No More Hockey Titles For 2K Sports?

Unfortunately, NHL 2K10 didn't quite live up to expectations this year, which may have caused Take-Two to consider pulling the plug on the franchise.

According to Take-Two's recent Q4 fiscal report , a new iteration in the long-running NHL 2K franchise was nowhere to be found, leading to widespread speculation that 2K may be nixing the series. This would leave EA's NHL franchise as the only real option for hockey aficionados, who likely chose NHL 10 this year, anyway. 2K Sports' Bryan Lam told Kotaku that they're "currently in the process of evaluating our sports portfolio and have not announced any new NHL titles at this time." However, just in case you're concerned about their other established sports franchises, new installments for both MLB 2K and NBA 2K were included in the report. Prior to this, 2K had scratched the College Hoops series, which labored for a while until the final entry hit store shelves a few years ago. The question is, despite the lagging on the part of NHL 2K this year, are hockey fans okay with EA owning the sport in the same way they own football? Recent Madden games have really been fantastic, of course, but perhaps that's not the point…it's always good to have choices, after all.

We'll let you know what 2K decides to do. It probably doesn't help that hockey's popularity has taken a definite hit in recent years.

I thought they said this was all great at the VGAs? Or was that something else?

as far as i'm concerned until someone can top ea's nhl series they deserve the crown. crappy choices wouldnt matter to me. not that nhl 2k10 is bad, i just think nhl 10 has a better overall experience. and looks better imo.

Line you know I usually agree on most points with you, but don't you ever say screw hockey again. It's better than your stupid soccer or rugby. Atleast hockey is pure action and a fight doesn't get you ejected from the game cause the poor little players might get hurt. Hochey is life all else is filler. Now as for 2K Sports I say good riddance to the NHL2K franchise.

NHL 10 is great and this is one of the series EA has done right for a few years now. I used to like the 2K Sports versions, but they just couldn't make enough improvements to compete with EA's baby. I'd like to see other hockey titles out there but I don't really see it happening right now. Would like to see a remake of Blades of Steel made too. I still play the arcade version on my PC from time to time.

EA has and probably always will own the hockey market. I prefer 2k for basketball, though EA is catching up in that game as well. NHL 10 is a great game.

As long as NBA 2K stays i'm fine though the Jaggies for the PS3 versions are an eyesore and the reason I don't pay full price for them. Well that and the yearly releases, no jordan in the Legends and no custom music.

I've been trying to get nba 2k10 since it came out but the lack of custom music is what's stopping me from paying close to full price.
Their soundtrack isn't even that horrible but wtf, it's like less than a dozen songs.
I'm hoping next year is finally the year that 2K stops screwing the ps3 over in this front.
It should be a standard feature in any game but the fact that I'm still waiting on it for a SPORTS game and not even all racers have it past ridiculous a long time ago.
And anyone who knows me knows I'm Canadian in every way except I find hockey to be a boring sport. If I want fights, I'll watch UFC or something, if I want ice, I'll step outside, if I want to wait for half an hour for something to happen, I'll watch golf.
PS jk, I'd never watch golf.
