The title isn't a rhetorical question. I'm not going to embark upon a quest to prove that Bayonetta isn't worthy of the praise it has received thus far. I'm actually asking the question: what is going on here?
Being a big fan of action games like God of War , Devil May Cry and to a lesser extent, Ninja Gaiden , I have been intrigued by Bayonetta ever since it first arrived on the journalist's radar. I've watched Platinum Games mold this bad boy into something I'd definitely wish to play; I love the cocky heroine and the campy humor, and I've always grinned at the tongue-in-cheek presentation of an impossibly gifted character who just so happens to boast the traits of a stripper. Really, so much of this game appeals to me and I fully intend on purchasing and playing. However, that being said, and after having played the demo, I'm a little confused about these perfect or near-perfect scores it has been awarded. I've seen an A/A+ from 1Up, a 9.5 from IGN (for the Xbox 360 version; the PS3 version only got a 8.2; ouch), and a perfect 100 out of 100 from Edge. …not like I'd trust the latter source, anyway, but the point is that Bayonetta can apparently do no wrong in a critic's eyes. But… why ?
I've read the reviews in question. I get it. But is it really worth this level of praise? I mean, we're talking Uncharted 2 -like scores here and that's a little off-putting. Maybe it's because I played the obviously inferior PS3 demo, or maybe it's just because I get confused when certain reviewers complain about one game not being "innovative," then point to another game that simply does age-old mechanics better than anyone else and say, "now that's awesome." Besides the obscene number of skills Bayonetta has at her disposal, I don't see anything remotely innovative or evolutionary about the game but I may change my mind when I have the final product in my hands. The graphics were decent but nothing to get too excited about and that sadistically hard gameplay is smooth, but I did notice some camera lagging in that demo. I have a tough time believing such an issue is so radically different in the 360 version but then again, maybe it is. I'll be getting that version, anyway.
But with the 360 version averaging 93% right now at GameRankings, we automatically have to put Bayonetta among the best of the best. I suppose my question is: does it belong there?

The Xbox demo was definitely much better and it actually was a different demo for the most part. However, I think the ps3 version will be a safe purchase because the devs said they will fix it before the NA release. Also, If I'm not wrong, I think what most people love about the game is the constant state of adrenaline without being overwhelmed.
sex sells=case and point this game, critics gave it high scores because it gives them a hard on while playing =D
