Ben-DutkaFor a while now, it has been tradition that Treyarch and Infinity Ward trade off on developing titles for Activision's Call of Duty franchise. One team does it one year, the other team does it the next.
But we may see a breakdown in the chain after Treyarch puts out the new CoD entry this year. According to VG247 citing "US recruitment channels," Infinity Ward won't be creating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 . Instead, they plan to work on "something entirely new," which may not come as a surprise to those of you who follow the news. Last year, during the massive building of hype leading up to the launch of MW2, IW boss Robert Bowling specifically stated, "Right now we don't have a clue what our next game is going to be." Now, if this team steps down from the CoD franchise and Activision wants to continue to make it an annual phenomenon, they're going to need another studio to fill the void. One possibility is a currently unknown Canadian studio and another is Sledgehammer Games, led by ex-Visceral head men Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey. As we speak, Sledgehammer is looking for a multiplayer designer with "five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC."
As for the Canadian team, it could be Radical Entertainment, which gave us Prototype last year. But either way, if Infinity Ward really is moving away from the CoD franchise, that could be a tremendous blow to the series. MW2 is the most popular online multiplayer game of the generation (or it soon will be, statistically), and it was also the fastest-selling title in the history of the industry. Treyarch always does a great job, too, but to lose IW and the MW games…that'll be tough to overcome.

thank god i really think call of duty is overrated so much and i hated the game, i don't know why i bought into the hype and believed that CODMW2 could make a game, but i was so wrong , hopefully they make something that doesn't make me sad lol
i agree that it was overrated but its also a fun and addicting game.
I loved MW1, but MW2 was not nearly as good and a huge disappointment for me. I'll be happy to play a new IP from Infinity Ward.

Would be amazing to see what IW could do without Activision's foolish leader. IW created the MW formula and passed it on. Time to let loose another blockbuster franchise.
Bear in mind that the publisher usually makes a game a "blockbuster." Activision was responsible for the vast majority of Modern Warfare's success.
If IW goes and makes a new IP with someone else, don't expect the same earth-shattering response.

Yeah…um…I'm going to have to disagree with you on this on B Dukat…yeah…Medal of Honor was the standard for war-themed FPS until COD4. IW raised the bar and set the new standard in FPS. Activision only provided the marketing muscle, which is cool but the game has to deliver. To quote one Samuel L. Jackson, "Just 'cause you pour syrup on sh!t, don't make it pancakes."

After reading this article, I wasn't given the impression that IW was leaving Activision. It sounds like they just want to work on a new idea, and that the next MW would have to be handled by someone else. I'm sure IW and Activision are tight.
To be honest i rarely care who published the game, not that their job is easy or anything. To me its al about the Devs. at work. So in this Case i recognize IW and instantly COD comes to mine, or likewise with treyarch. When i hear activision all i think about is the tons of guitar hero games out there.
It's strange; I hear Activision, and for some reason, the first game to come to mind is "Spider-Man" for the PS1. That is still one of my favourite PS1 titles (and a game that REALLY needs to come out for the PS Store).

I agree with KZ2 being the better game. But maybe its because they've had so much success with that franchise they want to move forward.
In their eyes they succeeded and thats what devs. set out to do. The community has responded, and they move on.
I'm expecting a thumbs down on this, but I didn't really care for Killzone 2. The graphics and sound were AMAZING, but I thought the gameplay was just like any other shooter. Nothing special in that department.
you definitely missed what made killzone 2 stand out. i suggest you play some more and pay a little more attention.

Now it makes sense why Activision hired another team to do COD games! I believe that story was reported on this site like a month ago.
im just waitng for MOH that has been my number ONE FPS hands down they will make a kick-ass game you watch.

The sad thing is, IW wanted to make MW2 as a FPS of its own entity. It wasn't meant to be a part of the CoD franchise. It was Activision that threw CoD at the front of the title.
If IW is sticking around at Activision and are hoping to make a new IP there, I hope Activision leaves it alone. I don't want to see IW, for example, make a racing game and Activision goes and entitles it, "Call of Duty: Muscle Car Wars"… or some crap like that.

I can't see them making anything but more sixtydollar exspansion packs for COD but, onward and upward I hope. Come to think of it I don't think I've played anything but COD from IW what other titles have they made.
Wait I just had a thought and quote me on this one but there next game will be TPS, why else would Nautghy Dog thank them in their credits to the best game of the year UC2. Plus I think ND helped IW with the third person mechanics they kind of have the same default camera angle. But then again I'm Gary Busey and who knows what the *uck I'm talking about.

i loved those games, especially since the last 2 had co-op, playing them with my next door neighbor for hours on end best fun ive had playing a game.

i have more fun playing PS1 classics than i do playing ps3 games.

MW2 might be overated but it was still fun, plus i liked the 'blocbuster' type ending, i really didin't start to enjoy until the last few missions but i love the scenarios they put you in, its farfetched but fun. I mean the ending *spoiler warning*…possibly… but yeah the last sentence, all i have to say is "Da! I know a Place"

are you serious? modern warfare 2, is the greatest game lol, the campaign kinda sucked, but multiplayer is so much fun… A lot of you don't believe me, but honestly I think that Modern Warfare is a great game…
Activision Made COD 4 amd 5 better then Infinity Ward did on COD 6. Then Infinity Ward came in on this series and f***ed some on the series up like no zombies in COD 6 WTF. Infinity Ward can suck my ballz
