BioWare and EA managed to release Dragon Age: Origins for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the same day, but PS3 owners won't get the same simultaneous treatment for the upcoming DLC.
The DLC package in question is entitled "Return to Ostagar" and it's bound to be a must-download for fans of the epic RPG. We've known for a while this was coming but we only had a vague "2010" estimate; now, according to Joystiq , the expansion will land on the Xbox 360 and PC on January 5. Unfortunately, it won't be available on the PlayStation Network until "later in January," but at least we know it's coming. For $5, we'll receive "the promise of the mighty arms and armor of the once great King Cailan," who also has a "top-secret political agenda." Origins is already a very long game – especially in this day and age – but for role-playing aficionados, it feels just about right, doesn't it? And if you've already completed it, this expansion will give you a good excuse to return to the battlefield. We probably shouldn't complain about the delay for the PS3 DLC but at the same time, we're forced to wonder…why? It would make more sense if they hadn't released the game simultaneously on multiple platforms, but they did , so…?
Well, anyway, I would expect several more hours (at least) of play time from this expansion and that should be worth the five bucks.
Related Game(s): Dragon Age: Origins
another M$/PC timed exclusive?
Probably just a different degree of success passing QA…otherwise, it would be a longer gap.

ouch, just when you think someone has a sense of humor the thumbs down begin. I say bring'em on
I love me every thumbsdown I get!
You know, as much as I love DA:O, I don't think I'm gonna get this DLC. This game has really made me forget that I had other games for a while. I've reached the 70 hours mark and I've yet to complete the game. I wanna try out my other games again… getting monopolized on by a game doesn't feel that good.
This already has to be one of the longest games currently on the PS3, and as it's one of the few actually good RPG games for the PS3 in this genre, nice to hear it's gonna get a bit longer. I held off on buying it for PS3 due to the poor scores in graphics and framerate and while i'd admit the framerate is pretty bad at times which is inexcusable at this point in time for the PS3 i thought the graphics were actually good in some places thus far and the story and game mechanics are good enough that one will generally overlook the crappy framerate in lieu of actually playing a Bioware Fantasy/RPG on their PS3 (which some of us have been awaiting forever). I don't regret the purchase and it's the first game I've not sold back to Gamecrock in after about a month for quite awhile. Now that I saw it's on their $20 trade-in list I know it's hot and am definitely keeping it.
Only $5? That's not bad. It's too bad DAO too a back seat to AC2 because I was having a ton of fun with that.
you do know its only a hour long right?
Eh. Like I said a couple posts back. Let them take their time and make it right. Maybe I'm finally getting patient in my old age.
yea the dlc is very cheap apparently for Dragon Age: Origins. I forget the name of the dlc tat was released with the game you had to buy but it was only $7 dollars. then the dlc where you get the character that was pricey but atleast free when you bought the game at release!
Anyways i feel it might be short as was the character dlc so i might wait to hear about it first! But either way Dragon Age, is an awesome game, and ive yet to beat it, so…
Since I bought a lightly used copy I didn't get that freebie, I went to buy it and holy crap its like 15 bucks or something, screw that.
yeah and you know what its cool because i never use him lol. But besides that the quest only takes about 45 min at the most to retrieve him and thats it. So honestly its not worth the buy, for free yeah ill take it, bt otherwise your not missing much!
he has more quests if you use him about 3 hours in all
and he has funny lines
the rest of the DLC thou are 1 hour long
"then the dlc where you get the character that was pricey but atleast free when you bought the game at release!"
Wrong there. It's now when you buy a new copy that it comes along for free.
jus bought ac2 and dao. I like them both a lot i just really dont like the combat in DAO. Between AC2 Demons Souls and DAO theres a big combat difference between the 3 ha
Orly? 😮
I really need to pick this game up. I opted for Boderlands instead and am not really getting into it as much as I thought. DAO seems more my style!!!
EB
No worries here. I have yet to complete the game, and still have plenty of games to play.
Day one purchase though.
I just want to know when the GOTY edition with all the DLC on disc will come, because that's likely when I'll buy the game.
I made the mistake of getting the standard edition of Oblivion and am still waiting to find The Shivering Isles for a decent price. Not again.
Same I'm not big on DLC so I'm definitely waiting on something like that
They've promised to release DLC for the game over two years, so you'll be waiting some time then.
True. But I've got Fallout 3 and all those JRPGs coming next year, so I can wait.
I almost did buy it at $40, but I decided to wait and see.
Also, based on the DLC for Mass Effect, I take their promises with a grain of salt.

I beat it in about a month and it was sweetness, still plenty of replayability left, but I doubt I'll get this DLC. I'm against most DLC and haven't gotten any of the other stuff so, meh it might be better put into another game since DA:O is already long and fun. What I would like is a patch to fix the frame rate. I would not have minded if they delayed the release to fix that.
hmm, hopefully this isn't the last time Bioware releases something to Microsoft hardware before it releases on the PS3 *cough* Mass Effect *cough*.
just have to ask.
whats the point?
is anyone seriously going to even think of buying this?
i mean, theres not enough time to play all the games i want in February as it is let alone considering DLC to this years games.
same goes for AC2, im really excited and am interested to play the DLC but i sincerely doubt i will because theres other full games i want to play in feb.
i hope developers know something i dont, because its looking like to me jan, feb, march, april, may are going to be chock full than were going to be bored stiffness till September.
i really dont see the point in releasing 15 games in one month than having 2 months of nothing.
why not take those 15 out of the one month and spread them across the 3.
common sense no?
I haven't tried this game but when it was on sale for 39.99CDN i picked it up my hubby is totally into it and is really excited for this… from what I've seen I'm actually impressed with it.
I can't wait for the new DLC! Luckily I own the PC version.
Hopefully it's being delayed to show the PS3 some love, with some exclusive bonus material just for us.
there just not use to makeing PS3 games
on there web forms they were giveing updates on the DLC
PC one has been done Xbox was holding on MS ok
PS3 they are still working on it
what gets me thou is $5 for a hour?!?!
@oldmike:
You're bitching about $5? Seriously? A pizza will cost you more, and those can be eaten in half the time. Just avoid eating crap food for a week and you're set.
The pizza will keep you from dying. I don't think the DLC will do the same.
$5 for an hour of entertainment is a legitimate gripe. It's not outrageous, but it's more than I'm usually willing to pay.

It's not just about the amount of play time however. As you can play any of the DLCs after Loithering it is the experience and equipment you get from these DLCs that you can use throughout the entire game. Considering people will pay a couple of bucks for just a LBP planet skin I think this is certainly worthwhile.
"Well, anyway, I would expect several more hours (at least) of play time from this expansion and that should be worth the five bucks."
Warden's Keep took me 30 minutes, and that one cost $7. I wouldn't mind this one lasting longer, but considering the shortness of the two DLC released so far…
well that DLC was free anywayz…. 5 bucks isnt so bad if its several hours worth. I was upset that upon beating the game you can only go back to the DLC levels see i skipped alot of side missions and told myself "i will just go back after I complete the story" well that didnt happen so i started my elf and im going to complete all missions this time lol I missed alot of cool secret weapons which im just finding.
