up feeling like, 'This is sad. I have to show off all of these designs that got shot down… And they are from years ago as well.' Even though I love looking at others people’s stuff, this poses a real dilemma for me."

Aw, don't worry about it, Mari. It gives everyone a chance to examine the difficult path taken by any artist from the time of conception to the "eureka" moment when every member of the team goes, "that's it!" …or do they only need the director to have a "eureka" moment…? Maybe we should ask Kamiya.

DMC4 > bayonetta.
o and you do know once your finished the game theres a massive concept art section you can look at.
probably not as big as the one they give you for the LE but still quite impressive and you save 30 bucks.
i would not pay 70 bucks for bayonetta, let alone the 130 there asking for the limited edition.
i seriously wish i did not import it, that way i could of taken it back and got a refund.
80 bucks down the drain 🙁

If you were to play Bayonetta, you'd know why it's deserving of an art book. There is so much visual uniqueness presented in this game.

My head says no but my heart says yes!

I'm going to get Bayonetta for the PS3 tomorrow. Damn it…

JB HiFi here in Australia has it free if you trade in three games. So cheerio Dead Space, Singstar Abba (my wife will never know it's gone!) and Gran Tursimo 5 Prologue.

It's too interesting to pass up. Come on guys, I need a PS3 Bayonetta review that I can trust.
Is the PS3 version that bad or are the gamers just over-reacting?

A lot of people here are angry that Platinum Games decided to do a port job.

Honestly, the game isn't that bad. I think some of the reviewers who are tried-and-true Xbots are poo-pooing the game. The only serious problem is the constant loading screens. This game badly needed an install feature. Also, the graphics aren't as good as the 360's obviously but it's not that bad.

If they can find a way to patch this to lessen the loading times, I'll buy it in the future. I rented it and I have to admit that the game is stylish and is full of in-jokes from past games the crew from Platinum Games worked on, like Devil May Cry, Okami and Viewtiful Joe plus some Sega references. I'm just angry that Platinum Games thumbed their noses at the PS3. I'll remember that.

I've just bought it today so will see how it goes. Personally love the style and sound of this game. I like a risk!

I started on a Spectrum 48K so load times of a few seconds don't faze me. Load times of an hour. Yes that used to be bad.

Interesting to see if it annoys me now.

Swapping 11 disks to play Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on the Amstrad. Now that was invasive!

I think today we are all a bit spoilt.
We now get graphics, sound and gameplay quality that you needed to go to an Arcade to see 5 years ago. We seem to get side tracked by the little things and not focus on the big picture.

Jeez, I sound like my Dad!!!! Someone, shoot me now!
