Warhawk was one of the best early exclusives for the PlayStation 3 and remains one of the most entertaining, fulfilling online multiplayer experiences available.
Therefore, it's only natural for us to be interested in the sequel, known as Starhawk . Lead Warhawk designer Dylan Jobe left Incognito to form Lightbox Entertainment and ever since then, we've only heard snippets about Starhawk (we're not even sure if the name is confirmed), and for the most part, the project remains in the dark. But there may be more news forthcoming according to GamingVice . First of all, this game could very well be officially unveiled at E3, which would be big news in and of itself. Secondly, while everyone should expect the fairly standard online components like "Deathmatch" and "Team Deathmatch," there will also be a single-player campaign to go along with the numerous multiplayer modes. On top of which, the developers may be aiming for more of a MMO feel, presenting us with a downright massive universe – after all, the game is called "Starhawk" – and the idea of having multiple planets and star systems just begging to be explored is a damn good one. We do hope they keep the same type of gameplay format, though; we loved the flight mechanics in Warhawk …still some of the best I've seen.
Remember, a great many people didn't even have a PS3 when Warhawk came out in the summer of 2007, so this will seem very new to millions. But if we use Warhawk as a launching pad for Starhawk , we may be able to understand more about this mysterious sequel.
Id be happy with more maps for the warhawk we have now, im not to sure that id be interested in the game turning in to an MMO stile, or being in space. but who knows whats going to happen with it.

Should be awesome either way. All the advances they have made with the PS3 hardware should equal an excellent experience. PS3, paving the TRUE next gen experience all the way!!!
Warhawk was right down beautiful!
It's still the most engrossing third person online game I've ever played
It literally feels like a war is going on (this was such a big deal for me. Was really cool when it came out since there were tons of players on all the time)
Anyway, can't wait to see what Starhawk is like. Hopefully they balance out air combat a little better (the hawks dominated too much imo)
Exclusives 🙂
The space part sounds interesting. If throw in a single player campaign then I will give it a shot.
i bought warhawk but traded it in because it was kind of boring for me.
I'll try it if it has single player. The reason I din't buy Warhawk is because it was an online game only.
Unfortunately you are missing out on a great experience once you get into it. It is a beautifully produced game in all respects. But everyone to his own I guess!
Q!
"i am home"
if its online only i could not care less.
thats the one thing that really disappointed me about MAG and warhawk.
i dont buy online only games.
id like to see warhawk but in space and with really cool futuristic weapons, but than if its online only no thanks.
id love to see another fighter jet game like HAWX.
that was a decent game just lacked polish and attention to detail, and was a little to restrictive and linear.
Although you do make quite a valid argument you made roughly 15 spelling/ punctuation related mistakes.
I bid you good day.
Why not? lol thiers been four online only games this gen with a great community so.. its worth trying.
Oh no not Hawx!? Namco needs to release a new Ace Combat fast!!
Lol, hate to say it but if you don't like that it's online only, simply don't buy it, there are a ton of other games out there right now and there are quite a few people who don't mind online only 😉 especially like MAG with no online fees.
The gameplay and controls is where Warhawk really shines. I've never played a game with such a steep learning curve. Really mastering any particular aspect(Ground, Vehicle, Air) took hundreds of hours. Hopefully this isn't forgotten about for the sequel.
Ben…you are dead on about the flying mechanics in Warhawk. I haven't played another game that quite made you feel like you were actually flying except for maybe the old Flight Simulators and those were way over my head. Let's hope they keep the same feel for this one.
I was on Warhawk in August of 07 and played till February 09, it was a great game that kept you coming back. Hopefully they can pull off starhawk
Warhawk = 2008 for me (in the multiplayer department)
It was the game I wanted to play every morning
Hey Ben can you upload the videos on youtube so we can watch them on the ps3??
Most of the time i get into the web is on the ps3 so i would like to know if this is possible or not thanks.
I'll say it again… I loved Warhawk!
I would definitely be into a sequel, especially if there is a deep single player campaign with a great story then I'm sold.
I hope so. I'd rather have a single Player campaign than only a multiplayer one. I bought warhawk Greatest Hits for $20 in 2008 and still haven't gotten around to playing it.
Nothing right now is like Warhawk, the gameplay options and the huge maps just makes online battles so bloody epic.
If Starhawk goes beyond of this I'm sold
The only real problem with Warhawk is that it has a difficulty curve like running headlong into a brick wall made of tigers, every other player is already a veteran which scares off any newcomers. If Starhawk can indeed fix this then it will be looking at game of the year.
Yeah well the same goes for MW2 of any online game after about 1-2 months. You get on and everyone has reached level 70 or started to prestige.
You just gotta tough it out in the first few weeks of play.
At least Warhawk has (had?) Rookie servers, though veterans do still use them with alternate accounts.
Ahhhh… Starhawk on the Intellivision… Good memories.
On a related note, remake Colony Wars for the PS3. Psygnosis (now Studio Liverpool) was an excellent internal developer for the PS1 with many great IPs under its belt that for some reason it has never revisited (except for Wipeout) on the PS2 or PS3.
Dude! Those Colony Wars games were amazing. No loading, streaming straight from the CD, great GFX and gameplay.
They should really do another one ASAP.
I still remember when I read a part of the OPS2 magazine of a new G-Police and colony Wars were being be made for PS2, but it was probably just a rumour 🙁
I'd love to see Colony Wars on the Playstation store maybe more of Psygnosis's classics
You might be on the right track here with colony wars, because why would the Starhawk domain direct you to SCEE website, and not SCEA? As surely SCEA would be producing Starhawk if it was done by Jobe's team Lightbox.
Of course it could be nothing at all.
I never thought I could get excited over a game I know literally nothing about. The team at Incognito did such an amazing job with Warhawk so early in the PS3's life, its a shame so many people missed out on it
How can you possibly hype Warhawk and at the same time use every possible opportunity to bash MW2? Warhawk is like the poor mans COD…!
CoD isn't like a war, once you join into a match on Warhawk its a freakin WAR!! planes flying battling for domination, foot soldiers helplessly attacking a tank with 2x grenades and a machine gun till the tank gets annihilated by a mine. good times
He never bashed MW2.
Well, you got the tank, the grenades and the mines in COD too… I'm not saying warhawk is a bad game, I just find the similarities between them to be too apparent to justify a praise of one and bash the other (as is done other places on this site). Warhawk is simpler in it's design than COD, it's more like Unreal, and as such I label it "the poor mans COD".

I'll definitely be looking forward to Starhawk if it is at least half as good as Warhawk. Having a single-player game added in there is a real plus though! Count me in for a copy of the game for sure…
